Does Nick Barnett become a great play this week? (1 Viewer)

In my tackle heavy league, Norton's projections have him at LB1....I'm praying he's right because I need every point I can get this week against a tough opponent.

I have my doubts, though, with the way he's been performing, but then again he's been great in the past and if anyone is due for a big game, its Barnett.

I like him this week and have him active. If he doesn't produce this week, I will be concerned.
Agree 100%. Barnett suffered an elbow injury week 3 against the Cowboys and his tackling was a bit off the rest of that game and even a bit last week. He should be back to normal (or close to it) this week and making plays all over the field. I'd be very surprised if he doesn't get 6+ tackles against Atlanta plus a decent chance at a big play.
Poppinga, Brady GBP LB... he had 8 solos last week, was it a one week wonder?
He primarily plays on running downs. If you believe that a certain offense will run the ball on a given week against the Packers he could be a decent bye week fill-in in larger leagues. However, he doesn't play as much when the Packers are ahead because Brandon Chillar tends to get that work in obvious passing situations. Also, I don't believe Poppinga will see a significant increase in snaps if Hawk is out if that is playing a role in your thinking.Just my 2 cents.

What is the consensus on Barnett now that he managed just 4 solo tackles and 1 assist against the Falcons? I did not see the game , so I only have the stat line for reference.

I'm not starting again him until I see at least one great game. He's been killing me. Problem is, I have no one else who is much better.

Same as last week. I don't like the fact that he's struggled at times behind a suspect DL and when he has a couple of nagging injuries. It's certainly not good that he's had two weeks of below LB1 expected production against solid matchups. He's not a LB1 at this point, but still belongs in lineups of those who start two or more each week.

Diles is avaliable in my Dynasty league. Should I drop Barnett for Diles? I have other coverage for Barnett, I'm just not sure who has the bigger upside at this point. Watcha think?

Edit to add: S. Cooper is avaliable too

I refuse to drop or bench Barnett unless he notches two solos or less for two weeks straight, which he has not done. In week 1 he had 8 solos, and for the last three weeks he's had 4 each game. No big plays, but they could come - maybe against SEA this week.

On my team I can afford to have patience because I also have Willis, Beason, Briggs and D. Johnson. If Barnett is supposed to be your LB1, I would still keep him in for the next two weeks (SEA, IND) and then re-evaluate at the bye week (8).

I just packaged him in a trade with Eddie Royal and his sprained ankle to get Ronnie "bad man" Brown... hope this wildcat thing never ends.

Hmm I also own Royal, wonder if I could pull that off.

I already have good RBs though in Addai, Slaton and Willie Parker.

I say go for it... I wanted to get some kind of value for barnett before he had 0

So what are other Barnett owners in Dynasty leagues doing?
Holding and hoping! Edit to add: actually looking to add some potential for next year probably dropping nick and witherspoon

So I finally sat him for Beason and Cooper this week.

Another sub-par perfomance. He is averaging 4.3 solos & 1 asst per game without a single peripheral stat. Unreal the collapse of a solid contributor from last season to almost nothing this year. He is the IDP equivalent of Braylon Edwards (and I own them both in the same league!!!)

In dynasty I'm going to sit on him simply because of his role as a MLB and see how the rest of the year goes. But I just don't get how he can only get to a ball carrier 5 times a game despite being in the middle of the field for essentially every defensive snap.

I am a member of that world as well. I'm in a Keep 4 offense & defense league, and Barnett is one of several guys who is killing me this year. I watched the Packer game yesterday as I live in Seattle so that was the Fox game. Barnett doesn't shed blocks very well at all. Poppinga seems to be the most active LB on running plays, I guess teams are focusing more on blocking Hawk and Barnett. I don't think I can release Barnettyet , but we don't get the luxury of keeping many guys on the bench so it may get to that point. Some of my other wonderful keepers were Braylon Edwards, Ryan Grant, and Carson Palmer - what a joyous season it has been..

As a Packers fan, I would say that the biggest reason for Barnett's drop in production this year is the poor play of the line in front of him. Barnett excels at running to the ball and making plays when the line keeps him clean, but is not particularly good at shedding blocks. The Packers D line is missing Corey Williams and Cullen Jenkins from last year and has not played nearly as well, resulting in Barnett have a less clear path to the ball carrier. Unfortunately there is little indication that will change unless Harrell coming off PUP finally lives up to his first round pick status. More likely he will be hurt again in the near future.

As a Barnett owner I keep plugging him in as my 4th LB and hoping for the best. So far he has definitely been a disappointment.

I think the trading of Corey Williams was a much bigger mistake by TT than the trading of Favre. They were counting on Harrell to step up and take his place, but so far Harrell has proven that he can not be counted on to stay healthy. Hopefully that changes soon.

Thanks for the contextual info. Helps clear up what might be happening, wonder if there's hope for the future?

I traded Barnett because of his next two weeks (IND, bye) and because he's a name player who has been consistent at the very least - I was able to get something for him (WR Berrian). After the bye he gets two good matchups @ TEN and @ MIN that should improve his numbers, but the lack of big plays is disturbing.

I couldn't take it any longer. I dropped Barnett and picked up S. Cooper in our Dynasty league. Even though it's a Dynasty format and I've had Barnett for years, I'm in first place and want to win it all THIS year.

:thumbup:We often noted that the improved DT play last season was a big help to Barnett in the Jim Bates like scheme in Green Bay. The reverse is also true. It didn't hurt Barnett as much earlier in the decade, but the presence of Hawk and the physical safeties cut down on his pursuit tackles well down the field.
