He started taking the majority of the snaps from Ingram during the second half of Week 1 and got the start in Week 2. Unfortunately, he left with a groin injury last week and hasn't practiced all week. Ingram is a known commodity, however, and the job is probably Durant's when he recovers. If the groin injury is significant, though, it might hurt Durant's chances of cracking the nickel subpackage any time soon.

Ingram is the LOLB/SLB -- I'm not sure whether they're aligning according to offensive strength or not. The general consensus is that Durant would likely bump Smith to Ingram's slot and move into the Will in the base defense. Haven't seen a Jaguars game yet, so I can't confirm what's actually happened. And all four backers could probably survive inside or outside with how the Jags play. Maybe we'll see a homer in this thread soon; I'm shut out of the Jacksonville game this week, too.
Like Jene, I am sticking with the fact that Durant is by far the most talented OLB on the roster at this point and when he is fully healthy will be the WLB. Yes it's true that his injury could hold him out and possibly keep him off the field on 3rd downs for a few weeks. Eventually he will be a 3 down guy and putting up the most dynamic stats of all the Jax LB's.....and I will go out on a limb and say even on par with MPete. Mr Bramel.....next year I don't see Jax resigining an aging MPete so will Durant take over the middle or will they play it safe and have Smith handle the role and keep Durant at the Will? In that scenario I still see Durant being the most productive IDP LB on the Jax squad and if he does get slotted in the middle look for possible top 15 #'s.

I never bought into the speculation that Smith and Peterson would switch positions, and I've only marginally bought into the Durant will take over in the middle when Peterson moves on speculation. I think most of that is wishful, though not impossibly wishful, thinking on the part of Durant's IDP supporters. I've yet to see that from anyone in the organization and that's not what happened on the field last year. With a full offseason of workouts (similar to Stewart Bradley), it's very possible that Durant will be the MLB in 2009. I'm not counting on it. Regardless, I share your opinion that Durant will be a LB3+ at WLB, with LB1 upside in the middle.
