Donnie Avery vs. NY Jets (1 Viewer)

Trap Play

Footballguy
So Donnie Avery returned to Earth last weekend after facing WR1 type coverage from the Arizona Cardinals. Will the same hold true for this weekend vs the New York Jets (WR1 type coverage) that is?

I like this match-up for Avery, statistically, given the potential for a lack of a running game on the Rams part and the Jets defense being weaker against the pass. However, I am concerned the Jets will treat Avery like the WR1 as the Cards did and how that will impact him.

Thoughts?

He is WR2-3 status and therefore subject to comparison to my other players. Due to this formula, he will be benched this week in favor of Deuce at flex. A lot depends on what else you have on your team.

I'm benching Avery for Royal

I also am starting Marshall. huge risk, but Royal has looked good, better than Marshall and I can't really bench him

It really depends on three things in my opinion, how well the Rams block up front to avoid the Jets pass rush, how well they establish the rushing game to keep a good offensive balance, and where Revis lines up.

I'm doing the exact same. Deuce at the flex, Royal at the WR2 - both over Avery.

Of course the only week I started Avery was last week. My lineup is solid but my choices for flex are Avery, Eddie Royal, Anthony Gonzalez, Kevin Curtis and Matt Jones, and I pretty much always start the wrong guy. I think I'm rolling with Avery just because I think if I don't he has a big game.

I am going to start Avery again as my WR2 along with Marshall. Starting him over Cotchery, Royal, and Curtis.

I can't go with Royal since I already have Marshall starting. I don't want to start Curtis v the Giants so that leaves Cotchery. Cotchery hasn't been exactly lighting the world on fire lately and Favre tends to spread the ball around to Coles, Keller, Baker, Stuckey, Washington, etc. Avery was still targetted 9 times last week and its basically either him or Holt in the Rams passing game so there is less competition for receptions. Plus, Holt's game last week may result in more coverage being devoted to him and less to Avery. Finally, it is one bad game. Avery had a few good ones before last week so I am not going to give up on starting him just because he has had one bad game in the past month.

Very funny -- we have the exact same receiving corps. FWIW, I've settled on starting Marshall, Avery and Royal this week. Strategy dictated by a weak opponent -- I want all of the Broncos WR production. If I were playing a stronger team, I'd probably throw Cotch in there over Royal.

;) I too am starting Marshall/Royal this week and leaving Avery on the bench.

:hifive: I too am starting Marshall/Royal this week and leaving Avery on the bench.
Interesting because I am also playing the Cutler owner tonight. He still may switch him out but if I play Marshall and Royal I will almost cancel out anything Cutler does tonight. But, I am still worried that the Broncos offense looks terrible again so Royal and/or Marshall might have bad/mediocre games and Cutler somehow throws a TD to Stokley or Jackson. So I am going to diversify my risk with Avery.

Are you my clone??? :goodposting: :goodposting: I have BMarsh, Royal and Avery AND I'm playing the Cutler owner...I'm benching Avery FWIW.

He is currently in at my flex, but I think in the final analysis he'll be benched for Moore vs my Falcons. Which might hurt.

Unless SJAX plays, which it looks like he won't.

I like Avery, but I'd personally go with Cotch.

I think that I'm liking the bye weeks over the weeks when I have a full roster.

During the bye weeks you starting lineup is pretty much decided for you. During the non-bye weeks you have to "man up" and actually make choices!

I like it better when I can simply shrug my shoulders and move on.

For example:

Now in Week 10 I am done with all bye weeks and I have to actually make decisions

QB:

J. Cutler

T. Edwards

RB:

L. Tomlinson

M. Lynch

D. Sproles

R. Torain

WR/TE:

R. Moss

E. Royal

D. Avery

J. Shockey

My PK and DEF/ST are no brainers because I always carry only 1 DEF/ST and don't pick up a 2nd PK until the playoffs begin.

So, I'll start Cutler and Tomlinson for sure and bench Sproles for sure.

That means that I have to field 3 players from this list:

Shockey

Avery

Lynch

Torain

Moss

Royal

I am sure that whatever I pick will be wrong.

That is strange. Small world. I won't post the rest of my roster then since it would really be strange if we had the same RB's and QB's too. Since I am starting Avery though I guess we are not clones after all.
