Dolphins WR Brandon Marshall (1 Viewer)

MVP
Fellow Shark Pool FBG,

I was having a debate today with another member in our league about Brandon Marshall. It was partially driven by this article:

Data Points: Marshall trending downward

There are 21 days until the 2011 NFL season kicks off — and 21 is also the NFL single-game record for receptions. Brandon Marshall, then with the Broncos, set the mark in Week 14 of the 2009 season. He broke the previous record of 20, which had been set by Terrell Owens during the 2000 season in a game in which Steve Mariucci‘s 49ers were celebrating Jerry Rice Day.

Marshall also has an 18-catch game on his resume from the 2008 season. But since his 21-catch performance, Marshall’s production has tailed off dramatically. In fact, in 17 games since the record was set, Marshall is averaging just more than six receptions per game.
The article and chart attempt to show that he is in decline, but I started to wonder if he isn't moving into a buy-low type of player now that his stock is taking a beating.Yes, he plays for the Dolphins and Henne is the current incumbent QB. Yes, Marshall came out and let the world know that he has "borderline personality disorder". Yes, he has a rap sheet longer then his arm. All of these things are making his stock take a beating, but when does he cross over into value territory?

I was especially struck by the line above stating "but since his 21-catch performance, Marshall’s production has tailed off dramatically. In fact, in 17 games since the record was set, Marshall is averaging just more than six receptions per game."

Only "just more than six receptions a game?" For a 16 game season, that would be 96+ catches. I would be very happy with that for one of my FF WRs

From his wikipedia page:

Marshall is known for his ability to break and dodge tackles.[6] He led all NFL wide receivers in yards after first contact for the 2007 NFL season.[5] Regarding Marshall's breakaway ability, Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Brandon Flowers said, "Brandon Marshall is a defensive lineman playing wide receiver. He wants to inflict punishment on you. He wants you to try to tackle him so he can shove you off of him and get more yards."[6] Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha said Marshall is "the toughest guy to bring down, one-on-one."[7]
and:
Records and milestones

[*]Most catches in an NFL game (21).[8]

[*]Third-most catches in an NFL game (18).[34]

[*]Most receptions spanning five games in NFL history (55).[5]

[*]Only player in NFL history to have at least 10 receptions in four out of five games.[5][35]

[*]First player since 1960 to record eight career games of at least 10 receptions in his first four seasons.[49]

[*]One of only five players in NFL history (first Broncos player) to catch at least 100 passes in three straight seasons.[9]

[*]Ninth player in NFL history (second Broncos player) to have at least 100 catches in back-to-back seasons (2007 and 2008).[42]

[*]Caught 102 passes in 2007 (second-career NFL season), becoming only the third second-year player in NFL history to have at least 100 receptions in a season.[22]

If I didn't already own him, I would absolutely target him in dynasty leagues, especially PPR, at his current value.

He is about 5 TDs away from being top 10... Not out of the question when he only had 3 last season. If Davone Bess can catch 5, Marshall can catch 8.

He can be had as a WR2 in redrafts in the 3rd round of 12 team ppr drafts.

YOu would take him over the likes of:

Bowe

Welker

Desean Jackson

Mike WIlliams

Not a bad risk but at this point with his QB situation (I am a huge Dolphin fan) I would take Bowe and Welker over him as well as Desean Jackson...no hesitation. He does come with a ton of risk for a 3rd rounder.

His current ADP is around WR #15, so it seems to me that he is around fair market value at that spot with the risks factored in. If he was to slip in any of my leagues dramatically below this based on the negative buzz surrounding him, then he becomes a "buy low" guy. One of my leagues is fairly reactionary, so I may be able to get him if he drops.

I am loaded at WR in my ten team dynasty, so could afford to move him, and got totally shot down whenever I included Marshall in a trade offer. Everybody saw no upside and too much risk.

Been trying to trade for him in my dynasty, his owner treats him with more value than i do. :dunno:
I understand the guy. I own him all of my dynasty leagues. Thanks to Bloom, I snagged him in the third round of all of my rookie drafts. He's been a fantastic value since that time. Everyone who tries to trade for him seems to think they are doing me a favor offering to take him off my hands. But as far as I'm concerned, I'll take the highs with the lows and keep running him out there instead of giving him up for a low ball offer.

It's a buyer's market for Marshall. You're not likely to get value if you trade him away right now. Hold on for at least a few games. He's one of the most underrated players in fantasy right now.

He fell in our draft last night and got him at the turn at 5.12/6.1. The suck of Henne and his drama scared people away.
