I could see this for sure. He has run about as far as he can with Indy, whether they win this week or not they are not going to the SB. He turned around one of the worst franchises in the NFL with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he was maybe the 5th coach on their list. He did not win the SB but he was an architect in putting it together. The Bucs did wint heir SB and have missed the playoffs 3 of the last 4 seasons now.
He took over an underachieving Indy team and restored them to several winning seasons and making the playoffs every year. He ran into a buzzsaw with NE in many of those years and some teams are simply left at the alter year after year. I can remember the Oakland Raiders always losing to Miami and Pittsburgh every year in the playoffs till they finally busted through and won in 1976.
The loss of his son, an outlook with his team that he will probably never get them to the SB, maybe it is time to go back to college and coach the next 5-10 years. He will be in the Big 10 which is far from top heavy and he could probably make the Gophers a Rose Bowl contender within 2-3 seasons. Tony will do what is best for his family and the man always leaves a city and organization much better than the way he found it. Poeple can knock Dungy for not winning a SB and whatnot but to me he is a winner. Always has and always will be. Also do not discount the Defensive Lines he put togehter in minnesota all those years with Doleman, Millard, they were really a great DL that registered a lot of sacks and turnovers.
Whoever would take over Indy will have it tough. There is not enough money to really inject that defense with what is needed. Peyton should redo his contract...the guy makes more in advertising than the $15-18 million a season he gets with the Colts...he could supply an entire DL or LB corp with all that money, go out and maybe win a SB, and then get even more money in endorsements.
