Doug Baldwin rips Cris Carter (1 Viewer)

Ghost Rider

As someone who has long hated Carter, I approve of this.

Short story: Carter called the Seattle WRs appetizers a few weeks ago, and said they can google his name to see what the Hall of Fame is about. Baldwin shot back tonight and said he'll show Carter his Super Bowl ring, and if he can't make it, he can google it to see it. :lmao:

I usually dislike it when a current player goes after the media or former players that work in the media, but in this case Carter deserved it. As a guy that had a very slow start to his career he shouldn't be passing judgement on players still trying to find their roles/identities in the league.

I stopped listening to him after he said that Calvin Johnson was not an elite WR....
I remember this from few years ago, he ate his words big time there and still gets mocked for it on his show sometimes (I noticed a few at least). He is an arrogant person who normally does not trash others in his gloating about life process. But this time he crossed the line of trying to make others look bad. Now before I say this I have never heard a player say they wanted a HoF ring over a SB ring. So, guess Carter is eating his words again. Now a HoF ring is a better life time achievement but we all know what matters to the players who compete. The want a title over anything, people turn down money for a shot at it sometimes.

Media and it's sensationalism, they will say anything to attempt to make a story about it...SMH. Touché Mr. Baldwin, nicely done!

That's awesome, well done Super bowl champ Baldwin!

It took a while for people to cool off on Carter, since people seemed to think he was fighting the second version of American slavery because f Carter being held out of the HOF, but I always knew he was a jerk. Hopefully he loses his job soon and gets addicted to heroin, in no particular order.

Mike Morris was the long snapper for the Vikings back when Carter played for them. Morris got a radio show after he retired and has made his dislike for Carter well known...

CC needs to just shut up. He was trying to defend his comments late last night after the game. Something like enjoy it now but you're a back up next year. Somebody needs to tell him to zip it.

Carter can be a meathead, but now so is Baldwin. Baldwin can't talk smack to Carter because of this ring.

That's like Dilfer talking smack to Dan Marino.

haha. I dont even think it was a few years ago, it was like 2 years ago when YOUNG CHILDREN knew Calvin was elite. He had guys like Reggie Wayne ranked ahead of him.

If Marino ever decided to be a D-bag and talk down to Dilfer for no reason, I think Dlifer going with the "I have a ring and you don't" slam would be just fine and perfectly appropriate.

Desean Jackson too who soiled the sheets. Calvin dropped 1600 that year. How does carter misjudge his own position that badly?

I would see nothing wrong with it. If Marino comes out first. It would be totally different if Dilfer threw it out there to begin with.

Sure Baldwin can.....he just did.

Carter was even talking trash less than an hour before the game. The lack of a ring stings him and he knows it.

KISS DA RING!!!!!!

Agreed. Plus, Carter's reasoning, that he said it because Baldwin only started because Harvin and Rice got hurt, is asinine. There is a long list of NFL players that got their chance to play due to an injury and took the ball and ran with it. I guess Carter would have called Kurt Warner an appetizer back in 1999, or Tom Brady one back in 2001. Now, Baldwin didn't light the world on fire like those guys did, but he still had a nice season as a WR on a Super Bowl-winning team that is more about defense and running the ball than throwing it all over the place.

Right, which is what Carter did to Baldwin and the other WRs. It's not like Baldwin said anything first.

It's not like Robert Turbin is running up to Adrian Peterson and talking smack because he has a ring. But if Peterson decides to talk some smack about Turbin for whatever reason, then it's open season for Turbin to flash the ring and some choice words.

Well, here's the thing. I really have no problem with Carter calling out their WRs for being average, because they are. When your job is to do nothing but talk, eventually you are going to have some opinions that players don't particularly like. He was definitely accurate that the Seattle WRs outside of Harvin aren't really anything special, even though more than half of what he says about other WRs seems to be just idiotic.

I also have no problem with Baldwin sticking it right back in his face.

If someone is half way serious about being a commentator/analyst, he doesn't "call out" players at all. If he thinks SEA's WR corp (or Baldwin specifically) is a weak area, there are ways of saying that. Smack talk should be "by players, for players".

The comments are so bizarre that I almost wonder if there is some additional history here.

Agreed, with both of you. There are definitely ways to critique a player or WR crops without using demeaning descriptions like "appetizers," but Carter has always a monster #####, so this is par for the course, for him.

As for Baldwin, while I love him firing back at Carter, he probably needs to tone down the "we are the most efficient WR corps" talk. Just because you are the best team doesn't mean you have the best everything.

Carter is a sham HOFer too. Guy was not demonstratively elite over his era.
:goodposting:

It's been said many times before, but Chris Carter really only did one thing.
If you are going with the "only catches TDs", I don't buy it. It has been documented that Buddy Ryan said that because he was covering for Carter because of his drug issues. He chose not to throw him under the bus, and came up with an albiet lame excuse as to why he traded him. Look, Carter was very good...first ballot, no. Maybe not even HOFer, but he still is #4 all-time in receptions and #9 in receiving yards...guy is a Richard, but you can't say he was not good...

I think we may be undervaluing Baldwin as a WR. He plays on a run first team and absolutely would have been the #3 (at best) WR on Seattle if everyone was healthy, but he was undeniably the most important WR on the team throughout the season. He has a knack for big sideline catches and 3rd down conversions, plus he had only 2 dropped passes and 50 catches on 73 targets. That's a very nice target % of 68.5 and a low drop % of 2.7.

He may not be at Chris Carter's career level, but then again he has only just completed year three (and it's been pointed out that his career stats are actually better than Carter's at the same point in his career). I'd say that given the right circumstances - a change of scenery or increased emphasis on the pass in Seattle - he could develop into a Wes Welker type of slot receiver with his short area quickness, toughness and ability to find the soft spot in the defense. He is already off to a better start, on average, than Welker as well. And he has a much better set of hands on him.

Not saying Hall of Fame, but this guy could become a perennial Pro Bowl type player given the right circumstances. I have a feeling Seattle wants to keep him though, which would limit his upside.

I usually don't like trash talking but Cris Carter took it to another level when he played. One of the all-time classics was a preseason game when he was mic'd up and facing a rookie cornerback. The guy was pretty homely looking and had the worst buck teeth you'd ever see. In the pre-game warm ups Carter went over to him and welcomed him to the NFL, then went on to say that the best part of the NFL was the dental plan. One of the funniest things I have ever seen.

cris carter is jealous that baldwin's eyeballs reside inside of his skull
:lmao:

Baldwin's comeback was great and that's why they call him angry Doug Baldwin; Baldwin did say he respected what Carter did on the field before ripping Carter for being a crappy analyst.

In all honesty, Carter's initial comments weren't that bad. Baldwin is one of the many players on this team that feeds off negative perception. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

All I know is Trent Dilfer ripped Carter a new hole about an hour after the game in a panel exchange. As usual, Carter was being dumb and classless by bringing up deflategate over and over. Dilfer simply had enough and gave him a verbal ### whipping the likes of which I haven't seen in a while. Not often you see CC speechless like that.
