Donnie Brasco (1 Viewer)

Not bad, great performances. If you like Depp or Pacino remotely(how can you not?) I'd watch it. If you like both in the least, must see.

The book is incredible, obviously more in depth and better.

There is also a book which was written by the FBI agent Depp portrays in the movie that is AMAZING, talks about the nuances (sp?) of being in the mob, ex. behavior at dinner, how to keep a side women, lack of any shame. Just a great read overall.

I watched it and liked it. Not the best mob movie, but believeable.

Thanks for the recommendations.

i thought this flick took the veneer off the mob pretty well. it doesn't glorify or romanticize the mob really. i enjoyed it quite a bit.

Agreed. It was also the only film in recent memory where Pacino isn't playing AL PACINO!!!!!!!!!!. I've gotten to where I don't enjoy his movies anymore when he's in AL PACINO!!!!!!!!!! mode. I watched Godfather II the other day & was amazed (again) at how low-key he was compared to what we have now. And, while not quite as bad, both Nicholson & DeNiro are getting to AL PACINO!!!!!!!!-land to me.

Watched "10th and Wolf" the other night, another mob flick based on Donnie Brasco. I had never heard of it, a kid a blockbuster said it was good. It was.

Good call on Serpico.I have to admit to hypocrisy, though. John Wayne did the same thing (played himself in every movie) & it doesn't bother me nearly as much. Part of it, I know, is that Pacino is so damned shrill anymore & he overacts like crazy (the Duke underacted if anything - especially later in his career, Rooster Cogburn notwithstanding) - that combo just doesn't appeal to me. Nicholson & DeNiro pretty much just play the same guy in most of their films anymore, but aren't quite as irritating as our boy Al.

i watched them film some scenes on a random visit to NYC. was pretty cool. only movie i've seen filmed up close. saw some of one of those stupid spy kids movies filmed in austin from a distance. pretty cool to say i saw donnie brasco filmed though.

See Kevin Costner.
Costner isn't deified as an Actor like Pacino, Nicholson, or Deniro though (neither was Wayne for that matter).

This flick just started on the Esquire Network. On a related note, I just learned there is something called the Esquire Network.
