Drafting from 10, 11, or 12 (1 Viewer)

I've been doing a bunch of mocks over the last week, and cannot crack the code on how to field a good team from the bottom quarter. You wind up with a seriously questionable #1 back (I'm not a Maroney fan as a #1), overpay for your #2 RB or your #1WR, and can only grab a decent #2 RB or WR if you're really lucky. For those of you that have drafted from here, how have you worked it out?

Why are you so angry. I thought you would like to see a solid team from the 12 Hole. WTF is your problemo?

2.01, Willie Parker

3.10, Cadillac Williams

4.01, Lee Evans

5.10, Marc Bulger

6.01, Braylon Edwards

7.10, Julius Jones

8.01, Chris Cooley

9.10, Jerry Porter

10.01, Warrick Dunn (today's news sucks)

11.10, Miami Def

12.01, Chris Brown

13.10, Brett Favre

14.01, Dallas Clark

15.10, Robbie Gould

16.01, Dwayne Bowe

17.10, J.P. Losman

18.01, Troy Williamson

QBs - Bulger, Farve, Losman

RBs - FWP, Caddy, J.Jones, Dunn, Chris Brown

WR - Chad Johnson, Lee Evans, B. Edwards, Porter, Bowe, Williamson

TE - Cooley, Clark

K - Gould

D/ST - Miami

I had a tough time on this draft, partly due to not being able to trade during the draft. Very hard to gauge the runs with 18 picks between the turns. Would have been even tougher in a 12 teamer this year.

I've dealt with it by mainly drafting Manning. It hurts a bit to go qb so early but he's near the top in scoring every year- dependable and durable. I was able to get him and Parker in one league and then get Walker as wr1. In another league (keeper) I took Bush and Drew and looked for wr later ( I ended up trading up and giving Bush for Norwood and the Pats D, we'll see how dumb or brilliant that was). I also pulled the trigger a bit early and took Brady- in for a huge year. Thomas Jones is another guy I like as a rb2. I see plenty of ways to go and even think it can be a position of strength.

Wow. Willie at 10/11 is later than I would have expected.
no doubt. would love to see who got picked before him.
It is a 2 QB league, so that factors in. Still, Parker was the 9th RB and Peyton may go ahead of Parker in some leagues anyway.1.01 Bolts - Tomlinson1.02 Pfeilspitze - Larry Johnson1.03 Jets - Stephen Jackson1.04 Buccaneers - Frank Gore1.05 Hoff's - Peyton Manning1.06 BMH - Brian Westbrook1.07 Canton Legends - Shaun Alexander1.08 Warren Mavericks - Rudi Johnson1.09 Nacho Nacho Man - Carson Palmer1.10 Airmen - Joseph Addai1.11 OZ - Willie ParkerFWIW, Reggie Bush was #12 and this is PPR. You may disagree with some of the picks, but they aren't horrible IMO.

Nope, not horrible...but that extra pick for Palmer makes all the difference in the world.

Thx, Oz. Interesting that he went same place in donkey's league, too, though. Sometimes I've done drafts where I got players later than I dreamed of and sometimes wonder if I got lucky or am just a victim of FBG groupthink. :lmao:

I recently did a mock draft where I picked 10/10. My 1st 3 picks were Maroney, Bush, and T.O., I don't remember the rest of my team. I would be happy with those 3 if I picked 10 in my league.

thx, donkey. the only surprise to me there is rudi going ahead of willie; i like westbrook at 8, too, but some people just don't want to spend every Sun morning hanging around to find out if he's playing. :tinfoilhat:

those backs will not make for a playoff run IMO..looksm lile the 4th round pick should have been best RB avaialbe instead of Evans or Driver

I have become a believer. Will be drafting using it for the first time in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to it.I am really curious to find out if this will be a flash in the pan drafting style? Will regular snake still be the norm 5 years from now?

Most owners in my league that originaly did it, have stopped doing many other drafts that dont use it. Most of those extra leagues that contain our owners have also switched over the past couple years.

That leads me to believe it is here to stay. Simply because those introduced to it, never vote to undo the Banzai method once it's applied.

I seemed to have missed something. What the heck is the Banzai method? Nevermind. I just found the info. The league that I'm in has done something that I haven't really done before. We've been doing it for the past 14 years. We pull a new draft order for other odd round and we just serpentine for the even rounds. For example, this year I have the 9th pick in the 1st and then 4th pick in the second, just like a normal serpentine draft. However, in the third round I have the first pick and therefore I have the last pick in the 4th. And it switches up again in the fifth. We continue this method through all 18 rounds. We've found this to be the most random and fair way of balancing out the draft. Anyone else do something similar?

lol @ "suxor"

Yet another reason to go auction draft. GB none of that "I got a sucky draft spot" whining

I think it's a good spot to be drafting from actually if you can't get in the top 3.

Looking at ant sports, 12th player is Travis Henry, I'd be happy with that. At the turn I'd probably take Portis though his ADP is 2.09. I don't take QBs early and I'd rather have an RB there and deal with WR later, and I like him better than James, McGahee and Ronnie Brown. The tough call for me is Portis vs. Jones-Drew. I could go either way with that.

But regardless starting with Henry and either Portis or Jones-Drew looks fine to me.

There are opportunities at every draft spot.

I've mocked those slots quite a bit too and it's funny...

I'm usually not happy with my starting RBs when I go RB/RB at 1/2 since

I feel like I missed the last RB in the tier my 1st pick and I'm overpaying

for the RB with my 2nd pick.

But I'm VERY happy with the WRs I get with my 3rd and 4th picks.

Usually a combo of Driver/Evans/Housh/Walker/Colston, who are

all in my top 12.

The mocks I've done drafting a WR in the 1st or 2nd round don't

leave me feeling great cuz, like I said above, I feel like I can get

2 really good WRs at my 3/4 picks, making me want to grab RBs

with my 1st 2 picks.

I hope pre-season clears up some issues on a couple of guys so I can

expand my list of RB1's that I'd be comfortable with.

True, but if the thread is about the 10, 11, or 12 slots, we're talking FWP, Bush, or Henry. Not bad IMO although certainly not on the same level as LT or SJax. You could make the argument that these 3 could finish 3-5 in PPR.ETA: no, this league is not in Cincinnati, although we have one Ohio native

why? I cant play AJ, Braylon and Vincent Jackson every week and win with them? Sure i can and i will. You guys dont get it yet. Welker is far and away Bradys favoirte wide out and will go for 75 catches this year..thats my 4th Wr but will liekly start lots of weeks...I am very high on the rookies Gonzalas'shances this eyar and Wade in the slot now in minny as there #1 pass option will be just fine as a sixth wr not to emntion Hass favorite target Engram with no Djack there and this beign a ppr...and I have Henry coming back week 8 to play for me if needed...i see the next poster says ya think while laughing at me? Well please guys you should think about how much work a drafter may put into his picks and how well he has feared in the past before you spout off and start laughing at him...we can re visit this later in the year but if thats your opinion..then good luck...you really dont think i can't win with this team and these WR's? Please post a roster of a team you might draft from the 10-11-12 hole please.. I will be very interested to see how it stacks up compared to mine.

:bag: that carson palmer pick really screwed the pooch
doubt it.but can understand why you would think so..i ususally do not take a QB at that spot but am just very very high on Palmers chances(imo he has his biggest and best bust out year) and think getting a top 5 QB this year is an advantage. That being said if i knew I could have gotten Cutler and Garcia were I did i may have filled in a stud WR with that pick. I do wish there was trading allowed tho..ok enough i did not post my team in order to be ridiculed..i was just showing what the poster asked for..there was no need to mock my picks like this..jeez..is this what this board is all about?

RB/RB/WR looks very appealing to me from 10/11/12.

I personally see some ENORMOUS value at RBs available in the late 1st and early 2nd round. Guys like Travis Henry, who everyone is avoiding for some reason. Clinton Portis because people are afraid of Ladell "250 carries, 4 TD" Betts. Hell, even a guy like Ronnie Brown who can run, catch, and score and is going to be available every single time in the 2nd round when I pick. Meanwhile, we see people reach on rookie wonders MJD and Bush. Is that why it's bad to have a late pick? Some people will count themselves lucky to play it safe and grab Rudi, not me. You want a 5 pick so you can swing for the fences on a guy like Addai who we know very little about? Be my guest.

And in the late third, there is value left at WR. There are a whole lot of WRs worth taking in the 2nd and 3rd rounds people. I had a draft recently where I ended up with TO at 3.10 as WR9. Could not freaking believe it. Would have been happy to land Roy Williams there, but he went the pick before TO. Did I mind that I had to "settle" for the #1 WR on my board instead of the #6 WR? Hell, no. But I even if TO wasn't there, I could have taken my #5 WR there. Andre Johnson went with the 4.1.

Where you pick in the 1st round is not the end of the world.

The end of the world? No of course not.

But if I was drafting against 11 other savvy FBGs in a 12 team league and had a late pick, I would be fully aware that I had better kick ### in the middle/late rounds if I want to have a shot. The data don't lie.

Just drafted this team from the 11th spot over at No Mercy. Not thrilled with it, but think it can be very competitive with explosive potential. I took Bush early, but didn't think he would be there in second round. I think Reggie has explosion written all over him. I like the McGahee pick. Reached for Brady also, but wanted a QB that I could rely on. I think Brady and Bush floors are just what they did last year, which is not bad, but their ceilings are tremendous. I like Housh as my No. 1, I think he is way under the radar. Taylor was a steal as a RB3, he is going to do just what he did last year at least, and possibly more with teams preparing more for MJD. I also think Chambers was a steal. I think Cotchery is way under rated also. It's the rest of the draft that I'm not thrilled with.

Portis just went at 3.08 in a WCOFF Satellite tonight, bottom line is that every draft is different and crazy picks happen in each round that let players slide. I see it in every draft every year.
