Donnie Edwards a Chief. (1 Viewer)

I'm assuming he will be taking Mitchell's spot at the Mike? I can't see them paying that kind of money for strictly a locker room guy. Donnie's got a lot left in the tank.

The Kansas City Chiefs signed free-agent LB Donnie Edwards to a three-year, $13.5 million deal including $7.5 million guaranteed.
I'm a huge Edwards fan and think he's still playing at a very high level but I can't help but wonder if he's re-thinking all the time he's spent complaining about his salary w/SD. In a sky-high market this off-season he procures a 3yr deal w/7.5 guaranteed? Maybe SD wasn't low-balling him this whole time like he thought. Hard to say without seeind how the deal is structured but he was making $3mil in '05 and $3.5mil in '06. Doesn't seem like that much of a jump in salary to me.Still really, really surprised there wasn't more talk of him landing in N.O. KC is in rebuilding mode and while it's a nice story for Edwards to end his career back in KC as an Edwards fan it would have been an even nicer story if he'd have been contending for a SB in N.O. instead. Oh, and then SD wouldn't have to play him twice a year either!

I thanked Marty for dragging the SD franchise from the depths to respectability and beyond and the same thanks and well-wishes go out to Edwards. He was a larger part of the transformation than most people realize.

He is worth negative dollars as a locker room guy. He is getting paid many positive dollars because of his play on the field. He is 34 years old, but he had a good season last year, proving that any decline in his play in 2005 was due to injury (he was playing with a knee that required post-season surgery), not age.Edwards is one of the best pass defenders in the league at LB. He has 17 interceptions in the last five years. He's also led the Chargers in tackles in each of the past five years.Dude can still play.

:lmao: I bet a lot of his locker room BS is history now that he got paid and has a new lease on his football life.
