Avery to see more time:

Rams rookie wideout Donnie Avery will be more involved in the offense when St. Louis takes on Seattle in Week 3, according to ESPN.com. "We factored in a significant amount of plays for him," said Rams coach Scott Linehan.

I do not know much about this kid. Does anyone think he might make an impact in the 2nd half? Are the Rams in too bad of shape for him to even produce? What's the long term outlook for this kid?

He has the opportunity because of injuries and to say he's without upside is complete folly. He's very quick, but I think to expect results from him early on is expecting a bit too much. Think Az Hakim here.

I know that McNabb/Cutler vs. Bulger is a big difference, but the same comment would have applied to Royal and DJackson a few weeks ago.

Very true, but breakout rookie WRs are usually the exceptions, not the norm. There are normally 1-2 rookie WRs who put up decent fantasy points a season, sometimes less. Avery could be good, but the odds are against it, at least in the short term.

:shrug:He's still pretty raw when you stack him up against the likes of De-Jax and Royal. He does have potential, though, and he's as good of bet as anyone on your waiver wire to produce.

I think the greater difference is Eagles o-line/Broncos o-line vs. Rams o-line, but the point is the same. In addition, Avery got outshined in the preseason by his less injured and lower drafted teammate, Burton, so he unlike Desean and Royal doesn't even have that to give you optimism.

Linehan is an Idoit...

He lets the opposing Defenses take away his two best players and figures the solution is a "significant amount of plays for a rookie"

This is why the Rams will be the worst team in the worst division again this year.

said something very similar about Burton, then he got hurt. I think all he's saying is we need a #2 WR

I disagree with all of you I went to some preseason games and practices and Avery is fast as hell and runs good routes. If he is health and the rams need to throw all year he still could out shine all other rookie WR, when healthy he will be the #2 WR across from Holt very soon!!!!

Preseason does not always equate to regular season success. Not sure if Avery is ready to face top-flight CB's. Keep in mind, most of the time in the preseason, he was facing cornerbacks that are probably dime backs at best in the regular season.

And here I thought it was because they have no offensive line and no defense. I guess maybe it's more of a perfect storm of suckage.

The Rams have elevated rookie Donnie Avery to the starting lineup over Dane Looker and Eddie Kennison

More shakeup in St. Louis. Avery isn't ready for the promotion after a lost training camp and preseason, but he showed promise with three catches in Week 3. He's worth grabbing in deep settings. Still, it'd be unwise to expect much more than 50 yards against the Bills this week. Perhaps Avery's blazing wheels will alleviate some of the focus on Torry Holt opposite him. :lmao:They keep bringing Dante Hall out there to start opposite Holt. I'm not sure he has ever run an accurate route in his life. The guy needs to be relegated to kick/punt returns and end arounds...
