Dolphins say they are out of the Trent Green talks (1 Viewer)

The Chiefs really want a 2nd?

The only thing I can think is that they are prepared to keep Green and give him a shot at the starting gig next year.

Because they can't be serious about trading him if that is their demands.

The Dolphins can get David Carr much cheaper than Trent Green. He's got many more years ahead of him too.

The Chiefs are talking tough. They realize that they have time before the NFL draft, so they can try to play "chicken" with the Dolphins.

If the Chiefs are serious about trading (or cutting Green), then they will get what they can. Probably trying to get the Dolphins to pony up a 4th or 5th rounder.

That's the part making a 2nd rounder just silly. Green is going to be 37yo this season. It's pretty funny they'd even ask a 2nd rounder for one year of Green before he retires(or should).

You start high in ANY negotiation.....any GM/Salesman worth his salt does it.If Carl Peterson would have accepted a 7th just because that is what MIA offered then I would have been pissed as a KC fan.It is all a negotiating ploy.....CP knows Trent is not worth a 2nd.I bet he goes for a 4th or 5th to MIA or DET

If that is the Chiefs true asking price, then they don't want to trade him. Basically, they are saying...no you can't have him. :lmao:

Well, yeah, you start high. Then there is too high.

I could certainly see a scenario where the Chiefs ask for a 2nd, and the Fins kind of look at each other, and say, "man, we aren't even in the same ballpark. Get Carr on the phone."

I don't think the Chiefs really want to keep Green. Atleast that's the feeling I get from the locals around here.

They should be glad someone is offering something since if they don't trade him they will have to eat $10 million due to his contract.

If they trade him that'll give the Chiefs cap room to "play" some more.

I'll laugh my ### off if this backfires on them.

If the Dolphins would have given up a 2nd round draft pick for Green I would have renounced my Dolphinness
That is a serious threat, giving up your 'Dolphinness'. Is that having the big fin on your back removed? What does giving up your 'Dolphinness' actually entail?

If the Dolphins would have given up a 2nd round draft pick for Green I would have renounced my Dolphinness
I'm surprised you still have "Dolphinness" after the Eagles treated you like a $2 whore in the Feely trade.

ENOUGH already !!!

How many more years are the Dolphins going to take other teams' castoffs and retreads?

When was the last time they drafed a QB? Spend a 1st day pick on a QB and groom him for the future. CUT CPEPP. Let other teams give up draft picks for Carr & Green.

When life hands you lemons . . .

START Cleo Lemon !!!

and then draft a QB on the first day.

So sick of other teams garbage.

There's high and there's out of the world high. Offers like that deserve a complete cutoff in talks just on principle alone. Maybe the next time the Chiefs won't be so greedy.

They can get Ryan Leaf for even cheaper too.
Yeah but he doesn't posess Carr's 'Teflon Don' image of deflecting his awful play towards everyone else.
Would have loved to see Favre play behind that sweese cheese line and see how many League MVP's he would have racked up.Can you say zero? It's a team game and your only has good as those around you in Football. Carr until the last 2 years ( when Andre Johnson came into town) has had nothing to work with. Nothing. And he still had horrific protection.

They did draft Huard from that list of infamy, but when Wannstadt took over he brought in Fiedler to take over for Marino. That might have been a mistake.

How is Trent Green even worth a 5th. The guy is OLD. He's got one or two seasons left tops before you see the massive decline in skills. We may have already seen the massive decline in skills and not even know it. Huard looked much better than Green last year.

DOlphins want to give a 7th, KC wants a 2. Dolphins will now approach carr.
Either a :goodposting: is needed, or your title is misleading.

It was in the miami herald today. I read it in the b&m paper, and I am not your link monkey.
Now, you're getting there. Some sort of indication where your statements are coming from are customary.thanks for the 2nd effort, lancelot link...

Green's Price Tag Too Much For Miami

BY ARMANDO SALGUERO AND JEFF DARLINGTON

asalguero@MiamiHerald.com

PHOENIX -- The Kansas City Chiefs are asking a second-round pick plus another undetermined pick as compensation for Trent Green and that is the reason the Dolphins have not acquired the veteran quarterback.

It is also the reason the Dolphins continue to discuss acquiring free agent quarterback David Carr, who could be signed without draft choice compensation.

Several NFL general managers and NFL club personnel confirmed Kansas City's terms Sunday. The Dolphins have offered a seventh-round pick for Green.

''Trent is a Pro Bowl quarterback, he's thrown for 30,000 yards, he's a quality individual,'' Chiefs president Carl Peterson said. ``He's worth more than a seventh-round pick.''

Dolphins general manager Randy Mueller was scheduled to arrive in town late in the evening and will spend part of the next few days trying to work out a deal for a new quarterback. Peterson said he would speak with Mueller when he arrives.

It is unclear what the addition of a starting-caliber quarterback would mean to Daunte Culpepper's status with the team.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Dolphins reach for Kevin Kolb in the second round.U of H had their Pro-day on Friday and Kolb though not spectacular lived up to expectations. Rumor was that Kolb missed the morning weigh in because he was breakfasting with Dolphin's coaches.I read the story on Saturday but couldn't find the link today...may not mean anything but I am trying to read betwee nthe lines. As a U of H alum this possibility excites me.Kolb has some nice tools and some decent potential, most pre-draft rankings have him as the 3 to 5 QB in the draft.

I read that as well. I read it on NFLdraftscout.com. Th article was more about Jackie Battle.Wait, here we go:

Relevant portion:

Kolb, who participated in the Senior Bowl and worked out at the combine, had his workout Friday orchestrated by Jerry Rhome. Rhome has been tutoring Kolb and preparing him for the draft.

"On a scale of one to 10, I'd give Kevin a nine," Rhome said. "When he missed a throw, he came back even stronger.

"I really like this kid. He's worked very hard to get to this point. I'm excited to see where he's going to be drafted."

Kolb and his teammates worked out in front of representatives of every team as well as family members, friends, media and a lot of fans.

"It was just like a game in that I came out a little juiced up, I was a little off with some of my throws early, but then I got into a rhythm and made the throws I needed to," Kolb said. "I'm very happy with what I did today. I wanted to show my arm strength. I wanted to take something off my throws. I was happy with my touch. I wasn't perfect, of course, but overall, I'm really happy.

"And I'm really happy with what my guys did, too. This was an opportunity for us to showcase what we could do — why we were conference champions. I want to thank coach (Art) Briles and my teammates for helping me get to this point. I'm very grateful. I couldn't have done it without them."

The scouts weren't happy that Kolb missed the weigh-in because he was having breakfast with a Dolphins coach. New England and Cleveland also have shown interest in Kolb, who has visits the first week of April lined up with Baltimore and Philadelphia.

"I haven't changed my opinion of him; I think he's going in the second round," Brocato said. "He threw the ball well today, but I thought he was up and down on his accuracy when he rolled out. He really threw the deep ball well."

That theory all fell apart this past year when he was given everything needed and he still failed miserably. WR's - checkRunning game - check

Kubiak (who turned around Plummer) - check

O-line - check no problems running the ball with fat slow Ron Dayne and co.

Favre would be completing passes where Carr stared down the receivers until he was sacked (shown on NFL Network). According to ESPN Analyst KC Joyner of ESPN who studied the film on Carr, said that at least 1/3 of all the sacks Carr took, he was to blame. Those are just the ones like the above example where it's blatantly obvious he has no clue what he's doing.

Why do you think they finally gave up on him. They knew there was nothing left to try that could make the guy a winner.

The best two were Kramer and Miller for a year or so apiece.

Amen to that. I don't see how adding yet a third QB with major questions and baggage helps your football team. The fact that I hear rumblings of "competing for a SB" come out of Miami gives me douchechills. You've actually got some picks this year, use them on the best players available, see what CPep/Lemon do this year, and then go from there. What good does giving up a 4th rounder for Trent Green to be a little less mediocre (if he stays healthy) than the guy's you've already got do?

Looks like someone agreed with me: Yahoo Mock Draft 2nd Round - 28. Miami: Houston QB Kevin Kolb

He should retire now. That concussion basically ended his effectiveness.
His noodle arm effected his effectiveness.

Bingo... When I get offers like that in FF I just decline and consider the talks over.

Green(and his 4k yard avg per season) is a dream come true for a team that needs to plug in a QB to make a playoff run because some other QB got hurt and all hopes rested upon him.

At 37 that's probably the only way he could fetch that 2nd IMO. That will take patience on the Chiefs part and "hope" for an inevitable QB injury to actually be on a top team.

As a backup he's solid IMO but a backup QB shouldn't fetch too much in trade. As a planned starter for a team getting over the hump, he's a bandaid.

Chiefs either gotta be patient or ask for less. Now, he's not worth a 2nd IMO.

Example-either Manning getting hurt=season over for that team

the possibility of the story is there.........GOOGLE is your friend.really don't like people like this....do your own research.
I don't need anyone to do research for me.My point is this: if you're going to start a topic with a title that's a statement, either say it's your opinion, or share the source.Much of this board is sharing of information, and debating it. The original OP stated later that he read it in the local Miami newspaper. That's all the additional information that was needed, really.Asking for that isn't asking someone to research for you, it's pretty basic etiquette here IMO. Id

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that Trent Green is expected to be acquired by the Dolphins this week.

Miami is expected to send a second-day draft pick for the veteran, who would become the immediate favorite to start. Daunte Culpepper would then be expected to be released, although we wonder if his injury will make that more complicated.

I think this is a mistake for the Dolphins. Either you go with Cleo Lemon or you go with a younger guy you draft pickup or trade for. Green is not a good idea at all. If they give up a 5th round pick and he costs barely anything that is somewhat OK, but unless Culpepper can never run again, I would rather go with him and Lemon than Green and Lemon.

With Green at QB, they're practically guaranteed a play-off birth (if he stays healthy).
