Draft Chat With our Draftniks Matt Waldman and Sigmund Bloom Tonight D (2 Viewers)

Can anyone give the book on Jordan Cameron the TE from USC that the Browns got?The only thing I have found is he's not a blocker and he only had 12 catches so I'm guessing he's an athlete and they are doing some projecting. After nailing the top needs with the first three picks and with six second-day draft picks they probably feel they can take a flyer or two.Does he fit Shurmur's West Coast?Waldman? Bloom? Anyone know about this obscure prospect?
He's not that obscure. He was supposed to go about now. Very athletic guy, former baskeballer (lots of TE talk of basketball to football transition ever since Gates has done well and several since, like Gonzalez). As you'd expect, good size and leaping ability with receiving more of his role than blocking. Good prospect and he could become the main TE guy in a year or two for the Browns.

Yep, he's well-ranked in the 2011 Rookie Scouting Portfolio for many reasons Jimmy Graham was. He's a project, but one with enough upside to warrant a pick here. He has soft hands and he adjusts well to the football with probably more compact athleticism than Graham.
Wow, thanks Matt! The Browns after getting a 230lb WR in Greg Little come back to get a 254lb TE with soft hands. Should pair nicely with Evan Moore and Ben Gates in a short passing game but with some big guys who will be able to muscle smaller DBs and outrun slower/bulkier LBers.Fits Colt who is very accurate and places the ball extremely well in the short game.

Helu for Shanahan....Very interesting
It's perfect for Roy. He lacks wiggle, but he can cut and go like mad. He runs strong through tackles with a combo of speed and size, but he does not dominate at the point of attack or have great wiggle. What he lacks is not so important in a Shanny zone scheme. Where he excels really is. I like him because he is very decisive. The anti-Reggie Bush. I have a completely contrarian take on lateral agilities importance in the NFL than most. Helu is a good test of that.
Always scary to draft a Shanahan RB because you don't know how long the shelf life is...but at some point Helu will step in and be a bigtime contributor for them. There's a case that he could be one of the 3 or 4 most productive RB's that come out of this draft in 2011, as he only has UDFA's in front of him.

Nice argument about option play for Newton although I can't see how Newton will keep coordinators up at night until he can throw and process well enough to make him multidimensional.

A quick look at David Arkin makes me like the pick for Dallas. He's a run blocker with tackle athleticism being moved to guard. That is frequently a good OL recipe in later rounds. I am oddly liking a Dallas draft for a change.

Hunter is the new handcuff for Gore.
This confirms Dixon is going to be a FB with that weight gain and a way to get him on the field to use with Gore/Hunter. Still feel Dixon could have been a nice starter in this league, but I think his value goes down unless Gore can't get healthy. I think Gore will be healthy though. Kind of like Checkwa to Raiders. Rams and Salas - great pick for Bradford here. This guy could eventually be a 70-80 catch player.

Salas is a poorman's Michael Irvin more than an Austin Collie. Overlook the pigmentation-oriented comparisons. I agree with Dilfer that Salas is vastly better than Pettis as an overall player (routes, speed, skills after catch).

Don't know much about Cecil Shorts, but there's the guy to challenge Dillard and Thomas for the second outside spot opposite Jason Hill.

anything to Brandt's remark that the Rams could move him to RB? He said the Rams need a RB , he feels Salas could switch to rb. Pure specularion on his part but is this possible or crazy talk?

Love Mathews to Philly. LOVE IT.
Yep. Might be best WLB they've had in some time. Certainly projects well as a potential flow and chase every down player with some cover and blitz skill. Will threaten Jamar Chaney for subpackage snaps -- assuming it's Bradley at SLB and Chaney inside -- if the Eagles use less dime this year.

Really? That blows my mind...Carter to Indy - That's my pick right there. This guy is going to be Frank Gore to Donald Brown's Kevan Barlow. What a steal...Carter is one of the better inside runners in this draft and he will run the heck out of that stretch play. This might be one of the better situations for Carter to land with Addai probably on his way out and Brown not impressing. LOVE this pick.

Just out of curiosity, what gives you the feeling Dixon goes to FB? I kind of take this as the Niners finally setting up to dip their toes in the water of a true two back system going into the future with Dixon being the thunder to perhaps Hunter's lightning.

Colts take Delone Carter. That one is very interesting.
I always wondered how good Carter would be if he didn't suffer those serious injuries. I think as he gets further away from those injuries, the better he will be. I really like the pick for the Colts.

I think I noticed him more in the bowl games last year (2010 bowls) - like him. Amazing amount of talent that the Rams have if they could all get healthy. Why did the Eagles draft a kicker???

Might regret this in a couple of years, but I believe if Carter stays healthy and in Indy, he'll have a better career than Daniel Thomas and Mikel LeShoure in this spot.

The guy for Philly was K/P....is he a legit talent at BOTH? If he is, I can see it, if not..........

Dixon did an interview where he said he's bulking up to FB type weight. Speculation has been rampant since then that he is moving to FB.

Love carter here. under the radar guy because syracuse has been dead, solid Rb across the board.

Alex Henery is the man. Okay, maybe that's going a little far, but I watched him in college and man he is one impressive kicker for the college level.

I'm at my Ds lacrosse game listening to the draft on my iphone. On the sirius nfl before the Rams pick they talked of Rams needing to add a RB. After the Salas pick Gil Brandt said he felt Salas could play RB & speculated if thats their intention. His remark surprised me

Good analysis by Dilfer on Cecil Shorts about technique. I think the window explanation is very nice way to show that to the general public.

Taiwan Jones to Raiders...how fitting.

Jets and Bilal Powell...don't like the landing spot short term, but love the what he'll do with an opportunity behind that offensive line. He's a great mid-round dynasty pick at this point. Ultimate patience play here with great upside. Joe McKnight just went the way of Jordan McKnight.

I think Powell will make Shonn Greene look bad if Greene doesn't consistently work at his game. Love Powell the player and I think Coach Ryan is going to love him.
