Duckett to be traded? (1 Viewer)

It remains to be seen what happens with Carolina's running back situation, but <one rumor making the rounds at the Pro Bowl is that Atlanta will try to trade T.J. Duckett. Duckett's career hasn't progressed and Warrick Dunn is the Falcons' starter. But Duckett has good size and is the kind of power runner that could fit Carolina's offense.

Just can't see Atlanca trading a player who could possibly make an immediate impact in CAROLINA. Even if they get a 2nd or 3rd for him

Case in point. He won't go anywhere that he can do direct damage to the Falcons. Carolina is one of the top teams in the NFC, not to mention their division. No chance this happens, but a good chance he is gone.

Call me crazy, but I think the Falcons might be trying to build a perimeter run offense with an interior passing game. Maybe bring in some big and tall blocking receivers and pick up one of the big name TEs in the draft to match with Crumpler...

All of this still adds up to Duckett being a misfit here though, and I expect him to be gone as well.

Duckett would be a great fit in Pittsburgh.

Yeah, His 3.1 yard per carry average for the season should definitley command a #2 or 3

At BEST he ends up as a short yardage guy for Pittsburg/NY Giants or GASP Tampa Bay

Oh yeah, Dunn averaged 5.1 running behind the same line

I agree on everything, except to add that I don't see Pittsburgh paying the price to get him. FWP/Haynes and draft a big boy.

 Giants already have Jacobs. I still like Duckett, so I'm paying attention to the rumors here. I can see a few possibilities.

Pitt - discussed.

Buffalo - McGahee may be a stud, but they lack a #2, and Duckett will get the short yardage.

Houston - if they find a suitor for Dom, draft Bush and can get Duckett cheap enough.

Seattle - ok, I'm dreaming.

AZ - Shipp doesn't scare, Arrington sure isn't getting the tough yards

Philly - but only if cheap.

Way to compare Duckett's worst year to Dunn. How about 2004 when Duckett averaged 4.9 to Dunn's 4.2 despite being the short yardage back?

Duckett isn't 'special' and he certainly hasn't proven to be durable.

They should trade him to a team (outside the NFC South) while he still has SOME value.

Good luck though, as it's a buyer's market for RBs.

Duckett doesnt fit the zone blocking system used by Atlanta. He fit the offense better when he was first drafted and looked very good then. Since they changed the system he has been used primarily as the short yardage guy, the backup, and the grinder (after the team took a commanding lead). Roles in which he performed good to great at. The YPC is naturally low because a big portion of his carries are short yardage plays. What's haunted him hasnt been his performance, but his injuries and the change in the system.

Put him on a team which features a power attack and he should do well. These days though, a player like Duckett is usually a part of a committee. He would be a big upgrade on a lot of teams as the thunder part of a duo. Why would he be traded though to fill the same role he's filling now? Only a few teams currently have openings that look like they want to feature a big bruising back like TJ. Odds of him being traded to one of them look very slim.

Duckett's career hasn't progressed
Just like Jordan's career hadn't progressed?
Not a realistic comparison. Duckett has had more opportunites to show his stuff than Jordan ever had in New York....he is what he is.
LOL at comparing an 18th overall draft pick in Duckett to a 49th overall pick in Jordan.
I thought it made perfect sense. Where they were drafted has nothing to do with comparing the playing time of Jordan prior to starting, and the playing time Duckett has had. Obviously we've seen more of Duckett as a backup than we did with Jordan as a backup.

A first rounder is EXPECTED to start.

A 2nd rounder playing behind Curtis Martin is expected to come in the third quarter for a series, or on the goal line.

I do agree with you that Duckett is a bad fit for the Falcons though. But he's not durable whatsoever.

Tell that to Cedric Benson.
I wholeheartedly agree with you, but there's one problem. Benson held out the entire pre-season and when he was FINALLY coming on a bit, he sprained his knee.I'm a big Thomas Jones fan, so you picked a bad example.
Duckett couldn't beat out Dunn, lol. He must not be that good. I guess if Duckett got traded to Pittsburgh or Carolina he migh have some success, but I have my doubts.

Even if Benson hadn't held out it wouldn't have made one bit of difference. Thomas Jones WON that job in a big way.

Jordan was an early second rounder in one of the best RB drafts in NFL history. In most drafts, he would have been a middle to late first round pick. Both are big backs with speed. However Duckett is considerably bigger. His size is only comparible to guys like Bettis and Dayne... members of the 250 club. Jordan is more like Steven Jackson, Jamal Lewis, Eddie George, or Fred Taylor... the 230 pounders. Jordan is notably shorter but only slightly lighter than those I mentioned.

The talent and running style is comparible. The size isnt.

I believe he was speaking of Michael Jordan, not Lamont Jordan, and he's fishing. :loco:

If Duckett isn't special and isn't durable, wouldn't they want to trade him to someone in the NFC South so they could sabotage a rival?
