@AdamSchefter: Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe is being suspended one game for substance abuse and will miss the opener vs. Tennessee, per a team source.

 
What do you think Dwayne Bowe will do on his day off? What do you do on your day off? He's gonna smoke some weed, duh.

I wouldn't worry about it. Bowe's drop rate was only 3.9% in 2013. Reid said it it's been "thrown out of place about 15 times" which would seem to indicate repeatedly getting jammed and/or disclocated. He'll just have a crooked finger the rest of his life. His problems last year were more motivational.

Bowe will be cut. He was on the books for $8.75M guaranteed, now the Chiefs can save a lot of dough.

Chiefs can go 4-12 this year, Reid turned them around last yer, his job s way safe. Get a high pick to snare a WR/QB in the 1st/2nd in some combo and add to a fairly talented team, thy will get better than going 7-9 thru 9-7 and not being able to draft an impact skill player on offense.

If they hadn't just made the playoffs last year, and/or if they hadn't put themselves in such dire straits in terms of receivers I think you would be 100% correct. It is kind of shocking to me that they came out of THAT draft without at least a couple of WR prospects. For that matter how much of a gamble would a guy like Kenny Britt have been?? It's kind of shocking that a playoff team will be starting either AJ Jenkins or Junior Hemingway across from the entrenched stud WR... Donnie Avery on opening day. That's assuming there are no injuries before week #1!

Are we sure the suspension voids the guaranteed part of his contract? He was able to avoid being found guilty of possession by pleading to lesser chargers (defective equipment and littering).

 
If they were able to cut him it would accelerate $9M of his pro-rated signing bonus. It would cost them an extra $250k this year on the cap but free up $9M for the future.

Seriously. People are making a bigger deal of this than they should. He stinks. Unless you're in a huuuuuuuuuge super elite upper tier league, he should have been on your DO NOT DRAFT list.

And that's the thing, it probably is no impact this year but certainly would give them flexibility in 2015. I think KC is due for a regress of sorts. I'm not saying Charles won't be the #1 FF RB or anything but I can see double digit losses for them if things go wrong.

 
I skimmed the game tracker for preseason week 3 and noticed that Avery got a ton of targets from Smith. Anything to see here?

Donnie Avery has a career catch rate of 49.9%

This is not efficient enough to justify a higher rate of targets in my opinion. Avery did have a 55.5% catch rate in 2013, his first season with Andy Reid and Alex Smith. So that is an improvement from his five previous seasons.

Avery had 72 targets in 2013. 4th on on the team despite a lack of other options last season. I do not see that going up.

I am projecting Avery for 66 targets 33 receptions 435 yards 2TD.

For Dwayne Bowe I am projecting 114 targets 62 receptions 842 yards 5TD in 15 games.
