Donald Brown on fire first game (1 Viewer)

I'm watching the late night replay of Indy vs. Minnesota. Brown came in middle of first half (Addai started). He looked great from the first time he got the ball. His second carry was a 30 yard scamper. I never got to watch this guy in college (they don't show a lot of UConn on the west coast) but he looks like the real deal! Could be a very impactful player this year.

I liked what I saw from Brown, but Addai looked good as well(much quicker and decisive than a year ago) actually I was impressed with Indy's run blocking. They seemed to be much better than a year ago. On the flip side, the pass blocking was beyond awful, a blocking sled would have put up more resistance.

My first impression is that Indy will have a better balance than they did last year maybe similar to 07'. I'm still thinking it'll be Addai 60% and Brown 40%, but if Addai goes down, Brown could take off.

Drafting someone to take your job can be a great motivator - like DeAngelo Williams and Jonathon Stewart.

AS a UCONN season ticket holder who has seen every Donald Brown game, and who breaks down every UCONN game on tv, I can tell you, he is the real deal and will be a great NFL back. Great power in the lower body, very tough to bring down. I know he is projected to split time with Addai, but he can also be a workhorse if given the opportunity. UCONN had quite possibly the worst quarterback play in the nation last year, so defenses were stacking the box against Brown, and he still shredded them. Great player.

 Another UCONN season ticket holder here - this kid has a very bright future. People underestimate his power and agility. He's fitness nut too, so he runs hard all game long.

i'm impressed

i think you'll probably have to overpay a little right now for Brown, assuming it stays a full-blown committee with Addai. but the potential upside there if Addai got hurt is really what you're after

I understand the kid can run but it will be a long time before a promo ad for a MNF game that involves the Colts does not start, <announcer guy voice> "This Monday night, Peyton Manning and the Colts travel to..." </Announcer guy voice>

I know Addai can pass block. How was Brown's pass blocking. I won't get the replay till 9:00 pm tomorrow. So how did he pick up the blitz? If he can't pass block he won't see the field. Pass blocking will get him on the field in which I expect he will do well once he gets there but he has to keep Manning upright before he will get a chance to chew up some LB's.

Brown is a little overdrafted as a FF player. I don't worry too much about proposed RBBC situations because it's usually just coach-speak, but this one is for real, IMO. They're going to kill each other's value for the most part (him & Addai).

Another reason I tend to be down on Brown is his power is vastly overrated at this level. No doubt he has some good qualities, but in no way, shape, or form do I ever expect Brown to be a bellcow. I believe he'll have to be in a true RBBC to be real effective, which is not what FF owners want to see.

The past 3 years the Colts running game has averaged 290 pts combined between their #1 and #2 RBs, the average output of the RB positions where Addai and Brown were being take last week was 274 pts combined.

He was only in one pass situation - and he picked up the rusher.

I believe this is going to be a TRUE RBBC, thus, the problem. I prefer other RBs at Addai & Brown's ADP. I know it's a good offense, but I'd much rather have the upside of somebody who's likely to get the vast majority of touches. Just not enough potential with those two within their roles.

took this from another thread, looking for some more input:

Before/during/after the NFL draft, I had the impression that Brown was a high-character, highly-motivated, intelligent, hard-working RB with average skills. However i think i had the wrong impression because lately i've read this guy is MORE athletically gifted than Addai at basically everything... running between the tackles, goal-line, catching the ball, and speed. Any homers out there know much about this?

I drafted this guy in a dynasty startup and have a very good feeling about him. He's a flex starter even with Addai ahead of him, and will be a top 10 RB if he starts and gets 70% of workload, which he could get as soon as midseason. Very high on him in dynasty and I would take him as my 3rd RB in redraft.

Addai's better at pass-blocking and pass-catching right now. I want to see more of Brown to comment on the rest - but I liked his running in his pre-season debut.
