I am wondering who is going to have the bigger year in 2009? Donnie Avery or Dom Hixon.

Edit to add Anthony Gonzalez to the discussion.

Avery seems like he is in the best position to break out. That team has been looking for a legitimate #2 WR for a few years now and may have found it.Gonz should have increased production as Harrison slows down but will remain the #3 as long as Harrison and Wayne are there.Hixon I'm not as sold on. If Toomer is gone and Plaxico... he may break into the starting line up but I don't see that as a particularly good thing for NY.

Holt is likely going to be cut. Harrison and Toomer are both candidates to be cut as well.

Tomer's a free agent - but you are correct in that he will not be back.I haven't heard anything about Holt being cut, but with the team rebuilding and having two good young WRs in Avery and Burton I guess that's not out of the question. As to the OP.Donnie Avery seemed like the real deal in games I saw him. He's got great deep speed.

I say Gonzo / Avery / Hixon in that order!

Harrison will likely be gone(cut or retire or whatever) and even if not Gonzo will put up great #s!!

Avery showed some things for the Rams!! But they were almost always down and seemed to try and air it out to him! He has skills though!! I say 2010 will be his BIG year!? But 2009 will also be a very productive year(WR3?)

Hixon Im not sold on? He is a solid 3rd WR on most NFL teams! But a 2nd or 3rd he is not?? And my guess is that the G-Men will go after a WR via free agency and or draft? I agree with an above reply that S.Smith may actually end up with better #s next year? He is a slot WR and the Giants are a run first team! So there will be plenty of 3rd and shorts that they will be in and utilize Smith!

Speaking of slot WR....... does anyone have a link for a Lance Moore thread? Interested in what thoughts are on him??

IMO steve smith will do better than hixon this coming year.
More receptions but fewer yards and scores imo.From the rankings38 WR Domenik Hixon, NYG 57 33 32 40.7 33.0 33.039 WR Plaxico Burress, NYG 31 42 51 41.3 42.0 42.049 WR Steve Smith, NYG 51 47 60 52.7 51.0 51.0

true lots of receptions.. Ill rephrase it... IN PPR. Smith will be better than Hixon. MAYBE in no ppr.. well see. i think in the red zone, if smiths the #2 he will be able to make the short catches and score. But cant forget theyre monsterous run game.. But itll probably be separated after this year.

I've got all three of the guys mentioned here in my keeper league, and can keep all, some or none of them. I think you have to wait until after the draft and the June cuts to get a real gauge on what each player's role with their team will be for the coming year.

Of the three, I'm the most worried about Hixon. I doubt the Giants can afford to keep both Brandon Jacobs and Derrick Ward, so the running game will have a different look to it.

I didn't get a chance to see much of Avery this year -- was he just used as a deep threat or did they try to work him into some intermediate stuff?

It is a difficult task to rank these guys for 2009 today because a couple of them have a lot of possibilities and presumptions attached to their production next year.

Avery seems like the safest bet right now. He showed some flashes as a rookie and it looks like he will be a starter next season.

Now things start to get hazy.

I like the future potential of Anthony Gonzalez but am not sure he will be ready to take a huge production leap next year. Presently Harrison is there and I would not just assume he gets cut. We are talking about a guy who has played his entire career as a Colt. If he wants to play another year or two he could restruction and make it affordable for him to hang around. The bright spot for Gonzo is that Wayne is also getting up there so he could really bump up his numbers over the next few years. Is it 2009 or beyond that?

I like Hixon as well. I think this guy has a real shot at starting in 2009. Plax is a question mark even though I have a feeling he will be back with the Giants. It sounds like Toomer may very well be gone. Steve Smith seems more like a WR3 in their system and is preferred on 3rd down. This would hint that Hixon could be the frontrunner to be a starter. I'm not sure if Moss or Manningham could challenge for a big role in the offense but I guess it is a possibility.

I would probably today say Avery-Gonzo-Hixon for 2009 right now but it will probably change as things work themselves out heading into training camp.

I'll be the one to probably say Gonzo. Harrison will likely be cut, he'll step in the number #2 role with Wayne and Clark seeing the most coverage. He's shown flashes, in full-time #2 duty I can see him rack up 80 catches for 1100 and 7 TD's. Avery has more potential but a less potent offense. If Avery had more going for him, I'd say Avery, but he's walking into a new system that's probably going to rely on the run. Hixon as a NYG Homer/Fan... I really don't see him being a major contributor as a receiver next season.
