D'Qwell Jackson (1 Viewer)

Started as a rookie from game 1 on ... He gets lots of tackles but absolutely nothing and I mean NOTHING else. In first 18 games

No Sacks

No Ints

No Forced Fumles

No Fumble Recoveries

One Pass Defended

There is no other player like this ...

I beleive the big plays will come and someday he may be the leader of the defense.

I've always been very high on D'Qwell. Although he may lack some of the physical attributes, he has the intangables you look for at the position. In Jean's RTD this week, he feels D'Qwell's success may be do to the opps more so than talent. I don't think so, Jackson is a very talented football player, and his IDP production is no fluke. I beleive he is the real deal. Some say he's too small, he and Beason are virtually the same (Jackson a few pounds lighter). While Jackson may not have the God given athletic ability that Beason has, D'Qwell makes up for it with his outstanding instincts, great football intell and strong work ethic. Some food for thought ... In years past, Andra Davis was considered one of the top IDP'ers, Jackson is the better player.

Jackson is a very important player to track.Though he has improved this year, I'm not yet convinced that Jackson is an elite talent. He's had plenty of opportunity over the past two seasons, and vastly more opportunity this year than last with his participation in the nickel and an increase in the tackle opportunity metric I discussed in the RTD column this week. Yet, my eyes and his stat lines (other than his tackles) haven't seen outstanding instincts, particularly in coverage, or game-changing talent on the field. I don't disagree that Jackson is a better football player than Andra Davis, but that doesn't necessarily put him in the category of those around him in the overall tackle rankings.

Even with Jackson's on-field improvement, he's not dominated the middle of the field. Although it's not statistically significant, the Browns LILB contingent has out-tackled Jackson 44-13 to 40-11.

I'm not closed-minded on this, but I'm going to need to see more from Jackson than just taking advantage of the opportunity given him to recommend him as a long-term LB1-2 option. That's why I argued that selling high and getting a consistent LB2 option back was a reasonable course of action.

He and Vilma are going to be important data points for the Belichick hybrids this year, though. I'm looking forward to the year end stat lines and team comparisons.

I should have read a little closer, :lmao: "does not have the talent of those who surround him at that lofty rank" Yep ... I agree with that for the most part, Willis, Ryans, Brooks, Edwards ... He's not on those guys level and I doubt he ever will be, but not sure Boley and Barnett are superior to Jackson, in terms of overall talent (once Jackson gains more experience). Wasn't he a mike in a 4-3 @ Maryland?

Hey Jean, I'm a Jackson owner, you know I'm bias :lmao:

I'm pretty sure Maryland runs a 3-4, or did at the time. We're pretty much on the same page here. Jackson is a solid talent; I'm just not convinced he'll continue to get enough opportunity to stay a mid-LB2 plus caliber player.

Browns homer here...

DQ is the inside LB that doesn't rotate (Andra Davis and Leon Williams offset each other - this is unlikely to change as neither Williams or Davis has done anything to warrant more playing time).

DQ is often left with the contain assignment on passing downs at least in the last two games...

However - he and Wimbley never leave the field. This is important because our D is extremely weak up the middle. Our nose-tackle situation is pitiful...

I see DQ as a bit underrated. He will get near double digit tackles every game because our D is sad and he is the constant LB in the middle of the field.

That is all...

Thanks for the info. All of us appreciate homer insight. :lmao:
