I don't expect much from Brown this week. Mostly because he is in my lineup. Beyond that, I think that the Pat's defense is pretty solid. He is coming of an injury. Addai will get more carries and Manning will test the Patriots cb's.As a Brown owner the best I could hope for is 50 yds and a td. Most likely he will have 40 combined yds and no td's.I say 10 carries 40 yards
You had it nailed almost perfectly, just off by 1 yard, and the wrong RB.I say 10 carries 40 yards
Brown looked confused, winded and not ready this week.Brown owners need to be patient because at some point Addai will be hampered by some sort of injury--don't wish it on the guy, but he's been nicked up quite a bit the past few seasons. I think Brown could be a nice start when the FF playoffs begin in a few weeks
Brown outperformed Felix Jones which has to mean something, right? You had it nailed almost perfectly, just off by 1 yard, and the wrong RB.I say 10 carries 40 yards
He was completely outplayed by Chad Simpson last night - never mind Addai when he was in the game. I'm glad the coaches had the guts to put Simpson in the game - and Addai was able to finish.Brown looked confused, winded and not ready this week.Brown owners need to be patient because at some point Addai will be hampered by some sort of injury--don't wish it on the guy, but he's been nicked up quite a bit the past few seasons. Is that really all you could add? Go back to posting not so subtle "which QB should I pickup posts"....Brown outperformed Felix Jones which has to mean something, right? You had it nailed almost perfectly, just off by 1 yard, and the wrong RB.I say 10 carries 40 yards
That was pretty funny. Is Brown not smart enough to play in this system. It seems that every time I've seen him play he has blown an assignment. The announcers last night were talking about him running into Manning in practice. The way Manning runns that offense I can't believe there is any room for a guy that doesn't know it.Is this a situation that will get better next year or is Brown going to be a tease for fantasy owners as long as he is in Indy?Brown looked confused, winded and not ready this week.Brown owners need to be patient because at some point Addai will be hampered by some sort of injury--don't wish it on the guy, but he's been nicked up quite a bit the past few seasons. Don't think it's an intelligence issue - everything I've seen from Brown says the opposite. But there's no denying he hasn't yet grasped the Colts system. Confused and not ready are good terms to describe his play last night (not sure if I would agree with winded though). Still looks good when he gets the ball in his hands, but those opportunities will not come easy if Peyton ends up on his back becuase of him.Is Brown not smart enough to play in this system. It seems that every time I've seen him play he has blown an assignment. I don't think it is really fair to judge a guy on one game immediately after coming back from an injury. It would be more accurate to say that Addai outplayed him yesterday. On the season? Not so clear. Brown has a much better yard per carry and has made bigger plays when he gets the opportunity.I would put it like this: Addai is more consistent and knows the system better. Brown is the bigger play guy. For now what the Colts need is consistency but I still don't see Addai as a more talented player.Addai's much better right now. I think Brown can be a good RB in the future but the Colts should be using Addai as often as possible without overworking him. He's just a much better player right now.
I agree Brown has more big play potential, but I wouldn't necessarily argue big play = greater talent. There are so many things that go into being a running back that prevent a number of really good "big play" guys from making an impact at RB, like Cribbs, Hester, et. al. Addai is a far superior inside runner to Brown, and I would argue has better vision. Brown is faster to the edge. Addai is the better blocker and reciever, and honestly has more power. And that's not just based on one game, that's based on the season. And don't forget that Addai started this season recovering from ankle surgery. The last few games he's been playing at a very high level.I don't think it is really fair to judge a guy on one game immediately after coming back from an injury. They said he actually ran into Peyton on a running play in practice. They also stated that Indy changes their playcalling up every week and it would be easy to fall behind. They did remark about how smart Brown is though. Sounds to me like an overwhelmed rookie in one of the most intricate offensive systems in the NFL, who fell behind due to injury time off.Last night the announcers mentioned that Brown was having trouble in practice (missing assignments, etc.) NOT a good sign.

I had hoped that Brown would have picked up the system and started to seriously eat into Addai's PT by now, but it looks like it won't be until 2010 for us to see a serious impact by Brown.maybei hope so, and i'm sure the indianapolis brass would prefer brown to pick it up since he's present the most upside of any of their rbs.but he looked terrible last night. he missed quite a few assignments--more than once manning ended up on his backside. brown looked bad that they benched him for Simpson. even after simpson hurt his head, they brought addai back in because brown wasn't cutting it. and that's not to mention that his running looked only so-so. had a couple nice burst and found a couple decent creases, but overall it wasn't very impressive even with the ball in his hand. not a good night for brown at all the kid was not ready--who knows what he's been doing the last couple of weeks but it sure didn't look like he was studying the playbook.Sounds to me like an overwhelmed rookie in one of the most intricate offensive systems in the NFL, who fell behind due to injury time off.I had hoped that Brown would have picked up the system and started to seriously eat into Addai's PT by now, but it looks like it won't be until 2010 for us to see a serious impact by Brown.
The Colt's offense is like no other in football. They have really revolutionized the game with their play calling and no huddle offense, letting Peyton audible at the line. The fact that Brown came out of UCONN, which is by no means a national powerhouse or breeding ground for NFL players, probably contributes to the fact that he is having trouble in this offense. For some players out of college, it can be very tough to adjust to the NFL system and pace of the game. Its EXTREMELY tough for RB coming from a school like UCONN to adjust to a complicated offense like the Colts. Especially when your QB with a football IQ through the roof is changing plays and formation at the line as much as Manning does. Playing in the Big East, Brown had good competition, but he wasn't exposed blocking the linemen and linebackers you see in the NFL. Add to that, the complicated Colts offense, and you see why he looks confused. It's like learning a whole new language.Sounds to me like an overwhelmed rookie in one of the most intricate offensive systems in the NFL, who fell behind due to injury time off.I had hoped that Brown would have picked up the system and started to seriously eat into Addai's PT by now, but it looks like it won't be until 2010 for us to see a serious impact by Brown.
I have to disagree with pretty much your whole post. How does big play ability not translate into a great Rb. Cribbs and Hester are not RBs and are not capable of carrying 20 times a game as Brown is. The only case where this point is valid is where the back is too small to be a featured back, but Brown carried the rock a ton in college so I just don't think that is valid. Bad analogy. The RBs who lack big play ability get replaced as starters after a year or two. As far as Addai being a far superior inside runner, I have not seen it, nor have I seen superior vision. If he is so much better than why is his yard per carry so much worse? Receiver? Again, I don't see any evidence of that. Power? Not even close. The only advantage I see is that Addai right now is a better blocker and is still more comfortable in that offense. It's a tough offense to learn because Manning changes plays on the fly so that isn't surprising.Time will tell but I expect something similar to what happened with Rice and McGahee to happen with Brown and Addai. It's just a matter of time.I agree Brown has more big play potential, but I wouldn't necessarily argue big play = greater talent. Are you talking this season?Time will tell but I expect something similar to what happened with Rice and McGahee to happen with Brown and Addai. It's just a matter of time.
If he is, he's not correct. Addai has really played well in last 3 games.Teef said:Are you talking this season?az_prof said:Time will tell but I expect something similar to what happened with Rice and McGahee to happen with Brown and Addai. It's just a matter of time.
I drafted him foremost in the full dynasty league we started figuring that no later than next year sometime he'll start eating into Addai's carries and eventually be the feature back, but hoped he would be a sleeper that took over by end of year. Same with Mendenhall.Looks like I got my wish with Mendenhall who I originally thought was the less likely of the two to make an impact this year. I'll have to wait a year or so for Brown.Bottom line though is I still think Brown is the future of the Colts running game.Sounds to me like an overwhelmed rookie in one of the most intricate offensive systems in the NFL, who fell behind due to injury time off.I had hoped that Brown would have picked up the system and started to seriously eat into Addai's PT by now, but it looks like it won't be until 2010 for us to see a serious impact by Brown.
Not so sure. Addai is still young, and isn't going to be expensive to keep. He picked up the offense much quicker than Brown is picking it up, and has Manning's trust, and Polian absolutely loves Addai.I drafted him foremost in the full dynasty league we started figuring that no later than next year sometime he'll start eating into Addai's carries and eventually be the feature back, but hoped he would be a sleeper that took over by end of year. Polian recognizes the OL isn't doing anything, and Addai has to do everything himself.Later he commented on Brown:“It's all Joseph,” Polian said. “There's not a lot of running room there. We know we don't have an offensive line where everybody is designed to be 325 pounds and knock the opposing team off the football. That's not what we do. When there has been room, he has made big plays and when there hasn't been room, he has put those pads down and gained four yards and five carries. It has been fine.“If we run this way for the rest of the season, we're going to be perfectly OK.”
In other words, Brown was the worst of the three RBs but don't blame the injuries.I'm sure Brown will see more carries as the season goes on, but I have doubts about him replacing Addai unless Addai misses significant time with injury.“He's fine. He came out of the game with a bit of a sore back. No problem with it. The shoulder was bothering him just a bit, but not enough to hinder him. He did recognition mistakes on a couple of blitzes and he had the penalty, which really wasn't his fault. Gene Huey, our running backs coach, decided to give him a blow and put [Chad] Simpson into the game. He had the hot hand. He ran exceptionally well. Gene just left him in there until it was [running back] Joseph [Addai's] turn to come on back and it was a good decision.”
