Draft Dominator and QB's (1 Viewer)

Question - I am using Draft Dominator in a 12 team league that I am in for the first time. We start 2 QB's in this league. I have set up DD giving it this knowledge - how well does it account for 2 QB scoring (passing and rushing TD's worth 6, no penalty for INT's, 1 pt for every 20 yards passing)?

If you set it up right by entering the right scoring and starting parameters it will make the adjustment.
Cool - the reason I ask is the thread about 2 starting QB's causing crazy early runs on QB's has me wondering if it recognizes unusual runs - first time using this software....but psyched about it - it seems great.

I do not necessarily agree that DD will steer you correctly. I play in a ten team league with 2QB's as starters. The problem is (and I have wanted to post this in the DD forum) that the QB runs DO occur. Since you have to start two QB's, you at a bare minimum need two to start. At another bare minimum, you need a backup to cover BYE weeks. And all of this without accounting for injuries during the season. There are only 32 starting QB's in the NFL, but 2 X 12 is already 24 of those QB's. So already, at least 4 teams will not have a backup. The problem with DD is that I do not think it differentiates between backups and starters. I found that when drafting through DD recommendations, that it continually recommended RB's because DD considered this to be value as everyone was taking QB's. I would see how the draft went and have a set number of QB's that have left the board before you take your first one, second one, third one, etc.... You might even want to hoard QB's to make trades later to guys who were clueless to all of this. You'd be surprised at the quality of RB or WR you could get just because of supply and demand here. You need to start deviating from DD anyway after around the 9th or 10th round (or sooner) for lineup considerations.

Sounds like good advice - I think I may be deviating even earlier though, as this league has been in existence with these rules for 8 years, and these guys know the value of QB's.While I am on the subject, this league awards 12 points for TD passes over 49 Yards. Is there anywhere on the site that will show stat splits like that?

DD just does what you tell it to do. If you're in a 2-QB league, you almost certainly want to change the baseline setting away from "Joe's Secret Formula," which is the default; if you change it to worst starter, your QB VBD numbers will be compared to the #24 QB, which should give pretty high numbers for QBs throughout the draft. One problem with using very low baselines like QB24 is that projections for bottom-tier players are always inflated. Right now the #24 QB by FBG projections is Mark Brunell, who is projected to put up 3112 yards and 21 TDs; in actuality, the #24 QB last year was Trent Dilfer, who put up 2321 yards and 11 TDs. So the difference between the baseline and good QBs is understated by measuring VBD based on those projections; you may have to do more projection tweaking to use VBD directly. The same phenomenon occurs at other positions, but not as dramatically: the #24 RB, M.Bell, is projected to do 1140 total yards and 8 TDs, while the actual #24 RB last year (Foster) put up 1240/3; the #36 WR is projected to do 806/5, while #36 WR last year (Lloyd) put up 733/5. So the FBG projections, unless you tweak them, will undervalue QBs.

Try the Data Dominator.I looked at 2004-2005, QBs who through for TDs from between their own goal line and the Own 49 (so I miss a 50 yarder, sorry). That was as close as I could get.

If you use DD for 2 QB leagues, you need to be sure to manually go in and change the ADP files to reflect that. The default ADP for DD is for 1 QB leagues. The problem is that you are in this league for the first time, so you have no historical data as to how the league drafts. It's not a huge deal, but without proper ADP you really won't be able to use the "Best Value Pick" window.

Thanks for the help guys. I'll let you know how it goes....draft is next Monday night (which gives me time to run a couple mocks).
