Donald Butler LB1? (1 Viewer)

He played every down this past week. I'm hearing he's in for a breakout season. Can he finish as the #1 fantasy LB this season? Projections?

I just picked him up in place of McCarthy. I've been hearing a lot of good things and based on his week 1 performance, I think he can produce LB1 numbers with potential for a big play here and there.

I picked him up in my 10 team IDP (start 2 DL, 2 LB, 2 DBs) league in the first round of waivers (we couldn't add/drop during the offseason or I would have then). I also got DJ Smith in the 2nd round of waivers...and this was with D'Qwell, Tulloch, and Poz already on my roster (and Bishop in my IR spot). Now that I'm rostering 6 LBs on a 32 man roster, I need to trade something.

I was offered a future 3rd round rookie pick for Butler, but think he's worth more as I think he can easily be a top 10 LB this season if he plays all 16 games.

Guy shouldn't have been available in waivers. I drafted him in the 12th round in my IDP league as about the 15th LB off the board. And a number of other owners said they wanted him, but they didn't value him quite as high as I did. I'm glad he's on my team.

Id call him a rock solid LB 2 (#10-22).

Last year he was #33 or so, and left the field frequently in nickle/dime.

He only had 3 splash plays (sack/int) in 16 games last year, that number would need a rather large uptick to get LB1 numbers.

*He was my one LB target that slid, 15th round in a 16 team (start 4 LB) league. But I knew his name wasnt drawing much attention.

Jene was pimping him last year do I picked him up. He started a bunch of games for me in 2011. Very solid producer and seems to only be getting stronger.

I rarely saw this guy around the ball. Obviously NO had only a few rushing attempts and it seemed like most of their plays went down the field as opposed to close to the line.

Yup. I'm not worried about Butler. Even the best have poor weeks. I still view him as a low end LB1, with the potential to be top 5.

Butler cost me my game. I wish he had at leat given me a mediocre performance and I'd have had the win. I feel kind of stupid for starting him against the Saints as they dont run much but I had seen decent LB tackle numbers against them in previous game to think I'd at least get a little production. I will be extra careful with players vs. the Saints in the future.

Also in a similar situation where I might need to bail on Butler.

We start 2 flex spots, a DL, and a DB. I've already been burned by Trent Cole. Hurt by McCarthy's injury...it's been a tough year for my defense. At least Ware gets the occasional sack....

He seems to be milling about instead of throwing himself at ball carriers and receivers in his area. Everytime there was a pile on a ball carrier last night, he was standing around after the play was over. Everyone else seems to be beating him to the ball (ie Weddle, Bigby, Spikes). Maybe having the green dot on his helmet is causing him to overthink things? Maybe its the scheme? Not sure what to think.

I had benched Butler this week based on the Denver matchup - same vs. New Orleans - both teams only had 19 rushing attempts vs. SD in their respective games.

Although SD have a bye this week I'm not cutting Butler yet - CLE and KC are SD's next opponents and should offer some more tackle opportunities.

I would cut Butler for Wright right now if he's available. I have Wright, he's very consistent. Good match-up vs. SF Thursday too.

Does Wright have much/any big play potential? His tackle numbers have been very consistent, but there's not much else to speak of (2 PD, 1 FF). That makes him a nice LB3 or low end LB2. Does he ever rush the passer? How is he in coverage? Also, is he a 3 down LB? Just wondering if he has any upside beyond what he's shown so far...Sorry for the hijack.

Last season Wright had 2 sacks, that's about it. He is a 3 down LB per Jene's "Every Down Linebackers" thread.

So at this point we have to go with Wright now with his 9 solos? We think Butler gets 9 solos in his next two games?

Of course I waited to see what happens this week to decide and now I'm sure after this week I won't be the only one bidding on him. Oh well...

6 tackles and a pass defensed through 3 tonight, but he should also have another tackle and a forced fumble. D.Williams (#58) was given credit for Bowe's fumble, but it was clearly Butler. Here's hoping that gets fixed...

I plugged in Butler tonight and thought the same as you. It was a strong outing for him overall but was so close to a mega score for him.

Yahoo just posted their corrections and Butler isn't listed. Does anyone have a link that shows the Butler was credited with the forced fumble?

3-15-SD 33 (2:27) (Shotgun) 7-M.Cassel pass short right to 82-D.Bowe to SD 23 for 10 yards (58-D.Williams, 54-M.Ingram). FUMBLES (58-D.Williams), RECOVERED by SD-23-Q.Jammer at SD 22. 23-Q.Jammer to SD 22 for no gain (74-E.Winston).THEY GAVE IT TO WILLIAMS! Butler's number looks like it's 58 when he gets up. I don't even see Williams on the field.....GAAAAAFFFFEEE

So... is Butler just never going to get that FF? That play would have won me my game. How could they mess that up?

I contacted the ESB and they told me they will look into it (and you have to think they would change it if they actually do look into it). The things I do for fantasy football...

I just emailed Yahoo to let them know and included the nfl.com link. Hopefully this can still be fixed.

I just received an email from Yahoo in regards to Butler's FF last week:

"Hello,

Thank you for contacting Yahoo! Sports.

I apologize for the inconvenience this has cased you. I did some more digging into the issue with our engineers and found that Donald Butler did in fact have 1 forced fumble.

It looks like our data provided for stat corrections missed this. Unfortunately, we are unable to make this correction within your league on our end, as too much time has already passed and it is a private league. However, as the commish, you can edit the points.

If you have any league issues, you can let them know that Butler should have had 1 FF, and we should have caught this error sooner.

Again, extremely sorry for the confusion regarding this issue. We are definitely working with our data provider to prevent this from happening again.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Thank you again for contacting Yahoo! Sports."

Thankfully I'm the league commissioner, but it would have been nice for them to have fixed it when they posted their corrections earlier in the week. Yahoo has never been good at getting IDP right.

It's ridiculous that Yahoo is claiming their system is somehow unable to process this correction.

Chargers ILB Donald Butler (groin) is not expected to play in Week 13.

The Chargers' defense got decimated by injury in Sunday's overtime loss to the Ravens as seven players left early. 2011 second-round pick Jonas Mouton is expected to be active this week and could see the majority of snaps on early downs.
