[Dynasty] 2015 Draft Prospects (1 Viewer)

Rotoworld:

Maryland senior WR Deon Long looked "like the best receiver" on Tuesday at East-West Shrine game practices, according to TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline.

Long spent the past few seasons in Stefon Diggs' shadow, though, contrary to popular belief, we aren't convinced that Diggs is the superior player. Long's work ethic was questioned earlier in his career, a factor that perhaps conspired to drop his usage rate in Maryland's offense. Pauline wrote over the summer that Long would be on his "all underrated team."

Rotoworld:

Ohio State senior WR Devin Smith's play on special teams "should serve [his stock] well," writes Sports Illustrated's Chris Burke.

The remark is a response to Urban Meyer's quote last week that Smith's draft stock is "soaring" because he's "one of the best gunners in college football." Smith averaged over 28 yards per carry and converted 33 catches into 12 touchdowns, so he obviously brings great additional value as a deep threat. "That special-teams punch can be overlooked in general draft discussions, but it should serve Smith well," Burke wrote. "He is effective as a gunner in large part because of his speed, which is also what will put him on the radar at receiver. Smith is lethal deep and doesn't mind fighting for the football."

Sources speaking with TFY Draft Insider Tony Pauline believe it's a "a definite possibility" that Georgia Tech senior WR Darren Waller "could make the move to tight end this summer."

We know the 6-foot-5, 232-pounder can block a bit, as he spent most of his career doing so in Georgia Tech's triple-option attack. Waller, who runs a 4.54 forty, is inconsistent as a receiver, but he would be a terrifying weapon as a tight end. Pauline wrote on Monday that Waller "dropped a lot of passes in drills" but "dominated" in one-on-one drills at East-West Shrine Game practice. "Physically beat down opponents," the analyst added.

Devin Smith - WR - Buckeyes

Ohio State senior WR Devin Smith could be a top-40 pick, "especially if he tests well during the postseason process," according to ESPN's Kevin Weidl.

"Evaluators who have been through Columbus this past fall have been highly impressed with not only Smith, but the overall depth and speed the Buckeyes have assembled on the offensive side of the ball," Weidl wrote. "At nearly 6-1 and 200 pounds, Smith is an explosive athlete who has outstanding play speed and an extra gear to run by defenders. While he still needs to add polish as a route runner, he has shown the ability to run the entire route tree while also flashing good focus and natural hands in traffic. Teams with a vertical passing game will value Smith more than others." Reports of Smith's stock have been all over the place. Some see a Rd. 1 or 2 playmaker, while others see a mid-rounder who isn't likely to develop into a No. 1 or 2 NFL receiver.

Rotoworld:

Georgia Tech WR Darren Waller measured in at 6'6 5/8" and 242 lbs at the East-West Shrine game.

Waller also has 9 1/4" hands and 33 3/8" arms. We bet some teams look to make Waller a "move" tight end, meaning he could see a lot of time in the slot. Do not expect Waller to wow with quickness or agility or quickness. He looks laborious in his breaks and doe snot create separation that way. However, Waller plays to his strengths and will use his length/power to get off the line and his frame or length to make contested catches. He can definitely get vertical with long speed and ball tracking.

28 yards per carry! Wow!

Rotoworld:

William & Mary Tre McBride arrived at the East West Shrine game measuring in at 6'0 3/4" and 205 lbs.

McBride also has 9" hands and 31 1/4" arms. Some will nitpick McBride's hand size, but drops have never been a consistent issue for McBride. In fact, the FCS receiver is outstanding at adjusting to the football and coming up with highlight reel catches. Keep in mind, Davante Adams has 9" hands, John Brown has 8 1/2" hands and Donte Moncrief has 9 1/8" hands. Rotoworld's Josh Norris believes McBride is the top prospects at the East West Shrine game.

Rotoworld:

ESPN's Mel Kiper mocked Ohio State senior WR Devin Smith to the Seahawks at pick No. 32.

We are shocked to see Smith projected this high. He really is a one trick receiver, and while that area he wins is vertically down the field, Smith cannot be relied on to do anything else at this time. Still, Smith will be at the Senior Bowl and could improve his evaluation.

AZ Central Sports' Bob McManaman believes Arizona State redshirt junior WR Jaelen Strong will land with the Cleveland Browns at No.19 in his latest mock draft.
"It'll be interesting to see where Strong ends up, but as I mentioned earlier with (Josh) Gordon's unreliability, it could very well end up being here," McManaman wrote. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Strong was a former JUCO recruit, who has been quite productive the last two years for the Sun Devils. Some consider Strong a first-round caliber talent and cite his high pointing ability as his top trait. We will be interested to see how Strong tests at the Combine.

CBS Sports' Dane Brugler notes that Michigan senior QB Devin Gardner impressed with "consistent improvement each day" at East-West Shrine practice.

"A talented size/speed athlete, the week started rough for Michigan WR Devin Gardner, but he impressed with consistent improvement each day," Brugler tweeted. The former 6-foot-4, 220-pound Gardner will have every opportunity to impress the scouts, the jury is still out for Gardner as a WR at the next level. Brugler wrote earlier this week that Gardner "did some things well and has the athleticism for his size that should translate well, but it will certainly take some time before he sheds the 'quarterback trying to play wide receiver' label."

Old Dominion senior quarterback Taylor Heinicke was "the best of the group" of quarterbacks at the East-West Shrine practices, according to CBS Sports' Dane Brugler.

"None of the six QBs on the Shrine Rosters are lock draft picks. However the best of the group was easily Old Dominion QB Taylor Heinicke," Brugler tweeted. The Old Dominion prospect threw for 3,476 yards this season, with a 30/16 TD/INT ratio. Brugler wrote earlier this week, that Heinicke "has showed excellent timing and rhythm with his footwork and release, displaying proper ball velocity and spin off his hand. "

CBS Sports' Dane Brugler notes that William & Mary senior WR Tre McBride was his "top NFL prospect" at the East-West Shrine game.

"WR Tre McBride was my top NFL prospect at the Shrine Game entering the week and as I leave Tampa, that hasn't changed. Pierre Garconish," Brugler tweeted. Our own Josh Norris seconds that notion, and has ranked Mcbride as the event's top prospect prior to the week and after all meaningful practices concluded. The William & Mary prospect hauled in 64 receptions for 809 yards and four touchdowns this season. McBride averaged 27.5 yards per kick return and has posted 15 TD receptions over the past two seasons.

William & Mary WR Tre McBride is the top prospect at the East-West Shrine game, according to Josh Norris.

Norris ranked Mcbride as the event's top prospect prior to the week and after all meaningful practices concluded. He continued to show the same body control and strong hands to consistently win in one on ones. At best, look for McBride to be selected in the third-round.

Maryland senior WR Deon Long "received praise from the coaching staff [on multiple occasions at East-West Shrine game practices] for his consistent effort working back and attacking the ball, making sure the defensive back and no chance to make a play," reported CBS Sports' Dane Brugler.

"Long has average height and a lean, wiry build, but he uses his size well and doesn't show any passiveness going up to highpoint with his hands," Brugler wrote. "Although Stefon Diggs gets most of the attention and is projected to be the first Maryland wide receiver drafted in the 2015 NFL Draft, Long has NFL talent himself and showed that on Monday." We see Long as an underrated prospect, assuming past questions about his work ethic are answered. He's doing a good job of that.

NFL Media analyst Charles Davis believes Maryland senior WR Deon Long "can be an effective and dangerous slot receiver."

"Texas State CB Craig Mager has gone up against Long in East team drills and was impressed with Long's quickness off the ball," passed along College Football 24/7 writer Mike Huguenin. Long looked "like the best receiver" on Tuesday at East-West Shrine game practices, TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline noted.

Not to box score scout, but as a former Stefon Diggs owner in a devy league I'd check his game logs every week waiting for him to blow up and consistently notice that he was being matched or out-produced by Long.

he doesn't win consistently enough against inferior competition, whatever the reason there's no excuse for that.

Minnesota redshirt sophomore TE Maxx Williams "bears some similarities to Greg Olsen," writes ESPN's Todd McShay.

"He is very talented with a great size-speed ratio, and he is expected to test off the charts in terms of measurements and athletic ability," McShay wrote. "His father played in the NFL, so he has the bloodlines. He is one of the more underrated prospects in this class right now." The 6-foot-4, 250-pound Williams is McShay's No. 20 rated prospect. He has also been compared to Jason Witten and Kyle Rudolph.

Jordan Taylor - WR - Owls

The Sporting News' Chris Kouffman noted that Rice redshirt senior WR Jordan Taylor "flashed a unique ability to plant a leg and explode out of breaks" at Shrine Game practices.

"He cut his routes sharply and finished with fantastic catch radius," Kouffman wrote. "His body language and ability to complete challenging catches leave one wondering what he may do Saturday when he steps onto the artificial turf of Tropicana Field. Taylor is capable of highlight-reel plays, which is the primary reason he gets the nod over a player who clearly had a better practice week." The Owls' prospect has outstanding size at 6-foot-5, 210 pounds, and is expected to run well in the forty. TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline believes he could be drafted in the middle rounds.

Blake Bell - TE - Sooners

Oklahoma senior TE Blake Bell drew comparisons Lions tight end Joseph Fauria at the Shrine Bowl, reported the Sporting News' Chris Kouffman.

"Partly due to his newness at the position, and partly due to the tight end position no longer being en vogue in today’s college passing games, Bell caught just 16 passes as a college tight end," Kouffman wrote. "Former Shrine Game participant and current Browns tight end Jordan Cameron suffered a similar fate at Southern California. Bell and Cameron provide an excellent example of how even players from larger programs need the week of Shrine practices to help scouts calibrate their talent relative to other players." Bell measured in at 6-foot-6 3/8 and 263 pounds with a 33-inch arm length and hands just under 10 inches, all prototypical dimensions. "Bell was surprisingly smooth and natural at running routes and catching the ball," Kouffman wrote. "He also showed athletic body control and consistently caught the football outside his frame with his hands. Bell showed good agility and some explosive ability. He jumps well."

Tre McBride - WR - Tribe

William & Mary senior WR Tre McBride "not only looked like the most talented receiver during [shrine Game] week, but also the most polished," observed the Sporting News' Chris Kouffman.

"His speed and precise footwork were noteworthy," Kouffman wrote. "He showed the most consistency in separating from man coverage and catching the ball." The 6-foot, 205-pounder with 4.5 speed drew absolute rave reviews throughout the week from the scouting community. "Smaller, quick receivers in all-star practices often can separate and catch early in the week as corners give them lots of space during coverage drills," Kouffman wrote. "As the days go by, those DBs inevitably become more aggressive and physical in their coverage, and a lot of receivers wilt like lettuce under a heat lamp. McBride continued to create separation and finish plays. This bodes well for him as he tries to make it to the next level." McBride posted 64 receptions for 809 yards and four touchdowns this season.

Senior Bowl weigh-ins today. Some results for notable players:

RB Ameer Abdullah 5' 8 1/4" 198

RB Cameron Artis-Payne 5' 9 5/8" 212

RB David Cobb 5' 10 3/4" 229

RB David Johnson 6' 3/4" 224

RB Jeremy Langford 5' 11 5/8" 211

WR Sammie Coates 6' 1 3/4" 216

WR Devante Davis 6' 3" 220

WR Antwaan Goodley 5' 10 1/2" 210

WR Vince Mayle 6' 2" 219

WR Ty Montgomery 5' 11 3/4" 216

WR Devin Smith 6' 0 3/8" 190

TE Ben Koyack 6' 4 3/4" 249

Surprised Montgomery wasn't over 6'. Huge weight though. 216 pounds on a 5' 11.75" frame is Andre Johnson-like mass.

Cobb is a big dude too.

Coates with a solid height/weight.

Abdullah is light, but not actually that lean for his height. When you look at the style of back he is, I don't think this hurts him.
