Why is Sean Taylor getting so many more votes than Sean Jones?
For me, his immense talent and potential is just too tempting.
I agree. Read a good article about the Redskins coaching situation having a lot to do with the Redskins struggles on defense this year. Cornerbacks and safeties were not attending the same meetings and are coached by different guys. It may have been leaked by Adam Archuleta so take that FWIW but I got the impression that thier safeties coach is not the sharpest tool in the shed.. and this coach may be holding back Taylors development. He is a great player and I wonder if he wont explode under better tutiledge and scheme. It was also mentioned that Greg Williams has been having both safeties have a lot of run support responsibilities out of the cover 2 defense. A defense that is supposed to leave the safeties back for deep zone coverage. It is kind of backwards when you think about it and I guess the Redskins got burned on a lot of deep passes off of play action because of it, still I know from watching a lot of cover 2 when Dungy was with the Vikings, that the SS would often be in the box on early downs. Point being that Taylor has the speed and talent to recover in such an agressive scheme and if properly coached I think that should help his numbers. And that Williams does not use him as a traditional center field FS, but is much more aggressive and puts Taylor in the position to make plays. Which he is very capable of doing. There is a lot of turmoil with the coaching staff of the Redskins right now because of how the team has performed this year however. Greg Williams I guess has a clause in his contract that would lead to him being the Head Coach if Dan Reeves steps down. After this season the owner might not go that way and instead eat the contract he has with Williams. So that does leave me wondering what might happen with Taylor in a different system. Could be some benifits that would come from that.. but if he was not used as aggressivly then his numbers probobly would not be as attractive. So there is some uncertainty surrounding that.ETA- If Taylor for some reason got stuck with more coverage responsibilities it is somthing he is very capable of but it would affect his tackle numbers much like what has happened to Ed Reed. Who is also an outstanding player. But more of an afterthought now that he has been moved to FS in the 46 defense that forces him to play so much center field coverage. Reed is still a good play against strong passing offenses like the Bengals though. Weaker teams never get to Reeds level.
