[DYNASTY] Atlanta WRs (1 Viewer)

The Falcons have some vets who haven't ever shown that they can be more than a space filler (Dez White, Finneran) and two late-first picks the last two years (Jenkins, Roddy White).

Vick holds down the value of any WR, but what do people who've watched the Falcons a fair amount think will be the long-term pecking order? I'm specifically thinking of Jenkins vs. Roddy White - which one will be the WR1 there?

Nobody there looks like a WR1. White showed good big play ability his rookie year. Jenkins has more of a possession look to him. Between the two, one of them should provide a long term answer as the team's second receiver. They broke the bank on Price thinking he could be the answer as a number 1. Eventually the Falcons will make another move to get a legit WR1. The Falcon have been in cap hell and lost a first round pick since picking up Price and signing Vick. So they screwed up their opportunity to get a WR1. This year the only top talents coming to the FA market are Owens and unlikely Wayne. Owens has stated interested in the Falcons but unless they cut Dunn I dont see them affording him. They also have a lot of other needs to address than just WR. So continueing with the youth approach on offense for at least another year looks to happen.

WR#1 in Atlanta = TE#1 Crumpler. He is the only recipient of passes in Atlanta that I would want. The others....yuuuuck. :X

I think that White can become a decent #1 WR there and Jenkins has the skill set for a decent #2. Just not sure if it will be in 2006.

Until they decide to throw the ball, it doesn't matter if they have Randy Moss, TO or anyone else at WR. When they do throw, VIck gets locked in on Crumpler too often. Until the bring more variety to their play calling and Vick starts to look at other options, may it be getting confidence in them or not, then none will put up true WR1 numbers.

I think Jenkins has shown flashes, but will we or the Falcons organization ever know waht he can do? Not in their current system? He might be one of those prime examples where he just does avg #'s in limited role, but goers elsewhere and everyone says "Wow, why did they let him go?"

I think R. White had a nice first season considering all that I mentioned. He needs consistancy though, I saw him drop several easy passes at times, but I'll chalk that up to him being young. The word on him was that he was a bit more raw and would need a little more time at this level, but had great upside. He gave glimpses of that in his limited role, experience and system he's in already.

To add insult to injury as far as the passing game goes in Atlanta, I just read on my dynasty league website last night that Vick is having problems grasping the new offense. He never struck me as a smart guy. Anyway, I don't have the link or know where the article was from (I can give you the link when I get home), but it was quoting Vick as saying he's having a hard time understanding the plays. It's not composed of the "dink and dunk" stuff that they normally ran. Uh-oh...It looks like when they require Vick to actually learn plays instead of running around and improvising, they are in for an uphill battle. Vick sounds as if he's not very confident unless he is "dinking and dunking" to Crumpler or Dunn. I'd take Vick or the Atl WR's ONLY IF THEY PRESENTED GREAT VALUE. Other than that...no thanks.

What does anyone think about the Falcons drafting a TE in the second round? It's obvious that Vick, while he can't find his wide receivers, CAN in fact find his tight ends, and to a lesser extent his running backs.

A guy like Mercedes Lewis would do a lot of damage opposite Alge Crumpler, and although a bit unorthodox, an inside passing game with an outside rushing attack might just be the sort of balanced attack that can propel a Vick-led team to that championship level.

I think they should just tell White and Jenkins to put on a bunch of weight so Vick can see them as well as he sees Crumpler.

Is it far fetched to suggest that maybe Vick doesn't have great eyesight and has a tougher time seeing WRs far down the field?

I would rather have neither of those guys, but if you just want which one I like more ... I would go with White. He has the downfield potential that can work for Vick. Deep balls are all that Vick really throws well anyway. He has virtually no touch on any pass. Just send Roddy down the field and see if anything good happens. That is what you have to hope for if you want to keep a Falcons WR. You must be in a deep league because Falcons WRs probably won't be that great anytime in the near future.

An article on Vick appeared in the AJC today. Vick was quoted as being kind of lost when he was asked about the offense. Not good.

As for that offense, which Knapp and other coaches who've implemented it said takes three-to-five years to digest, Vick said he is "lost" about the team's overall philosophy, wondering why the passing game doesn't consist more of the short, slant patterns of most West Coast offenses.

So long as Vick is in Atlanta, there won't be a #1 WR. As mentioned earlier, Crumpler would be the #1 target. I'm almost convinced that if someone like TO were brought into Atlanta, it still wouldn't matter as much. Sure, he or someone like him could stretch the field, but Vick has this "run first" mentality, mainly because their OL sucks and he doesn't get much protection.

Right now, I'd say Jenkins #1, Roddy White #2. But they need a marquee player in there. Defenses won't respect the passing game so long as you have the WRs they have right now, and Vick at the helm. They will continue to try and find ways to stop the run...

Maybe the Falcons should wear different uniforms on game day than the other team.Oh, wait a minute...

:D

:lmao: Maybe the WRs should dress a little more seductively. Then Vick could hit them.

Interesting thought, I like it. Concentrating on the middle of the field with two capable TE's, drawing those safeties in...bam, hit White deep with one-on-one coverage. Since you came up with idea, what do you call this new offense? With that said, put Schaub in.

Big Falcons fan here. Vick said his knee was hurt early in the season. He did not let it get out in the media.

Being hurt he could not move around the way he usually would. Also, these WR's are very young and inexperienced. If I wanted to pick one it would be the little speedster Roddy White.

Are you saying that Jenkins with his 4.3 40 speed doesn't?

In the games I watched last year, it didn't seem to me that Jenkins had as much "game speed" as White did. If that is his real track speed, then he plays slower than his track speed.

I seem to remember him clocking that at the combine, which at 6'5" is pretty impressive. Of course, he never looked really fast at OSU either. He always seemed to be a posession type receiver. Unfortunately, like White, he's very raw. The Falcons should have traded up to get a more established receiver like Roy Williams or Larry Fitzgerald. I actually think the idea of a two tight end set would be great for the Falcons. Imagine lining up 1 WR (whomever they think runs better routes), 2 TE, RB, FB every play. They could do a major power run game (which would play to their strengths) or toss to their great receiving tightends.

I believe you read an article where he spoke of the past offenses recently.

Simple solution.............Trade Vick for a WR and start Shaub. He is the best QB on the Falcons........
Not a chance this ever happens. I know you were just throwing that out... but Vick is a Falcon lifer. He brings in too much $$ to the team for them to ever let him go.

I agree in theory but it is possible and not out of the question. You'd have probably said the Pats would never trade Curtis Martin or the Vikes wouldn't trade Moss or Joe Montana would never play for a team other than the Niners. Also I can't recall an athletic QB that stayed with the same team. The best two(at times, calm down Kordell haters :D ) other than Vick were Kordell and Randall and they each played elsewhere. I'd be curious if anyone recalls why Randall left the Iggles.
