Drafting from the 10 Spot (1 Viewer)

Assume 10 team league start - 1 qb, 2 rb, 3 wr, 1 te, 1 flex, 1 k, 1 def

Chris Smith's article talks about the last spot (although he discusses a 12 team league). He says the advantages are:

" this owner has the luxury of going down many different paths and all of them can bring fantasy success to this owner. While not landing a stud running back, this owner can get perhaps the best starting duo with two of the thirteen running backs available. Or this owner can look at going stud receiver and taking two of the top players at that position, hoping to land viable starting running backs later on. Or if Peyton Manning falls to them here, picking him up with the final selection of the first round would be a major victory for this team looking for value to make up ground on the fortunate owners at the start of round one."

First off no way Peyton falls IMO, at least in my league.

I assume that these players will most likely be available at 10

WRs - The top 3 should still be on the board = Steve Smith, Chad Johnson, TO

RBs - I am having trouble figuring out who is going to be there, but definitely know LJ,LT,SA,Portis,Tiki, Sjax are gone. The next rb's are Lamont,Rudi,Ronnie,Edge,Caddy.

I've done a few mock drafts and tried the WR/WR combo but I am very unhappy down the road ending up with Kevin Jones and Jamal Lewis in my backfield.

I've gone Rudi Johnson/Steve Smith and have seemed to like this method somewhat, but definitely not loving it...

Finally, I've tried the two rb attack as well and ended up with some combo of Rudi/Edge/Ronnie B. This method seems to be my favorite but thats just cause I like to secure 2 top Rb's... I feel like I am not taking advantage of the position though (I feel I should grab #1 WR here).

Anyway enough from me....

So what are people planning for their first two picks at 1.10 and 2.1???

I'm drafting from 11spot in a 12 team draft and I intend on going RB/RB ONLY if the second back is what I consider to be top shelf (meaning a back that isn't going to perform at basically the same level as a back I can pick up in the 3rd) If I can't get what I feel is a top notch RB I'm going WR all the way in Rd 2 and pick up my other RBs in Rd 3 and 5.

I'm at 10 in a 10 team league as well. After doing some mock drafts and looking at ADP, I plan on going Rd 1 - RB, Rd 2 - RB, Rd 3 - WR, not sure about Rd 4....prob. best RB or WR available.

My bigger question is which two RBs. Early recon has my league going:

1 LJ

2 Alexander

3 LT

4 Edge

5 Portis

6 Tiki

7 Ronnie

8 Jordan or Jackson

9 Jordan or Jackson or Rudi

10 Here is my dilemma. 1 pt per reception league. I'm thinking Caddy, Rudi, Jordan or Jackson.

Rd2

11 No clue.

Is there much difference betwen the #6 RB and the #16 RB this year? If you are in a "guppy" league (as described in a recent freelance FBG article) - and guys like Chester Taylor and Droughns fall to the 4th and 5th round (in my league that basically happens every year) - isn't it wise for the guy at the end of the first round to take the top WR left with the #10 or #11 pick.

I’m actually drafting from the 10 spot in both of my 10-man leagues. In all honesty, if I’m not drafting #1-3, then #10 would be my next choice.

I’ve played around with every possible scenario, and here are a handful of my favorite drafts:

#1 (through 8 rounds):

QB Eli Manning 8.01

RB Ronnie Brown 1.10

RB LaMont Jordan 2.01

RB Joseph Addai 6.01

RB Dominic Rhodes 7.10

WR Randy Moss 3.10

WR Donald Driver 4.01

WR TJ Houshmandzadeh 5.10

#2:

QB Donovan McNabb 7.10

QB Michael Vick 11.10

RB LaMont Jordan 1.10

RB Ronnie Brown 2.01

RB DeShaun Foster 5.10

RB Frank Gore 9.10

RB DeAngelo Williams 10.01

WR Anquan Boldin 3.10

WR Chris Chambers 4.01

WR Javon Walker 6.01

WR Deion Branch 8.01

WR Isaac Bruce 12.01

PK Jason Elam 13.10

PK David Akers 14.01

DT New England Patriots 15.10

DT Miami Dolphins 16.01

#3 (through 8 rounds):

QB Peyton Manning 2.01

RB Rudi Johnson 1.10

RB Willie Parker 3.10

RB Joseph Addai 5.10

RB Dominic Rhodes 6.01

WR Hines Ward 4.01

WR Joey Galloway 7.10

WR Lee Evans 8.01

#4:

QB Daunte Culpepper 8.01

QB Aaron Brooks 11.10

RB Ronnie Brown 1.10

RB Rudi Johnson 2.01

RB Reggie Bush 5.10

RB Sam Gado 9.10

WR Reggie Wayne 3.10

WR Darrell Jackson 4.01

WR Javon Walker 6.01

WR Nate Burleson 7.10

WR Terry Glenn 10.01

WR Isaac Bruce 13.10

PK Adam Vinatieri 12.01

PK Jeff Wilkins 15.10

DT Washington Redskins 14.01

DT Jacksonville Jaguars 16.01

As you can see, I’ve had the most success going RB/RB, but when Peyton is there, QB/RB can work, too. Lots of options from this spot….

Dam, typed up a long note but lost it here at work.

Anyway, I'm toying with WR-WR my 2 guys are there. I think the field is deep in RB this year and it's hard to distinguish much between RB 10-RB20. It's a very risky bet, but will fun to try out. I've never not had an RB with my first 2 picks, so I'll chalk it up as a learning experience.

Drafted #9 in a 12 team PPR league.

Went

Jordan at 1.09

Chad Johnson at 2.04

Droughns at 3.09

Chester Taylor at 4.04

In retrospect, if I had known Taylor would still be there in the 4th, I wouldn't have gone Droughns in the third.

There was a huge WR run in the 2nd - from 2.03 to 2.11 all but 1 picks were WRs.

FYI, there is another thread here about the 10-spot, and it is also for 10-team leagues (mostly). You can find it in that master thread (link) of drafting from different positions, as well. It may be of some help.

i think i just like having that advantage with the #1 and #2 wr's.... going Chad/Steve gives you that advantage every week. Then you are stuck going RB for the next few rounds... I'm not in a guppy league so I prob will be looking at Dunn/Droughns to go along with my wr's.

I think its more exciting to go with the top 2 wr's but in the end I'm not sure I have the ballz to pull it off haha.

In ppr league go Jordan if there. Then come back with Westbrook if he's not gobbled up at the 12 spot. Rounds 3/4 you could go WR/RB/TE (Burress or Santana Moss/Dunn or Heap)Thats a solid crew in ppr leagues.

Hoping to high heaven that someone wants to trade down!

Asking the league to refund entry fee.

or C: taking two young'uns at RB -- SJax and an Auburn back.

I am drafting out of the 9 hole in a 10 team redraft. I was offered the 4 hole for my spot but declined. We must start 3RB so in my opinion the first 2 picks MUST be RB's. I did a few mocks and felt that starting with two of either Ronnie Brown, Rudi or Cadillac was better than Portis and either Jones or McGahee. I really do not want anyone on the Browns, Droughns. I actually like drafting from the 8,9 or 10 hole. You get two great RB's then in the 4th you have a shot at a top 5 WR. In our league typically 22 of the first 27 picks are RB's. And yes WR's and TE's get .5 for each reception and RB's do not.
