[Dynasty] Do any of the major awards have a factor? (1 Viewer)

Don't mess with Texas
I like to look at the awards to help me gage to a small degree the value of players I'm targeting in the draft. I was wonder if anyone else do the same and if so how much value do you put on these awards. Here are players that are draft eligible players for this year and the awards they've won.

Those awards mean absolutely nothing, and people in my big money league don't pay attention to them whatsoever.

Also, some of those players aren't draft eligible.

:goodposting: Great college players do not equal great NFL players. Ask Troy Davis, Anthony Thompson, Gino Torretta, Ken Dorsey, and a cast of hundreds more.

It might be interesting to list the past 10 winners of each award, and then see what sort of NFL success they've had or not had.

The Heisman has been trending towards terrible NFL players for about 10 years, now. Before that, there were some pretty damn good NFL players who won the award.

You realize I'm not just speaking only about the winners but those that were finalist/semi-finalist as well? Thats why I posted them.

These awards generally are a good indication of production which is a great place to start in evaluation, although not the be all to end all. There are only handful of productive NFL players who were not highly productive in college. This board and the NFL draft are littered with athlletic, limited production players, who go figure flop. This year we all could have been on Freddie Barnes earlier than his bowl game by just following the numbers he put up. We still need to see if there is NFL athletic skill to go with that, but current returns show that he appears to have something to him.

:goodposting: I've looked at Hernandez a lot closer after noticing he won the John Mackey award. Before then I was dead set on Gresham and McCoy but after tacking a closer look at him......not so much. His been very productive, catches the ball with his hands, runs strong and linebackers seem to have a hard time staying with him. He's now 1b on my board next to Gresham.I never said that this was an end-all-be-all but it does cause me to play closer attention to some players. The same goes for LeFevour and Keenum, they didn't win the Davey O'Brien award but watching these guys play is something else. Hell I like LeFevour and would take him later in the draft instead of drafting McCoy, Tebow, or Bradford. I can use that earlier pick on a more skilled player.
