Do you think Brown could be LT, the 2009 version?

Thinking about Donald Brown (circa 2009) and LaDainian Tomlinson (circa 2001), are their situations similar enough that we could be seeing the second coming of Tomlinson?

I remember when it was this time of year in 2001, the talk was between Tomlinson and Michael Bennett.

We all know how it turned out. But it wasn't a slam-dunk that Tomlinson was going to turn out the way he did.

Brown just seems to be in the same boat, from the "pub" I hear about him.

Off-base? Yes? No?

The only reason Bennett was discussed along the same lines as LT was the team he went to was that much better.NFL teams did not consider the two close.Brown will not be a top 5 pick. That doesn't mean he isn't close to LT, but their talent does that without the further evidence of their draft slot. Brown will be lucky to be a late 1st, almost certainly a 2nd round pick. Off base fo' sho

Coincidentally Donald Brown is one of the running backs in the draft the Chargers have had in for an interview.

In the sense that he's also a RB, then yes he is similar to Tomlinson.

I'd be somewhat surprised if Brown goes in round 1 and he's not the play maker LT is, let alone was.

The talk in 2001 was Tomlinson v. McAllister, in terms of the top RB available. LT was still pretty much the consensus top RB in the discussion, especially after the Senior Bowl. Bennett was the intriguing underclassmen, undersized speed guy who became more appealing when the Vikings selected him b/c of the hole they had with the retirement of Robert Smith.

 In a league that drafts before the NFL draft, the one guy took Deuce as the #1 RB off the board, I gladly got LT as the 2nd and Bennett went at the 1.7 pick that year. The guy taking Deuce liked the big RB and he got the bigger one :lmao:

Brown's upside is much more akin to Curtis Martin than LT. Brown does not have the size or elusiveness of LT, but he sure reminds me of Curtis, from body style, speed, character and all around talent set. Brown will never be an annual threat to win an NFL rushing title like LT, but could be that solid 1200+ yards steady producer that Martin was.

Didn't Curtis win the rushing title one year or was it only AFC?

1 year < annual threat.
