Patriots declared Doug Gabriel, WR Chad Jackson, LB Tedy Bruschi, FB/TE Garrett Mills, C/G Gene Mruczkowski, OT Nick Kaczur, DE Marquise Hill, and NT Johnathan Sullivan inactive for Week 1.Troy Brown, Reche Caldwell, and Bam Childress will hold down the fort at wide receiver. Gabriel isn't 100% and is learning the system. Mike Vrabel will move inside at linebacker.Source: Boston Globe

I thought Childress looked good enough to hang onto maybe even play a smidge in 06. Then they cut him. Now they've got him back and he's one of the few active WRs? very odd but good for him. I hope he does well

It's amazing that no matter how much you follow the Pats they can still surprise you on a consistent basis. Childress went from preseason star to practice squad to probably getting a lot of time in the opener...all within a week.

totally agree

Kaczur not playing.....I know the OL has solid depth, but this move will impact them at some point today.
I thought I read this already or that it was expected so I'd guess they're prepared for it. IMO if you have to lose a lineman you want to lose a linemen as close to camp as possible as that's when the backups have had the most reps+game time

People automatically look for the next-best WR on New England's roster in terms of fantasy production.

I look for Ben Watson to shoulder the load and get fantasy owners (including me, of course) big points.

I think everyone expects Watson to be the guy. But unless Brady only throws for 140 yards, there's a good chance someone else gets a few catches. In the preseason game against the Skins, Brady looked to Brown and Watson, and ONLY to those two. Tough to draw conclusions based on preseason, but he and Brown do know each other.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the backs (Faulk) get a lot of catches. If possible, the Pats may even run more screens this year.
