Drew Brees Accuracy (1 Viewer)

Not sure if honda or not, but I stumbled across this for the first time the other day thanks to a radio show.

It is sort of long but well worth the watch if you are 1. A Saints Fan or 2. A person that likes bada## stuff an athlete can do.

that's a cool video.

however, it appears Olympic archery competition is from 70 meters, which is approximately 64 yards.

so the accuracy comparison is invalid.

Yeah this is a pretty cool show all around. I saw this the first time it ran, and it is amazing how accurate Brees is....but it is a little misleading. Archers are MUCH further back than Drew Brees is, I think something like 70 meters.

QBs also have to deal with pressure and reading a defense normally as well. However, Archers don't have moving targets.

?? The show isn't about Brees in the middle of a game, he is just trying to hit a stationary target. Don't get me wrong, he is a bad ###, but still....the comparison is pretty silly.

Cool video.However, 70 meters = 76.55 yards.

you are correct. i used the conversion factor the wrong way.i would love to see the results of having a quarter back try to hit a target at 76.55 yards. i would be impressed if they hit the 50% mark they mentioned.

the only reason i even mention this is that the archers would be splitting their own arrows at 20 yards, so they would basically have the same 100% rate that Brees had at that distance.

lol @ people needing to explain what archers do, thus making it "not fair" ...like having a bow and arrow is fair.
who said it was "not fair?" it's just inaccurate. it was an interesting premise that the show put forth, but they didn't really answer the question that they asked.

I agree, there is no way a QB is accurate at 76 yards, and archers will indeed be splitting their arrows at 20 yards.Another way to look at it, though, is to take into account their respective effective ranges. I don't know what an effective range for the archers is, but it is certainly a whole lot farther than a QB's arm. If they are both "shooting" at 1/4 or so of their effective ranges, it sorta kinda levels the playing field.

Or something like that.

What happens if the kid with the apple on his head starts moving around? Does it make it an equal challenge then? :D

I couldn't care less how far away archers are. I agree it's a silly comparison as they are further away. That said, they should have just left them out of the video because what Brees does there is just flat out stupid good. Uncanny accuracy.

Yeah I saw that video a while ago. No matter how you cut it that is extemely impressive for a QB. I'd like to see any other NFL QB accomplish the same, accuracy and a perfect spiral. However to compare it to an Olympic Archer is not comparing apples to apples. Might be nice for public TV, but realisticly is totally different. The yardage discrepancies have already been mentioned in this thread.

I'm an average archer and bowhunter, nothing special. I can NOT shoot at the same "spot" anymore at 20 yards without damaging arrows. Its not that difficult with todays equipment and practice. 20 yards is nothing and I have several "robin hoods" to show for it. As said, im not anything special as most of my bowhunting buds have accomplished the same.

An olympic "skinny" arrow is greatly affected by the slightest wind/breeze, especaily travelling over 70 yards. An olympic archer might miss, at worst, by 8 or 10 inches. That is the worst. Thats what makes them olympians and the best in the world. Until any QB can throw a football 70 plus yards and hit within 8-10 inches of the target, consistently....well that will likeley never happen.

So while it may make great tv and youtube viewing, lets be realistic. Apples to apples. Whoohoo let the chastising for me begin!!!!
