I know that Best is the man and will collect his share of lingerie juking guys out of their shorts for a long time to come. However, Smith wasn't bad before he got injured. Usually, unless your name is Wes Welker recovering from knee injuries takes time and he's still very young. I'm asking because I'm in a very deep 16 team dynasty league and Smith has just come available.

So, will Smith ever have any dynasty value again if not for the Lions for some other team? I know he's 3rd on the depth chart right now, but I still see him surpassing Morris as soon as they're sure he's 100% healthy. Your thoughts?

Maybe as a handcuff at this point...but nothing else. If you are the best owner, you may want to pick him up and hold on just to see what happens. Otherwise, pick up a project.

if you have room, then by all means. i dont think he holds much value outside of injury, but best has proven to be an injury risk.

I don't know that I totoally agree. In his rookie season, he went for 976 and 8 TDs at 4.1 ypc - not spectacular but certainly productive. In a very deep 16 teamer, sure. 3 dynasty plusses for Smith, imho:1) He was productive as both a rusher and receiver out of the backfield (40 catches/season)

2) He is only 23

3) He's behind Best. The way that's a plus is one of two things will happen - Best will prove to be the man, and Smith will likely move on to another team where he could start. Best could prove injury prone (being smallish and already having issues with turf toe), in which case Smith could re-emerge in Detroit.

I'm not saying he's a sure bet or even anything close, but he has shown he can produce both on the ground and through the air in the NFL. Injuries are a concern. He's not a great talent, but could be a decent RB2 at some point in the future if he finds himself starting (either for the Lions or someone else).
