Drive-by Truckers (1 Viewer)

:thumbup:Just saw them Saturday night at the 40 Watt. I'm a bit late to the party as I'd never heard them 18 months ago despite living 20 minutes from Athens, but they're a can't miss now when they're in town. I've still got to catch Isbell sometime too.

love the DBTs. i've seen them on every west coast swing since 2006. while great musicians, the thing that sets them apart is the storytelling in their songs - it's unparallelled.

Patterson's Baxendale acoustic was ripped off while loading out of the Blue Note the other night. Somebody from Cracker or somebody from Cracker knew somebody who knew the guy who stole it and through the miracle of the internet it was back in his possession before they went on stage in Austin last night. People who steal gear from touring musicians make a good case for bringing back the town square and public stonings.

They don't need to be qualified, but they should be in the discussion of greatest southern rock bands of all time. They have more good albums than the Allmans and Skynyrd combined.

This kind of bumbs me out. The last we'll see of the Jason, Neff, Shonna Truckers.

That ####### rocks. I love Cooley's stuff. Which reminds me that Patterson Hood is my least favorite part of classic DBT.

It's leaked and opens with an instant Cooley classic.

#### Shots Count

Put your cigarette out and get your hat back on
Don't mix up which is which
They don't pay you enough to work
Well they don't pay me enough to #####
Boss ain't as smart as he'd like to be
But he ain't nearly as dumb as you think
He just wants evolution on budget with a schedule to keep
Suburban four lanes moving like blood through an old man's dying heart
Nothing but time to keep hope alive at the speed of a stream of tar
He bought in young and I have no doubt he's gonna cash out with a winning deal
Trophy tail wives taking boner pill rides for the price of a happy meal

#### shots count and the table is tilted
Just pay the man who levels the floor

Pride's what you charge a proud man for having

Shame is what you sell to a whore
Meats just meat and its all born dying,
some is tender and some is tough.
Somebody's got to mop up the A1,
somebody's got to mop up the blood

High ground ain't high enough
To kill you quick if you fall
Idealistically speaking it sounds like you ain't listening at all
Friday night riches are all you're ever gonna need until the fight in you on Monday's gone
One more drag tuck your hair in your hat
Don't act so surprised try not to look so lost

#### shots count and the table is tilted
Just pay the man who levels the floor
Pride's what you charge a proud man for having
Shame is what you sell to a whore

somebody's got to mop up the blood

Really really solid band. Saw them last year and they were great live. First started giving them a listen when they did a co-headlining tour with the Hold Steady (my favorite band). Would've been an amazing show.

But I will say, now I mostly just like Cooley's songs. He's a hell of a songwriter. To me, Patterson's songs are fairly inferior. But the combination of Cooley and Jason Isbell, those are two solid solid songwriters.

And right on cue. BAM!

 Never heard before but good stuff. Gonna try to catch the phx show.

Also thanks FFA for Blackberry Smoke.

Saw them last night in Boston, they were really good. However, the opening band Blitzen Trapper was excellent. Never heard them before and really dug it. Definitely worth a listen.

If things break my way I'll be watching these guys live tomorrow night. One of those bands that come along once a year and seem like the greatest thing ever. Imagine a blend of Alabama Shakes, Tom Jones and Otis Redding. The singer is a sweet freak, and the horns are sweeter.

I'm Torn Up

a great cover of A Change is Gonna Come ... dude has some pipes.

Broken Bones and Pocket Change
