Draft day traditions (1 Viewer)

the next level

At long last we can start making more specific draft day plans. I am trolling here for live draft event ideas. We always have great turnout for our live event and I want to keep it that way. We already augment the event with several rituals to spice things up. A couple of our traditions include a ceremony for the new champ with a quick review of his season and decorating the room with photos (including pictures of our old draft boards) from previous drafts. We also wait until draft day to declare keepers and to draw nomination order numbers for the auction. Plus the auctioneer is always an outsider. Finally, we keep it interesting with drinking penalties for rule violations and other "fouls" such as being first to draft a kicker and first to draft a rookie. Oh I also order the biggest draft board with the biggest stickers available every year. It's worth the extra money.

Would love to make some new additions to the ceremony. Thanks in advance for sharing your own customs.

I agree on the biggest draft board you can find.

I have my friend bring in his large smoker, cooking low and slow so it is right behind us the entire draft.

Shots for first rookie and first kicker is a good idea.

Might I suggest a "finish what you got" penalty for every person that asks, "Has (insert name) been picked yet?" or even a greater penalty of chugging a full drink if they actually try to pick a player who isn't available. We also like to bring a variety of food items to the dance, lots of smoked goods, buffalo chicken dip, homemade bruscetta, among others. We pretty much go all out like most do, except I like to get hands on and make my draft board with a science fair cardboard and yard stick. It makes me feel like a FF Bob Vila.

That must be fun

Its pretty much the best day of the year, 2 years ago I made it known that my pregnant fiancee was NOT to have the baby on draft day. We drafted on Saturday, woke up Sunday hungover and she was in labor, came home and did an online draft on Tuesday. This silly game ruined my life.
