Drew Brees (1 Viewer)

Excluding Vick and his insane physical ability, Brees is the only 6' QB who's been drafted near the 1st-round this century (first pick in the 2nd-round of the '01 draft). Sure...a case can be made for the Grossman (6'1"), but Smith is closer to 5'11" than 6'1".

Will the scouts be a tadbit more laxed with Smith's heigth (...or lack thereof) as a result of Brees' jaw-dropping performance this year?? I vote YES.

Don't think Brees' height will make any difference in where Smith gets drafted. VERY few short QBs make it in the NFL, and even fewer do well. Either way, simply due to his Heisman, SOMEONE will take a risk on him, and early...

The Troy Smith story will be one of the most interesting up until he is drafted. I think a very very very strong case can be made for him being the #1 qb in this class but will the NFL team in need take him as the #1 qb.

Right now for me, one is Troy Smith followed by Russell, Brohm, and then Quinn.

Vicks insane ability has not made him a good QB after six seasons though.. Smith seems to have figured out already in college that you make your mark with your arm in the NFL. The running is a bonus. Smith changed his style after his sophmore year into a pass first QB who can beat you with his arm, and then if needed can take off. Vince Young also has adapted this style. Mike Vick should take note.

took a while for the light to come on for Brees, too.

only after they drafted Rivers did he start playing well.

NFLDraftScout.com has pretty accurate measures, they take info from Pro Days and the combine. They measure the following QBs 6-2+ and under

Troy Smith 6005 (reads 6 feet and 5/12 of an inch)

Kellen Clemens 6015 (2006 2.17 to NYJ)

Aaron Rodgers 6020 (2005 1.24 to GB)

JP Losman 6022 (2004 1.22 BUF)

Rex Grossman 6010 (2003 1.22 CHI)

Tony Romo 6020 (2003 FA DAL)

David Garrard 6017 (2002 4.10 JAX)

Mike Vick 6000 (2001 1.1 ATL)

Drew Brees 6002 (2001 2.1 SD)

Marc Bulger 6015 (2000 6.2 STL)

Donovan McNabb 6022 (1999 1.2 PHI)

I dont think so. I dont think people realize how good Brees's stats were at Purdue. Smiths are not even close. Brees owns alot of big 10 records. I saw him play everyweek and i have missed him everyweek since

People have disagreed in other threads, but I still say Smith has a college arm, and that will become painfully apparent when compared to his peers this offseason.

That, combined with a lack of height, will keep anyone from taking him early. Id expect at least 3, and as many as 5 or 6 QBs to be off the board before Smith.

Just a thought on the orginal comment though. I think there is a QB that is similar to Smith that has played well this year, and might convince someone to take a shot on him earlier than say, last year, but its not Brees. Its Seneca Wallace.
