Drew Brees (1 Viewer)

Ministry of Pain

Footballguy
His last 4 years in the NFL he has 4,400/26, 4400/28, 5000/34, 4400/34...find me another QB that has a 4 year span like that, there just can't be a lot.

He needs to do some damage in the playoffs, I would totally agree but he has had success on perrenial loser franchises, sorry SD and NO but its true. No SB wins for either of them.

We pimp a lot of guys, where does Drew Brees stack up? Would a SB win this year be an automatic punch into Canton? What is he just makes it to the SB?

I kinda lean to the idea that he's 30...5 more solid years at least, barring injury he should rack up North of 40,000 yds and 300+TDs, that's pretty impressive. And he has a lifetime QB rating of 91 which is far better than guys like Dan Marino.

Barring a career-ending injury, this is an unnecessary conversation. He's clearly Canton-worthy.

Dan Fouts and Dan Marino didn't need rings to get in.

He should get in if he keeps this kind of production up. But a title and another year or two would make him a guarantee.

He's clearly on pace to be in one day. Some more big seasons would help, as would an MVP or a SB ring. But it's also hard to imagine him not producing like this for at least another couple seasons. He led the league in passing yards and passing touchdowns last season and nearly broke the record for passing yards in a season last year; then he blew that season out of the water in '09. He's probably not there if he retires today but he certainly will get in if he follows a normal career path for a player of his caliber.

Will voters take into account the very pass friendly era qbs are playing in now and hold that against them. The rules, especially since the colts whined a few yrs ago make things very tough on defense and allow for huge passing numbers. The rules for the d that marino and fouts threw against were tougher then today. A step further Tarkinngton in the 70s even harder. Kind of like 500 HRs in baseball is not what it used to be. Will Brees's inflated numbers be good enough now without much playoff success? Alot of qbs are putting up huge passing numbers now. 10 qbs threw for over 4000 yds this year.

Voters absolutely will (and should) take into account the passing era. That said, Brees is dominating his era.

His passing #s right now are eerily similar to Steve Young's career totals. I think 3-4 more seasons like he has had, and he will not need a ring. He might end being the Marino of this decade.

Well, he plays for the Saints......so, never.
He'll join Saints legends Earl Campbell, Jim Taylor and Doug Atkins.
Saints legends who played 2, 1 and 3 seasons for the Saints at the end of their careers.I think you made his argument for him.

He's got another 5 years left in him, at least. We'll have this talk again when we get nearer the end of his career. As of right now, I don't think he's a HoFer, but I don't think it's a stretch to imagine that his resume will continue to get a lot stronger over the next few years.

Or Moon or Fouts. They never even appeared in a SB.
5 consecutive Grey Cups >>> 3 AFC championship losses.
:hophead:As if anyone in the NFL cares about the Grey Cup. I had to look it up to even see what that was. Maybe while we're at it we should start citing Tommy Maddox's XFL success and Kurt Warner's grocery bagging employee of the month awards.

He's been as good or better than Brady and Manning since playing in New Orleans. If those guys completely sure fire, 1st ballot, HOF guys, Brees should make it in.

He's been in New Orleans for just four years, whereas Manning and Brady have been Manning and Brady for almost a decade now. Like I said, I think Brees will have a very compelling argument by the time all is said and done, but if he retired tomorrow, I don't think he's a HoFer.

This is where I sit too. Yes, he's been one of the top 3 QBs in the league for 3 years running now and if he does it for a few more I think he'll make it. If he does it for 5 more, he's first ballot. If he wins a title or two in the next few years he's a no brainer as well.
