Draft Strategy (1 Viewer)

I have a question for some of you gurus out there, I have the 6th pick in a 11 team draft (12th owner was fired!) Everyone knows who the first 3 picks are so I assuming I'm looking at tiki, portis, or James but here's my question. By the top 3 being so dominant is it safe to assume I'll be starting in chase mode right from the get go?? I guess what i'm saying is according to my projections these top 3 have a pretty sizeable lead on the rest of the pack so by not getting 1 of these big 3 I start out in the hole so it seems to me that the only true way to catch the people who are lucky enough to be in the top 3 ( and 2 of those owners are in my division) is to find the way to beat them at another position, and I right in thinking this way?? I believe I have to find a way to be competetive with them at the rb position at the same time I need to get an advantage at all of the other positions just to make up the difference.

You want to be careful in that thinking, because you taking a stud WR here may give you a better receiver, but your RB in comparison to his/hers will be quite a bit worse. My theory is don't worry about the other owners right now, just worry about making the best team possible for you right now. There are so many factors that can come into play in the future, but you can't predict these.

If you can't predict certain factors why would you even waste time doing projections?? I know I'll go Running back in the first rd because that is the position that will have the biggest drop off before I pick again, but the question is if I have a pretty good draft and maximize value with each pick and the top 3 has a decent draft really I'll still be behind?? Maybe i'm thinking too much into this but how do you make up the difference?? I'm usually pretty good at drafting i've made the playoffs for 6 cosecutive yrs with 2 championship losses. This is just something that's been on my mind.

I agree with Browns. There are factors like injuries that you just can't predict. Don't worry about playing catch up, just make the best team you can. It's not like the top 3 picks will be the only competitive teams.

Alot of people on here have Portis in their top 3, so I'm not sure the gap is quite as big as you think it is.
