(Dynasty)Could Graham be Reclassified as a WR Next Year? (1 Viewer)

He's playing a huge percent of his snaps either in the slot or outside. He hardly blocks. For fantasy purposes, this has been an absolute godsend this year. But his contract is up next year. The franchise tag number is about 5 million higher for WRs than it is for TEs. So if he gets tagged by the Saints, there's plenty of incentive for him to argue that he is a WR. This would have a big impact on FF. How likely do you think it is?

No concern over this? For redraft (which I guess is the majority of this site), it might not matter, but for dynasty, it could be big.

in my dyno-nasty league I'd be ecstatic as I don't own the player and te gets bonuses as it is. good riddance

He won't get tagged. They'll sign him to a long-term deal. I'd guess Brees would even restructure to make it happen.

As a Graham owner, I'm holding onto my TE depth in case this happens. I was actively shopping an emerging TE a couple of weeks ago until I saw someone else bring up this possibility. IF it happens, he's potentially a top-3 WR.

This is the same thing that came up about Gonzo a lot, who also was basically a WR.

In the end graham will get a new contract and he'll be a TE his whole career just like gonzo.

If anything Graham would most likely get dual eligibility--similar to baseball leagues where some starting pitchers have both relief pitcher and starting pitcher eligibility. I believe dexter mccluster may have had wr/rb eligibility a couple years ago too. If anything, this dual eligibility would actually make graham far more valuable.

Colston never played TE his rookie year, not once.

And no WR plays TE 40% of the time, or even 5% of the time.

And it all depends on how he is shown on the roster.

So, no, just because he may get paid like a WR it doesn't matter.

Didn't Cook just get this deal, where he got paid like a WR?

It's not about a contract.........it's about the franchise tag, which is a LOT higher for WRs than TEs

Graham isn't mis-using the label of TE. The position of TE is evolving. He's a tight end; it's just that a tight end isn't limited to what we consider the position to be.

QBs aren't running backs, but you can bet that running is and will continue to be a big part of the job description going forward. If you can't run, you'd better be one heck of a passer. Running is part of what a QB is expected to do, but that doesn't make them a RB.
