Drafting in the 9 Spot (10 team non PPR) (1 Viewer)

I didn't see a 9 spot thread so I thought I would start one. I'm in a 10 team non PPR league. I feel almost forced to go WR/WR or WR/QB at this spot and load up on rb's in rounds 3 -7 in hopes of hitting on a couple decent starters. It's possible that S Jax would be around at the end of rd one but I'll let someone else deal with him. The only rb's I would consider at the 12 spot would be Deangelo Williams, Greene and Mathews but at 12 I still think that is a pretty long reach. Going WR/WR or WR/QB, you are gaurenteed a top qb and wr or two top wr's. The question is will this offset the lack production out of your rb's.

Thoughts?

I tend to agree with you. You're not getting an elite RB at #9, and the drop off in WRs after the mid-to-late 2nd round seems a lot worse than the drop off in RBs.

I just pulled #9 for a 10 team, no PPR league and I'm bummed about it.

I definitely can't pull the trigger on a QB (not enough value, plus only 3 pts per TD, and the top7-8 are just too close and can be had later)

So that leaves WR options and the only ones I like are AJ and Moss in that spot.

Given some insight to the league I may luck out a bit as it very likely in the first 8 picks that 2 QBs and 2 WRs will be gone so I'm left with an option of hopefully Turner, Gore or SJax. I think I'm pretty committed to a RB even if its a bit of a reach. I would be fine with AJ but I think in a non-PPR he is the only WR I really would be OK with. But if I did go WR, I'd have to reach for a RB in the 2nd (Greene, Matthews, Williams, etc) just too far till the draft makes it back (should have sold them on 3rdRR)

The league is RB heavy and I think going WR/WR or WR/QB could leave you in a big hole where you are almost forced to take 4 RBs with you next 4 picks.

I would take a RB for sure in the 1st, then a best WR coming back, in the 3rd go RB/Wr, 4th go WR/RB, 5th go QB, 6th go WR/RB, 7th go TE, 8th go RB/WR

I have done this for no ppr with good results. There is good depth for QB and TE this year. RB has good depth. When I list 2 positions try to get the first but if someone is there that is too good to pass up take them.

At 3 pts per td it would be nuts to waste a 1st or 2nd on a qb. I would be surprised if AJ fell to 9. Moss is who I am targeting in 1. I can always grab brees or Rodgers at 12 or wait and get Romo or Brady in the 3rd (6 pts per td). I just hate to pick a bunch of maybes in the mid rds hoping to hit on a quality rb.The real question is are any of the rb's still available after rd 1 going to produce at the level of the wr's that will be available, and will the wr's in the mid rounds be better than the rb's available there with them.

I have never drafted when I didn't have at least 1 rb coming out of the first 2 rounds. I ussually get 2. This year there are only a few shure things (Johnson, pederson, rice, jones drew, Gore and turner). After that is a huge drop off and the top wr and qb's are just sitting there calling your name.

Ohh, I agree about the QBs but the M.O. of this league is that more than likely 2 QBs will be gone. almost definitely Moss will go to the guy who picks at 8 and AJ could be there. Lucky for me and more of a league specific quirk. There will be some RBs who produce like the WRs but the hard part is guessing which ones.WRs aren't that clear-cut either- check out #4Top 5 last year: Johnson, Austin, Moss, D. Jackson, WayneThe problem is the top producing WRs are almost going to run off the board in the 2nd and 3rd while we wait for that next pick. There more I think about it, I'm surely going RB/WR and then BPA in the 3rd/4th which may be QB/TE (with the TE, I want to start the run, not catch the last guy left)

Not sure I totally agree. SJax has to be considered. I realize his team stinks but there is no other option to run the ball there. He will rack up touches. WR are nice here but in a non-PPR they can't hang with the top backs and now you have to get lucky with later round RBs. I think I'd rather have Grant or DeAngelo than Jennings or Colston
