Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition Release (1 Viewer)

Just finishing the Dragonspear Castle adventure next week. Hadn't played since my teens. Interesting to play again. We started a couple of months ago.

I mostly only know these rule sets through their implementation in video games. I found 3rd ed. implementations useful, fun, easy to understand, and well integrated into the gaming universe. I found 4th ed. implementations to be a total cluster #### that detracted from play and had little relevance or effect on-screen.

I imagine we'll see these trotted out in some incarnation of BG/NWN/Pool of Radiance/whatever in the not-too-distant future. So I'll be keeping an eye out.

I had never played DnD before Fifth Edition's beta, but was familiar with how p&p gaming worked. This is a very good set of rules IMO.

I used to play, way back in the early 80s. I still have a bunch of hardcovers and I think some of my characters.

So how does one get back into D&D? Do I need to wander out to the mall or Reniassance Festival to find players? Maybe I can recruit my kids.

Getting the kids into it would be key. Being with out kids it would be very tough to explain to my wife that I am going over Mikey's house to play DnD. "

Hey Hun do you know where my dice bag is?"

"Sure, it's in my purse, where it's been since we got back from our honeymoon."

I haven't played D&D in about 30 years. Do people really still do the whole pen/paper/dice thing? I figured it's be all computerized by now and that MMORPGs pretty much rendered this kind of stuff obsolete. Kind of nice to know there are still analog dorks out there.

Same here, although if I still have any materials it's in storage and I haven't looked at that stuff in about 20 years.

I would be interested in trying to get back into it, but I don't have kids. I don't have any friends who play it at this point either so I am most likely out of luck. Some good RPG video games have basically taken it's place, but it's not the same thing socially.

I asked this earlier. I would be more inclined to play if some of the recording was done on tablets/smart phones.

Funny, this is making a resurgence. My daughter and her fiancé started playing with a group of friends last year and have recruited my son and his fiancé into their little D&D clan. I didn't know it was still around, but it is and apparently thriving.

Was somewhat familiar when 3 ed came out. What the hell were 4th and 5th? I don't understand how you got 10 years from 1->2 and 20 years from 2->3 and then go 3->5 in 10.

Wizards of the Coast trying to sell more books and stuff

back in the day each kid would buy 1 book, DM guide, players handbook, monster manual, and then you were done.

need to re-invent that every few years to generate more sales.
