Really? Please spell it out for me then. I thought your point was that it would be impossible to build a championship caliber team with a player earning 30 million.
Yes, I'm saying it'd be pretty tough to build a championship quality roster with one guy making $30M under this new CBA.
No you didn't.
Yeah, that was the context of my entire conversation from the get go. Why the #### would I be talking about 16 years ago in relation to the Lakers' current contract situation? You can't seriously be that dense.
Sorry, I just looked back through your posts and don't see you mention the new CBA anywhere. Anyways, here is the roster of the Bulls championship team the first year Jordan made 30 mil:1 Michael Jordan $30,140,000

2 Dennis Rodman $9,000,000

3 Toni Kukoc $3,960,000

4 Ron Harper $3,840,000

5 Luc Longley $2,790,000

6 Scottie Pippen $2,250,000

7 Randy Brown $1,300,000

8 Dickey Simpkins $1,040,000

9 Robert Parish $1,000,000

10 Bill Wennington $1,000,000

11 Steve Kerr $750,000

12 Jason Caffey $700,000

13 Jud Buechler $500,000

You really gonna tell me no one could put together a comparable team with current players and stay within a reasonable level of the current salary cap, even with one player earning 30 million? Come on.
No, you really can't put together a comparable team and the main reason is because of Pippen only making 2.25mm. Pau would be the equivalent of Pippen and you can't get someone with that much talent for that cheap of price.
The salary cap was much less. I believe Pippen was well above the average salary at the time. And my guess, based upon the fact that a couple of years later when he signed with another team he got 11 million, is that he was playing out a contract that he signed with the Bulls. Who knows how long that contract was or how good Pippen was at the time he signed it. Kevin Love is only making 4.6 mil this year, which has got to be comparable to Pippen making 2.25 back then. You can't simply equate salary to performance.

http://lakersblog.latimes.com/lakersblog/2011/12/andrew-bynum-cited-for-speeding-equipment-deficiencies-by-chp.html

Lakers center Andrew Bynum was pulled over twice in the last two days and cited for speeding and equipment deficiencies by the California Highway Patrol, according to CHP officer Christian Cracraft.

On Tuesday, Bynum's Porsche 911 was pulled over by the CHP on Interstate 405 near the La Tijera Boulevard exit, Cracraft said. Bynum was cited for driving without a license plate and improper lighting equipment and issued a fix-it ticket, which gives him 60 days to repair the deficiencies.

On Wednesday, Bynum was pulled over again on the 405 and issued a ticket for speeding, Cracraft said. He will have to appear in court in about 60 days.

Bynum's car was spotted last summer stretched across two handicapped parking spaces at a grocery store in Westchester, though he did not receive a ticket.

The Lakers did not immediately respond to a request for a comment on Bynum's citations.

Bynum is slated to make his season debut Saturday against the Denver Nuggets after serving a four-game suspension for committing a flagrant foul against Jose Barea in last season's playoffs.
Some commentary...http://lakersblog.latimes.com/lakersblog/2011/12/andrew-bynum-remains-immature.html

Just as he's serving punishment for acting in an immature manner, Lakers center Andrew Bynum provided another example that indicates he still hasn't grown up.

He was pulled over twice in the last two days and cited for speeding and equipment deficiencies by the California Highway Patrol, reported The Times' Ben Bolch, so it's likely he'll enter Saturday's game against Denver fielding questions beyond just his return to the lineup.

OK, so no one should be morally outraged by this. After all, raise your hand if you've never gotten a speeding ticket. Still, this illustrates how Bynum's sense of entitlement remains strong.

He's currently serving a four-game suspension for throwing a forearm at Dallas guard J.J. Barea in Game 4 of the Western Conference semifinals. (Anyone defending his character should consider this happened two other times.) And after clotheslining Barea, Bynum took off his Laker jersey in apathy and offered no apology until two days later.

Bynum's car was also spotted twice last summer parking in handicapped spaces. Anyone looking at that as a petty incident should consider truly handicapped people unable to find a space simply because Bynum wanted to save time running errands.

And then this week brought Bynum and the two separate driving incidents. On Tuesday, Bynum was pulled over by the CHP on the 405 Freeway near the La Tijera Boulevard exit for driving his Porsche 911 without a license plate and improper lighting equipment. On Wednesday, Bynum was pulled over again on the 405 and issued a ticket for speeding. So it's no one's concern but his that Bynum lacks a proper license plate and lighting equipment. But it's surely the Lakers' concern that Bynum's speeding only adds further risk to him possibly suffering another injury again.

Bynum, at age 24, may have matured in some aspects. His conditioning, post moves and dedication have improved. He's tuned in to reading self-help books and meditating. He's eager to try new things, such as learning to speak Spanish this past off-season. But as far as practical, off-court matters, Bynum clearly has lots to learn. And if his recent behind-the-wheel incidents are any indication, he still has a long way to go.
Cue tim's sanctimonious prose...

So what are we thinking in here, Knicks by 30?
You want to have another bet? Just on tonight's game?
Depends, what are we talking here? Be careful Tim, don't let your myopic love of the Purple and Gold cost your kids a first rate UCI college education.
$20 straight up?
Confirmed! $20 straight up! I'll start your tab...
Tell you what, why don't I start yours instead? You don't need to pay me now. You can simply pay me $80 at the end of the regular season.

It's crazy, the Lakers are actually moving their feet on defense.

Kobe's going to break the scoring record if he stays healthy, isn't he?

No, because Bynum's return should be less shots for Kobe. This could be the year Bynum establishes himself as a 20 and 10 guy.

This would be good for my fantasy team, but I'll just take a year without injuries. #probablynot

Not sure he has another 10k in him to pass Kareem. That's 5 more seasons at 25 ppg. But I think it's going to be a lot closer than the people on this board who are already writing his obituary. He'll pass Shaq to move into 5th place all time in 25 games. He'll remain in 5th until the 2013-14 season, where he'll pass both Wilt and Jordan to move into 3rd all time. It's absolutely hilarious to think many on this board called him a glorified Allen Iverson back in '04 and '05 when the Lakers were rebuilding. The Kobe hate is the strongest kool-aid in sports.

Congrats on your $20 win Tim. I just want to say I can't believe how horrible NY was/is last night, even the guys on TNT were saying they couldn't believe what they were seeing in regards to NY offense. I'll keep "spouting" my bs because I know the Lakers are a 5th seed at best.I know I'll get plenty of opportunities to win my money back plus.

Anytime you'd like to bet Knicks/Lakers in Staples straight up while Kobe is still playing, please PM me and I'll take as much action as you're willing to offer.

Will do. The Knicks team that was playing last night was horrible and I can tell from Dantoni just sitting on the sidelines last night that he must be treating the first two weeks as preseason or the team is uncoachable.

The problem with the Knicks is they don't have the personnel to play D'antoni's style. They don't have a true PG, at least not until BD is healthy, and none of their "stars" are known for their passing either. This team is a train wreck and, if they want to build around Amare, Melo, and Chandler they're going to need to get a new coach. A PG would help too.

The Lakers have had what, 4-5 practices under their new coach, running an entirely different system, while integrating several new pieces into the rotation. Can you imagine how ugly it would have been if Bynum had played last night?

:goodposting: It's not like the Lakers had a secret training camp while everyone else was locked out. I would suspect that the Lakers, injured, old core, missing their starting center, integrating lots of new and young players, implementing a new system etc, would probably be the team at a disadvantage.Lakers are gonna be a much better squad as the season goes on. 5th seed is a ridiculous call...

I've been a Laker fan for over 30 years, and I still can't find what they smoke.
Logged 30 years as well and still wondering the same thing...always entertaining though.
Delusional Laker fans are worse.

You're probably right. I just don't see him willingly retiring until he has the record, or no one will give him a job. He's playing good ball right now. I was at the game last night and I think the wrist is bothering him more than he's admitting. He's flexing his right hand constantly when he doesn't have the ball.

Nice win against Denver.

Bynum just huge out there today. Man against boys. Just a question of health with him now.

Galinari? Know he's slumping but I don't get how he's considered much more then an average starter. Lumbering slow release. Don't see it.

What a game!!!

Andrew Bynum with possibly the best game of his career, what an outstanding debut to his season. He was just a total beast out there.

Kobe shot poorly but still had 17, 10, and 9. Going to be tough to sweep the Nuggets tomorrow in Denver, should be another great game.

Bynum stays healthy for a month and puts up monster numbers - you're telling me Otis Smith won't come calling knowing that rebuilding with Bynum is worth far more than 3-4 more months of Howard?

Just stay healthy Drew.

Not if the Magic stay 2nd or 3rd in the east. And I don't think a month of healthy Bynum is conclusive evidence of anything.

Think it's going to be boom or bust. Bynum stays healthy and he goes to Orlando. Gets hurt? Lakers screwed on both fronts.I've been of the opinion that you give up Bynum and Gasol for Howard if necessary. But now leaning towards Bynum only. Think you go for the upside (keeping Gasol) and try to force Orlando's hand.

Bynum was so good with his offensive moves and footwork. He'll never be the beast at both ends of the floor at the level of Howard. But Howard will never have the offensive skills of Bynum. I still think you have to make the trade because of Howard's better motor and being unbreakable, but there's no Bynum + Gasol. Bynum is the best player Orlando can get. The most the Lakers should add into the deal is Ebanks.

Agreed. Bynum looked incredible today.

Yep. It's only the knees that have kept Bynum from being a dominate, top 10 NBA superstar. With healthy knees the Lakers wouldn't even consider trading him. He's so much bigger, stronger, and more fundamentally and physically skilled (great hands) than almost every other center in the league.I hope he remains relatively healthy for the remainder of his career, whether it's in purple/gold or blue/white. It will be funny watching Cappy transform from big Bynum critic to superfan after he gets the opportunity to watch him for a couple months. The upside is so huge with Bynum.

I couldn't believe Bynum's catch of Kobe's pass on the first play of the game. It didn't lead to points, but I don't think any other player in the game would have caught that.

The lob where Kobe was wide open, and passed it to Bynum was great. Bynum landed on the back of Nene, then hard on one foot(the leg with the brace). Hopefully he's behind his knee problems for good.

Lots of talk about Bynum here, but we have to discuss Josh McRoberts as well. I am falling in love with this guy, because of how hard he works on both sides of the court. Another genius pick up by Mitch.

Loved him with the Pacers, thought it was a great pick up.Heard a great nickname for him: McRambis.
