Drew Brees (1 Viewer)

Drew Brees had the 2nd most passing yds in a season in NFL history with 5069 yds passing and 34 TDs to go with it.

Guess how many 1000 yd receivers there were on the team.......

ETA--Marino had 2 guys (Duper/Clayton) with 1300+ yds in his record setting year of 5084 yds.

i'm pretty sure there's never been a 4000+ yard QB without a 1000-yard WR
Brady - 2006
Actually, it was Brady 2005 and that was about as barely as possible. Brady only had 4110 yards and Branch had 998 yards. Amazingly enough, that was Brady's only year above 4000 yards other than his stellar 2007 season. Crazy to think how highly is thought of (which is proper) and in 9 years in the league he has crossed 4000 yards twice and 30 TDs only once.

Is Brady the only one with 4000+ and no receivers over 1000? If so, that makes Brees' 5000+ and no receivers over 1000 even more remarkable.

I just checked pro-football reference and sorted by single season passing yds and checked each team (not sure if there is an easier way).

The next highest passing yds total I found that did not have a 1000 yd receiver was Dan Marino in 1985 when he threw for 4, 137 yds. Mark Clayton was tops that year with only 996 receiving yds.

That's even more amazing to me that Brees threw for almost 1000 yds MORE and still didn't have a 1000 yd receiver.

Of note, the other thing I saw that was impressive to me was the 95 Detroit Lions WR's with Scott Mitchell at QB.

Brett Perriman had 108/1488/9

Herman Moore had 123/1686/14

That's 231/3174/23

To put into perspective, Moss/Welker had 98/1493/23 and 112/1175/8. That's 210/2668/31 combined. Sure, they had more TDs but 500 fewer yds and 21 fewer catches.

ETA--Oh, and Barry Sanders chipped in 314/1500/11 and 48/398/1

Though he's only thrown 30+ TDs once, he has led the league in TDs twice.

Ahhh, 1995. My first year in FFB. That and the next few years were stellar for WR's

4,000+ passing yards without a 1,000 yard wide receiver:

Code:
1993	den	Elway1992	mia	Marino1984	nyg	Simms1980	cle	Sipe2003	kan	Green2008	nor	Brees1994	nwe	Bledsoe2007	det	Kitna1985	mia	Marino2005	nwe	Brady

I think Brees actually measures under 6 foot. Listed at 6'0 maybe the best small QB ever.

:hifive: My first year as well, which is why I remember it so well. It was my only big money year and it was sweet because in my early 20s, I cleared well over $1k. I wonder if I would still be into FF if I had lost everything.I still remember my whole team (TD only) because everything worked out and I only had one guy who even came close because he had Moore, Rice and Bruce (42 TDs combined). I had Pickens, Miller and Conway (43 TDs), but I also had Emmitt and little known Derek Loville. Emmitt had the record breaking 25 TD season at that time and Loville had 10 TDs. I remember taking Loville at the end of the draft and everyone laughed and then I stated that he was the starting RB for the 49ers. In his other 7 years, he had 6 total TDs. Throw in Erik Kramer's 29 TDs and it was a perfect storm. It is hard to imagine another year getting 78 total TDs for your starting 2RBs and 3 WRs or almost 16 TDs per player. They averaged all getting 1 TD every week. Amazing that the other guy had the FBGs ranked #1, #2 and #3 WRs in a start 3 WR league and I still beat him.

Regarding Kitna in 2007, I assume they're not counting DB return yards? I'm sure a couple in the NFC North may have been over 1,000 for the season.
