Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger suffered an injury during practice on Thursday, and he currently is being tended to by trainers.

Per our buddy Mike Logan of ESPN 1250 in Pittsburgh (yes, the same Mike Logan who played for the Steelers and West Virginia University), left tackle Max Starks fell and rolled up on Roethlisberger's leg.

We'll provide more info as we get it.

Big Ben to be re-examined

Two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback Ben Roethlisberger injured his right Achilles tendon when offensive tackle Max Starks inadvertently stepped on it during the Steelers' practice Thursday.

But an initial medical examination revealed no significant damage, a team source said.

Roethlisberger initially complained about feeling considerable pain but later reported that it had begun to subside.

Roethlisberger was expected to be re-examined Friday and his playing status for the team's game against the Redskins remained undecided.

However, he did travel with the team Friday to Washington, D.C., according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Roethlisberger had an ice pack on the back of his right ankle when he was carted off at the end of Thursday's workout, with offensive coordinator Bruce Arians accompanying him.

Roethlisberger didn't talk to reporters, but he could be overheard saying, "Oh it just feels great. It feels like a car ran over it."

As the Steelers' starting offense practiced against the starting defense, Starks couldn't handle a rush from linebacker James Harrison, the 2008 NFL defensive player of the year.

Starks went down to one knee as he tripped Roethlisberger, who stayed on the turf for about five minutes.

Roethlisberger takes a hit in practice, limps offThursday, August 20, 2009Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-GazetteSteelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger went down with a right foot or ankle injury today in the final practice of training camp.Tackle Max Starks fell into him during a pass in team drills 20 minutes before the end of practice.Trainers attended to Roethlisberger as practice continued. They eventually wrapped his ankle in ice and he watched the rest of practice sitting on a water cooler with a towel draped over his head.Twenty minutes after the ice was placed on his right ankle, it was removed by trainer John Norwig. Roethlisberger pulled his right shoe back on and limped to the sideline. There, team president Art Rooney asked him how it was.Roethlisberger replied, with a slight smile, "Oh, it just feels great. It feels like a car ran over it."A minute later, someone else asked him how he was. Roethlisberger said, "Oh, I'll be all right."Roethlisberger finished watching the rest of practice sitting on a Gatorade bucket on the sideline. While there was no immediate word on the extent of his injury, it appeared not to be serious. If it were, in past such instances with players, Steelers medical staff would place the player on a cart for immediate medical treatment and/or tests.

Ben Roethlisberger was seen icing his Achilles after OT Max Starks rolled into the back of his ankle.Beat writer Jim Wexell tweets that Big Ben was not taken off the field, "so it shouldn't be torn." He was later up and limping, though no one with the Steelers seemed overly concerned about the injury. "I'll be alright," he said to an assistant standing close by.

Steelers DT Chris Hoke, WTAE-TV's Steelers "camp insider" just said the injury doesn't look serious and will be okay with some ice and a little TLC. When asked if Ben will play on Saturday he said that will be up to Tomlin and Ben.
