Donnie Avery or Sidney Rice? (1 Viewer)

Both are on my WW and I go back and forth on whom to chose. As Gage is my WR3 and seems to be oft-injured, one of these guys may have to step in and help immediately also. Dynasty rankings seem to have them close. I am very interested in the Shark pool opinions on these two guys.

Must be smaller rosters in that league. Assuming that, I don't see much out of either this year. The passing offense in MN is brutal, and STL is a mess. If those guys are available on your wire, I'd think there are better options for a WR3 this year.

Longer term I like Rice IF the vikes can:

1. Get a real QB

2. Get a new coach / OC

3. Find a way to take advantage of Rice's talent

Both would be good 'hold' guys if you have the space in dynasty formats

I own Rice and am hoping things take a turn for the better in Minnesota. I am concerned about the nagging injuries that have popped up over the last two years. If I had room on my roster I would grab Chris Henry, not Donnie Avery. I think the guy can play. If he stays out of trouble and #85 moves on next year he could be productive player.

I like Avery because he's a playmaker. A receiver brash enough to predict a TD in his first start ... and then actually do it. I've seen Rice make a few circus catches, but I don't see him realizing his potential in Minny under the existing conditions around him. Avery will start alongside Holt, and learn from him as he goes along. I see Avery making an impact down the stretch this year. Rice, not so much.

I am equally high on S.Rice, D.Avery and Steve Smith (NY) as young dynasty potentials. However, all three have been brittle to date with plenty to prove as far as handling CBs. Rice has the highest ceiling and lowest floor, Avery and Smitty are more polished.
