Drew the 4th Overall Pick in my Money League (1 Viewer)

Klimtology

Footballguy
Hey,

Just drew the fourth overall pick in my money league and am wondering what my strategy should be. It's a 12 team, 3 WR, Non PPR.

Also, there was a thread a week or so ago about the best position to draft in - anyone have a link? I tried doing a search with no luck.

4 is a great spot imo.

You take Rice/Turner/Drew/Gore... on the comeback you go WR/WR unless some crazy value pick like SJax is there. Usually Roddy White or Brandon Marshall will still be there.

Going back up, if you are in a 6pt passing TD league, look for Peyton or Brady. If both are gone... Grab another WR, they get slim fast this year. You can likely still get a quality rb#2 like Addai/Ronnie Brown/Forte in the fourth. The WR's will have seen a huge drop off by then.

In the fifth, look for Gates. Good time to snag him if the draft plays out as above...

If if plays out right, you will have solid anchors all around by round 5.

For exanple...

QB1- Peyton/Brady

RB1- MJD/Rice/Gore/Turner

RB2- Foster/Addai/Brown/Forte

WR1- Roddy/Marshall

TE- Gates

OR (if Peyton/Brady are both gone)

RB1- MJD/Rice/Gore/Turner

RB2- Foster/Addai/Brown/Forte

WR1- Roddy/Marshall

WR2- Marshall/Jennings/Colston/Austin

TE- Gates

Waldman put up an article a little while back that is a goldmine for any position if you study it.

Here it is.

Before you get into the specifics of your league tendencies read it through. Then piece into your notes what you expect your opponents to do based on history and scoring parameters.

Provided you have an adequate window between now and your draft date you will be fine.

Also, you might want to check into fantasy football calculator for the latest in ADP. A little reasonable expectation can avoid a lot of stress and allow you a chance to drive your draft.

Of course if you haven't ponied up the short dough to get the subscription article now might be a good time. Well worth the price.

Big ups to Waldman here on a fine piece. His stock keeps getting higher.

Pretty good run down on the quick.:subscribe:

From the thread title, I couldn't tell if you were talking about Drew Brees or Maurice Drew. Either one could have been the fourth pick.

(BTW, I was watching the NFL Films preview for the Jaguars, and they use the audio from the radio broadcast when showing highlights. The radio guy referred to MJD as "Maurice Drew" in all the highlights from last season, as if he were still at UCLA.)

LOVED the 4 spot...

first 6 rounds as an indicator for me went like this (FYI we start 2rb, 3wr, 1rb/wr/te flex.. rest of positions we start 1)

1. gore

2. sjax (he fell wayyyy too far in a 12 man pool, so I couldnt pass on him.... austin, desean and some other were left, but no can do)

3. j best (austin was now gone as was romo and schaub... and I am high high high on Best

4. addai (yes, RB heavy, but he's great insurance, matchup and bye week replacement since I went RB heavy)

5. ocho conco

6. witten

Must start 3 WR and you waited to the 5th and took Ocho? Whoa.

Yep. I can start 3 RBs as well.... I took the RB heavy approach. DD has me has the second highest ranked team in my league by a fair margin.and most importantly.. i LIKE my team.

4 spot? Not much hope for your season. Might want to consider quitting now.

I entered 18 money leagues this year. Then I quit the ones where I didn't get a 1, 2, or 3 pick before I sent in my check. So now I'm down to a manageable 4 leagues with great talent on all of them.

How do those Wr's look after "85"? lolIt's a tough year to go RB heavy like that.

Of course it likes your team. You used the program to draft your team. The rankings it gives really don't mean much. Who are your other WRs? Much more RB value in the early mid rounds than WR value.

The 4th pick is a terrific slot to draft in. You'll get your choice of Ray Rice, Frank Gore or Michael Turner if you want to play it safe, or MJD if you're a risk-taker.

I had my 12-team draft on Sunday, and here's what I did.

There was an early run on the Stud QBs, so I chose to wait on my QB.

1.04 Ray Rice

2.09 Roddy White

3.04 DeSean Jackson

4.09 Antonio Gates

5.04 Ronnie Brown

6.09 Eli Manning (perhaps the most underrated QB in the NFL)

7.04 Clinton Portis

8.09 Ricky Williams (Ronnie Brown insurance)

9.04 Robert Meachem

10.09 Packers D (wanted Big Ben here, but he was taken)

11.04 Sidney Rice (low risk, high reward pick; hope he's back by Week 9 )

12.09 Montario Hardesty (now replaced by Rashad Jennings)

13.04 Chad Henne

14.09 Nate Kaeding

15.04 Anthony Gonzalez

16.09 Jeremy Shockey

17.04 David Garrard

18.09 Devin Thomas

I'd recommend getting two stud WRs in the first 5 rounds if at all possible.

Actually I didnt use the program to draft my team... There is already a thread I started about this a week or so ago.

Agreed! That was great posting Carver!

Thanks for responding guys.

Lots of good info here.

The draft is tonight and I'm still not sure who to pick.

It's between, MJD, Rice, Turner and Gore..

I currently have them ranked MJD, Turner, Gore, Rice.

Am I crazy?

It's a non PPR league.

Most people seem to like Rice in that spot.

I'm taking Gore at #4 tonight in a non-ppr. Why? Improved o-line, commitment to running the ball, improved players around him on offense, excellent defense, best running schedule in the league. Plus he was 2nd in ppg to CJ in 2009. Just make sure you handcuff Anthony Dixon to him, as Frank has been known to miss a game or two along the way!

My team for those who are interested.

12 Team, 3 WR, Non PPR

QB Favre, Brett (QB MIN) 4 QB

RB Jones-Drew, Maurice (RB JAC) 9 RB

RB Foster, Arian (RB HOU) 7 RB

WR Jennings, Greg (WR GB) 10 WR

WR Fitzgerald, Larry (WR ARI) 6 WR

WR Floyd, Malcom (WR SD) 10 WR

TE Davis, Vernon (TE SF) 9 TE

K Tynes, Lawrence (K NYG) 8 K

DST Chargers (DST SD) 10 DST

RES Giants (DST NYG) 8 DST

RES Cutler, Jay (QB CHI) 8 QB

RES Bush, Michael (RB OAK) 10 RB

RES Jacobs, Brandon (RB NYG) 8 RB

RES Knox, Johnny (WR CHI) 8 WR

I got the 4th spot in a 10 team keeper league and so far, I couldn't be happier, with 4 more rounds to go-

1.4 Ray Rice

2.7 Calvin

3.4 Fitz

4.7 Best

5.4 Crabby

6.7 Welker

7.4 Reggie Bush

8.7 KW2

9.4 Dez

10.7 McNabb

11.4 Gresham

12.7 Stafford

13.4

14.7

15.4 Flacco (Keeper)

16.7

:kicksrock: (I know, 10 team leagues are lame, but 2 guys didn't show for the draft, we had no choice)
