Dolphins' Culpepper could miss the season

BY ARMANDO SALGUERO

Daunte Culpepper's continued soreness in the patellar tendon of his right knee is increasingly worrisome to the Dolphins, so much so that the team is seriously considering placing the quarterback on the injured reserve list.

Putting Culpepper on the injured reserve list would end his season.

The Dolphins position on the former starting quarterback has been that he is being evaluated day to day. But that evaluation has suffered at least two setbacks since he was shelved for the Oct. 8 game at New England and began a new rehabilitation program on his surgically repaired knee the week following that game.

''Sometimes he gets some soreness, mostly in his patellar tendon that restricts his mobility a little bit on the field, but when he's well-rested, he's starting to move around a little bit better,'' coach Nick Saban said Wednesday.

``He practiced some last week on the bye week and he's improving but we're kind of taking it day-to-day when it comes to the football side of it in practice.''

In fact, Culpepper has been restricted in practice since he started his rehabilitation and was inactive for Miami's home game against Green Bay.

He had served as the third quarterback the two previous weeks against New England and New York.

Culpepper also missed much of Wednesday's practice and was wearing a minimum contact jersey today, suggesting he would either get little or no work during drills.

Sure glad I traded for him in week 2.

:bag:

Oh well, at least it's a dynasty league, so I'll get to agonize again next year.

Saban screwed this whole thing up. You bring in Harrington so you don't have to rush back your franchise QB and what does he do? Get's him hurt again.

Daunte will be back in 2007 and all the doubters will be put to bed.

A fully healthy Culpepper with his wheels back is an elite talent in this league.

Culpepper without Moss = :garbage:

Oh brother.Anyway don't be suprised to see the Dolphins trade for Moss next off-season. Seriously.

And what has Randy done without C.Pep?

And go back to 2004. Culpeper put up monster games without Randy for half the year. That argument is way old already.

Just gettin' your goat man.In Moss's defense, he hasn't had a real QB to throw him the ball since he left Minny.

That's cool.I hope the Dolphins do pursue Moss, heck trade Chambers for him straight up the contracts should work out. I feel they are going to make a strong push for him, and Daunte wants him here now.

This injury takes 18-24 months to make a full recovery. I don't know what in G-D's name that coaching and medical staff were thinking!!!!

And what has Randy done without C.Pep?
Moss without Culp:
1998 min | 16 | 69 1313 19.0 17 TDs1999 min | 16 | 80 1413 17.7 11 TDs
Last year he was injured for much of the season which skewed his stats, but prior to his injury he put up these numbers with Kerry Collins at the helm:
| 1 nwe 5 130 | 1 | 2 kan 5 127 | 1 | 3 phi 5 86 | 0 | 4 dal 4 123 | 0
That would put him on pace for one of the best years in history yardage wise, and he still ended up with 1k and 8 TDs. To sum up, when Randy Moss is healthy he has put up spectacular numbers regardless of QB --- except for 2006, that is...

Gosh, is it just me or does that seem like a lot of caveats?

All I'm saying is anyone who says Culp made Moss elite is being ignorant. Moss was elite before Culp ever threw a ball in an NFL game. No one can really dispute this.

Laugh it up dude. But Culpepper was not a 3 time pro bowler because he could basket weave underwater. The guy had a major knee injury and depends on his wheels to make plays that are not there. When you shred your whole knee and try to comeback in 8 months you probably will have results like we saw from C.Pep.It took McGahee 2 years to fully recover from the same injury. The jury is out, but I believe in Daunte as a player and he has proven he is an elite talent when he is healthy. To just use the 2005 sample size and claim he is a wash out is just plain stupid imo. I say let's see what he can do in Miami when he is 100% then pass judgment.

Todem,

I think Daunte is better than most on this board apparently but coming back from injury is coming back from injury. I think an average QB with some esp good games is fair for 07, at least the first half. After that maybe he can become an elite QB again.

His legs bought him some time in Minny early on. IMO someone poorly coached him and wanted him to be an almost stationary pocket QB. The Fins gotta break that habit. His last year in Minny and with the Fins this year, he didn't use his legs to buy an extra half second-2 seconds. He panicked alot. Most QBs stink when they panic. Football players tear up their knees, it happens. It doesn't mean he's injury prone or his big(for a QB) body can't take a hit. Let him do his thing, he needs that little bit of extra time.
