Bentley's expired tag lands a Saints Stallworth in jail

JOAN FLEISCHMAN

3/22/2006

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Donte' Stallworth was no saint when Miami Beach police officer Erick Pagan stopped him for driving with an expired paper tag on a black 2005 Bentley, cops say.

Happened at 5:05 a.m. Saturday along the 1200 block of Washington Avenue, near police headquarters. Stallworth, 25, handed Pagan his license, then tried to drive off, the report says. Detective Luis King asked him to step out of the car, but he ''refused by pulling away and tensing.'' Stallworth would not shut off the engine or get off his phone, police say. Officers charged him with resisting arrest without violence, cited him for the expired tag, towed the Bentley and took him to jail.

''Defendant then stated this was going to cost us a lot of money and that he would have our jobs. Defendant further stated he knew the chief of police and that we would be hearing from his lawyer.'' Stallworth could not be reached for comment.

FYI, Beach chief Don De Lucca says he doesn't know him :excited:

Pro athletes sure do seem to let their registrations expire a lot. For some reason this ussually leads to an arrest.

Stallworth would not shut off the engine...
Tony Soprano did this one time when Roc pulled him over.
Yeah but that didn't work out too well for Roc. Stallworth should have said he was Tony Soprano's brother and opened his wallet with an exposed c-note. It would have at least made for a better story than the one here about him being just another jackass.

Stallworth traded to the Raiders.
Or Washington? Is really going to hurt Brees any? With Horn getting up there in years and Stallworth leading the league in drops..... Maybe D Henderson is the new sleeper!!

With so many cars, they probably forget which ones need their tags updated.
I thought most states mailed a notice to take to tag agency.

And they are always getting arrested in Florida.
We dont take kindly to pro athletes coming down here and running amuk. This aint summer camp!

oh yeah - and what does a guy his age drive a Bentley for anyway?

He's about 40 years too young and a chauffeur short to drive around in that kind of vehicle...
