I am also glad teams didn't reach for Kendall Hunter. I know folks like him, but I think Hunter, Rodgers, and Lewis are talents who could become starters in the right system,
I think teams are getting a steal with Rodgers. I think the guy will have a fantasy Top 10 RB season or two. I question whether Lewis will last long in the league, but very few RB's in the league right now have his quicks changing direction. Could make an impact perhaps as a COP back.Kendall Hunter just seems like someone the Skins will take. (Which I think vaults him into the Top 6-7 rookie picks)
top=smart pick or top=ff performance in 2011 of rooks?

had to DVR the second half of Friday Night.

Thoughts:

1) Demarco Murray is average to me, will never be a superstar RB but I could see him having a few solid, unspectacular years in big D

2) I really was not a fan of this years WR or TE class...wouldn't be surprised if most of the WRs taken Friday night are busts

3) The Pats keep it interesting and I love them for that. Obviously like the Mallet pick, but hate the RB picks although Vereen will definitely have flashes, just not enough of them.

4) The O linemen, RBs and D linemen will prove to be the value plays of this draft.

5) Thomas and Williams will prove to be great value plays for both NFL and fantasy purposes. I like Williams so much I wont be surprised if he has a Cadillac Williams type of rookie year. He is easily the most talented RB on the roster IMHO. As a Cards fan I couldn't be happier with him on the roster. Been in love with this kid's NFL ready moves since I first saw him. Just a great instinctive runner. His intangibles are great too...I don't see anything getting in the way of this kid's success.

6) Kendricks may fly under the radar due to his average athleticism, but because of opportunity I suspect he may be undervalued in PPR leagues.

Torrey Smith with nice upside as a Raven, potential to be their #1 in a few years. Don't like the player as much as some guys still on the board, but situation is terrific long term.
Potential is there for sure, but I think he's a bit too much of a body-catcher. He can take the top off of the defense, but is his route running strong enough? I tend to see DHB 2.0.
Don't see that, GB. Smith may not pan out, but he's a different player than DHB. Bey was basically a track guy in pads. Smith is much more of a "football player". He'll fight for the ball where DHB would shy away from contact. He needs a bit of work on his catching techniques, but he's got some great guys to learn from (Mason, Boldin, Heap). IMO, the only reason he gets compared to DHB is because he went to Maryland. He's a good, smart, hardworking kid from a terrible background who graduated in 3 years and was very productive in a horrid passing game. And he's a very, very good return guy.I thought the Ravens would go LB here, but I like the pick and Smith has to be thrilled playing so close to home.

I like the Ravens, so I'll be glad to be wrong here, but I do see an unpolished wideout who stretches the field well but tends to catch the ball more with his body than his hands. Sorry for the obvious comparisons to DHB - wasn't speaking of work ethic, just speed, route-running and hands - but I'll admit that I haven't seen as much of him as others have. Just saying what I see.

It's all good, Jeff. I'm not near the talent evaluator you guys are. I just think his weaknesses are fixable with his seeming desire to do well. Until last year, he played with a bunch of popgun-armed QBs who also were horribly inacurate and last year he was playing with a F QB (btw, I think QB Danny O'Brien is gonna be a good one).

If Virgil Green ends up in a good situation he could jump into the top 20 of rookie drafts

No Taiwan Jones?
Jones is a good one too. Not going to remember everyone. I will say that I want to see Jones run between the tackles before I get truly excited about him.

Agreed, and sorry about the TJones footage. Um, a 12 year old recorded Rob Dyrdek over that whole file (much more than a couple EW games). lolHe is pretty fearless in traffic. We'll see.I'd like to hear more about your high ranking of DMurray. I'm ok with the pick, wish they were beefing up in the middle, but trying to be understanding. Felix, Choice, Barber = overrated.

I've heard great things about O'Brien. We'll see how he does with the former UCONN coach now.

For me is it the RBs (Carter, Hunter, TJones, JWhite, Powell and even a dark horse I like - Darren Evans from Va Tech.

No worries :)I like Murray because as a junior and senior (BTW-Da'Norris Searcy to Buffalo...very nice) he really matured in terms of learning to press a hole as well as not attempt the high-risk cutbacks that were a huge part of his game early in his career. I loved that he could get yards after contact with good technique and he often did so while playing hurt. The injuries were an obvious concern, but they weren't the type that lead to degenerative conditions (muscle pulls, dislocation, etc.) I like that this kid is training with MMA folks to get in better condition, which will include flexibility. I think he's a smart player and though he didn't blow people away last year and the year before like he did with big, highlight reel plays early in his career I think he still has that capability of doing so. Now that he's drafted, I can say this and not feel like I was revealing anything I shouldn't when I go to an event at the Senior Bowl. I was standing next to Earnest Byner and Sam Gash while watching Murray practice and both backs were impressed with Murray. They felt he had the potential to be a thoroughbred in this league and were impressed with his vision, speed and techniques as a runner. Murray also showed a lot of potential as a pass protector. To me Murray has starter potential with breakaway potential like Jones but between the tackles smarts like Choice and the third down reliability that eventually could approach Barber.

Adam Froman isn't even listed on NFL.com's daft tracker. Not a good sign.

Trent Dilfer using Andy Dalton's throwaway play against OSU as an argument for arm strength...hate that. I think Dilfer is a compelling talker on ESPN and I like his opinions even if I disagree with them. I think Dalton can be a starter and I like his anticipation as a deep ball thrower. I wish Dilfer used the anticipation argument on the deep ball over the defending the arm strength tract he took.

Jordan Cameron to Cleveland - very nice pick here. He and Greg Little are two potentially nice red zone options down the line.

Nope. Froman might not get drafted. That's ok. While the Bucs are picking players like Luke Stocker, who lacks starter potential, IMO, guys like Dave Razzano - a former scout with the Cardinals, Rams, and Niners who had the stones to not change his late-round ranking of Alex Smith when the Rams GM tried to pressure him - also has a high opinion of Froman.

Can anyone give the book on Jordan Cameron the TE from USC that the Browns got?

The only thing I have found is he's not a blocker and he only had 12 catches so I'm guessing he's an athlete and they are doing some projecting. After nailing the top needs with the first three picks and with six second-day draft picks they probably feel they can take a flyer or two.

Does he fit Shurmur's West Coast?

Waldman? Bloom? Anyone know about this obscure prospect?

Helu to Washington. That'll impact some rookie thoughts.
runs soft for his size.
I agree. Again, standing there with Byner and Gash and watching Helu consistently raise his pads after contact and worse yet, raise his pads and stop his stride to anticipate contact, it elicited some really damning condemnations of the player. Helu has the physical skills, but I've never seen a back lacking this kind of comfort with hitting and pad level become a good NFL runner. Granted I've only been studying backs this closely for six years, but it's a pretty fundamental thing.

Gates to Dolphins. Good fit for him. They need someone to stretch the field on the other side of Marshall. They have really focused on the offense this off-season so far, as they should.

Trent Dilfer using Andy Dalton's throwaway play against OSU as an argument for arm strength...hate that.
Why?
Because it was a wobbly duck meant to go out of bounds. Dalton said so and it didn't even get out of bounds. It was a desperation throwaway that Kerley did a good job coming back to. There are tons of better plays in Dalton's game to make a better argument that his arm strength is adequate. That was a lazy argument on Dilfer's part.

Helu for Shanahan....Very interesting
It's perfect for Roy. He lacks wiggle, but he can cut and go like mad. He runs strong through tackles with a combo of speed and size, but he does not dominate at the point of attack or have great wiggle. What he lacks is not so important in a Shanny zone scheme. Where he excels really is. I like him because he is very decisive. The anti-Reggie Bush. I have a completely contrarian take on lateral agilities importance in the NFL than most. Helu is a good test of that.

Yep, he's well-ranked in the 2011 Rookie Scouting Portfolio for many reasons Jimmy Graham was. He's a project, but one with enough upside to warrant a pick here. He has soft hands and he adjusts well to the football with probably more compact athleticism than Graham.
