Dre Bly wants out of Denver (1 Viewer)

Dre' Bly reportedly wants to play for the Redskins, and could force a trade from Denver.

Bly and Washington were negotiating a contract when it looked like he might be traded to Washington. Denver coach Mike Shanahan reportedly likes Shawn Springs and Ladell Betts, so there is a chance trade talks will resume. Bly reportedly agreed to terms on a new deal with Denver, but nothing has been signed.

I'm calling BS on this article.

That "writer" was a POS journalists for the Capitals and it's extended to the Redskins apparently.

Bly has already come out and said that he is excited to play in Denver and looks forward to playing with Champ and others. Not to mention the fact that the Skins just signed Smoot.

La Confora is an idiot. Move along and save your brain cells the agony of dying.

Springs is also FA, is he not? That's why the Skins signed Smoot. Sounds like a bogus report to me, too.

Could be a case of stage fright by Bly. He's always played for a loser and currently it sure looks like the Broncos are on the fast track to the playoffs while the Redskins are going to totally suck again. Maybe he won't be able to handle winning for once.

Or it could be that...HE'S ONLY IN IT FOR THE $.

Here is the full post by La Confora of the Wash Post. I don't know his track record with predictions re: personnel or player forcasts but I think he is far from a POS because as Rascal said he was the beat writer for the Caps and Skins. This is a blog though, not a piece in the Sports section.

Posted at 4:09 PM ET, 03/ 4/2007Dre' Bly wants to be a Skin? That's What I HearNumerous league sources, including several who have spoken with Denver cornerback Dre' Bly, said that the player is miffed that he was dealt to the Broncos last week instead of Washington. As I have reported, the Redskins were deep into trade and subsequent contract talks with Bly - a Detroit Lion at the time - and were dangling cornerback Shawn Springs in discussions with those teams.Springs was coveted by Detroit and Denver, and very open to the possibility of a trade, but the Redskins could not match Denver's offer of two players and a draft pick (the Redskins had no suitable picks in the 2007 draft) and the Lions sent him to the Broncos instead. Once it was clear Bly was going to Denver, the Redskins tried to work out a swap with them, but according to a source, the Redskins asked for cap help deferring the costs of trading Springs ($7.5 million) and Denver refuses (the Broncos did not have a ton of space, either). However, the Broncos have been unwilling to extend Bly's contract, which has one year and $4.2 million remaining. Bly has told numerous other NFL players that Redskins owner Daniel Snyder, in the course of trade talks, was willing to give Bly a new contract including a lucrative signing bonus, and Bly has expressed his concern with remaining a Bronco with several of his new teammates in Denver. He's from Chesapeake, VA, wants to be here and wants that new contract. His agent, Kennard McGuire, initially declined to comment on the matter.Springs, meantime, has ties to the staffs of both Denver and Detroit, and has said he will not take a pay cut to remain a Redskin this season (he is due to make $6.8 million and carries a high $7.3 million cap figure, which the Redskins have been eager to trim). The team approached Springs about taking a salary cut to remain here earlier this offseason, and he refused; his cap figures are huge each of the next three seasons and some team officials have expressed concerns about his age and injury history.Sources close to Springs say he remains unsure about his status with the Redskins despite Coach Joe Gibbs saying repeated that he is "counting on Springs" for next season. Denver Coach Mike Shanahan is a big proponent of Springs's play, according to a source, and the Broncos and Redskins have completed trades in each of the past three years and are among the most aggressive teams in the NFL when it comes to swapping players. The Redskins remain very interested in dropping down from the sixth overall pick to acquire additional selections in this year's draft, and the possibility exists of another deal this offseason involving the cornerbacks and/or draft picks.A trade after June 1 would cost the Redskins just $2.5 million in a cap hit on Springs (with $5 million coming in 2008). Springs is also considering approaching the Redskins about possibility relinquishing several million dollars in deferred payments still owed him in order to facilitate his possible trade or release. Many members of the Redskins staff are thrilled with the possibility of a cornerback trio of Springs, free-agent signing Fred Smoot and youngster Carlos Rogers, but should Bly attempt to force his way out of Denver, the situation bears monitoring, with the huge free agent contracts being thrown around this offseason not going unnoticed by Bly or Springs. So keep an eye on this one folks. I think there is still a chance for more trade talks to resume. The Broncos are also very high on Ladell Betts, and could make a play in that direction as well as they entertain other RB options. Definitely something I will be monitoring.

La Confora has been writing about the Redskins for a year now and he has been pretty good. He does not necessarily say all is well with the Redskins, which previous beat writers have done.By the way, he is not predicting anything here. He is stating that Bly perfers to be with the Redskins. It is not clear if money is his only motivation. And Springs has not been willing to accept a salary cut. So a trade is possible. I also think Denver may be taking a big risk in not signing Bly to an extension. If he does not get what he wants, he will play one year in Denver and become a free agent. Or be franchised and get a huge amount for a 1 year deal.

Wow, these NFL players are getting way too conceited and seflish. It seems more and more frequent that players are trying to force their way to teams of their choice.
Yeah, getting to choose where you work is so selfish.Go get me a beer.

i don't understand why he wouldn't want to play in Denver....

Champ Bailey is giong to make his life easier because he won't have to worry about the other team's number one WR.

did he act like a baby while he was in Detroit?

He signed a contract knowing he could get dealt. Don't come crying to me about being sent to a place you don't like. I'm drinking that beer now.

Yes, and I'm sure if your company decides to move your job to Des Moines, or Bangalore, you'll warmly embrace your new home because, after all, the needs of the corporation are all that matter, right?

Or you can quit. If IBM transfers you somewhere, you can go, or you quit. In this case, the corporation is the NFL. If he doesn't like it, he can quit. Then he can use that 'degree' in 'sports journalism' for the local paper and write about the guy who takes his place for a few million a year. That'll show 'em, won't it?

Is Bly on record as being upset?

Or do we just have this blog-from Washington DC-to go on? And no one else is running with this story? Seems like it'd be a big story.

Some shnook in DC posts something on a freaking blog, and people are looking for a rope to string up Bly. Tap the brakes, boys.

It is completely natural and human to dislike being moved around with no voice in the matter. Obviously, quitting is an option. Do you think it's selfish to dislike being put in a position where you have to decide whether to move somewhere you don't want to go, or quit your job?

Yes, I would and have. They're not all that matter, but they're extremely important.OTOH, anyone who prefers Detroit to Denver is an idiot.

yes, when you enter the league knowing how the business is done.

I blame Carr for Bly's sucktitude.

Didn't the Skins allready cut Springs though?

Somthing is not adding up right unless I am mistaken about Springs being cut.

I'm sure they're glad you feel that way. The feeling is not mutual.

Umm..as an NFL player you better get used to the idea of being moved around.Of course you wouldn't know. How's life in your parents basement?

My employer has been very good to me. I'm not saying they feel anything towards me in particular, but the perks of the profession are good. Not as good as the NFL, but good.I've been to worse places than the NFL is asking Bly to go, he can suck on it with his sense of entitlement. The sorry thing is you seem to feel the same way.But I appreciate your preaching "the world according to CalBear". Does anyone know where I can find this book?

If this is true, I think many are missing the point here. Dre Bly's agent was allowed to work out a deal with Washington when it looked like he was going to be trade to them. The deal was a contract extension that not only added years, but gave him the infamous signing bonus. Denver came in at the last moment and made an offer Washington couldn't trump. Bly thought he was going to Washington, which he's originally from Virginia (where Redskins Park is located) and was securing a contract for his future. Now he's in Denver and supposedly only has this last year on his contract.

So, here you are casting your stones and talking about something you really have no clue about and calling names and talking about being a baby. Many of you here seem to live on a "higher than thou" perch, but are the first people to start crying when a ranking is not released the day the FF site says it's supposed to be coming out. [insert glass house and throwing stones saying] Go get some tucks or Prep H because your tail has to be hurting from talking out of it so much.

Yea, that's what I was thinking when I read it. Bly's home sick, plain and simple. Though DC's about 3-4 hours away it's the closest team to where he's from, maybe even his favorite team growing up. Very unprofessional crying about it though.

Any journalist who posts references to his own writing is suspect to me:

"Numerous league sources, including several who have spoken with Denver cornerback Dre' Bly, said that the player is miffed that he was dealt to the Broncos last week instead of Washington. That's pretty much what I was getting at. I understand if he's unhappy. But he has to understand that the NFL is a business and he's a commodity. A well paid one at that. He can always go home and find himself a new job.

I actually think Bly's issue is primarily about money. The Redskins were negotiating a deal extension with Bly and would probably be around the amount they gave Fred Smoot ($25M, 5 years), maybe more. Denver only wants him for 1 year unless they franchise him (since Bly will obviously go for free agency now).

I don't like athletes not honoring their contracts, but in the NFL, free agency is the only real big pay day. Bly was given permission to discuss contract with Washington and thought he was in line for a new deal. And in the NFL today, if a player complains loud enough, they frequently get their way.

As for the "it's just a blog" objections, most of this information and opinion also appears in a Washington Post article dated today by Howard Bryant and Jason LaCanfora.

I'd bet you can find a writer in 31 cities that say "The Broncos are very high on RB xxxxxxx". I don't buy this at all. Pure speculation - in fact, the whole article is speculation, IMO. I really don't think Shanahan covets Springs, especially at $7M, 32 years old, 2 ints in the past 2 years, and only played in 16 games 3x out of 11 seasons.Maybe Bly wanted to go to Was. Maybe he's feeling some sour grapes because his contract hasn't been re-done. I'll bet that he will have his contract re-done by training camp, and he will be content. This will be a non-issue by September.

Much to my dismay and disbelief (my apologies to the washington post writer)

Just heard on sirus radio about a trade rumor going around:

Denver sends Bly, 21 and 56 to Washington for 6 and Springs.
