Dynasty: LeRon McClain, RB Baltimore (1 Viewer)

This guy has my attention. With an apparent RBBC looming in Baltimore I think there is the potential for McClain to claw his way to the top of the heap eventually.

He's huge (6'0" 260 lbs) but Baltimore has had pretty good success with big RBs in the past.

I know it is only 1 week but his week 1 stat line has me interested:

19 rushes for 86 yards, 2 catches for 24 yards.

Anyone else rostering this guy? I think that at the very least he makes for an intriguing TD vulture given his size.

Gotta give McClain some love.

LeRon McClain-RB- Ravens Sep. 21 - 7:35 pm et LeRon McClain rushed 17 times for 66 yards and scored two 1-yard touchdowns to help the Ravens top the Browns 28-10 in Week 3.McClain got a boost in carries from Willis McGahee's cut eyelid and made good use of the opportunity. This guy craves yardage. He never stops moving his feet. It's a great thing to have a workhouse like McClain on a team whose QB is extremely inexperienced. He's likely to get a good amount of carries next week and might be the go-to guy on the goal line.

Anyone else like this guy? Or am I the cheese?
I like McClain and have him in a couple dynasty leaguesButToday's 2 TDs and most of the yards only happened because of a McGahee eyelid scratch I see him as a backup with moderate upside. If McGahee dies, I see a McClain-Rice timeshare like we saw in week 1, with McClain having more value due to goalline carries. As long as McGahee is OK, McClain is not worth much in fantasy. Unless something crazy happens, I don't see him as ever being an every down type back. The Ravens have found a nice place for him in their system.

I'm just curious why you say that. If McClain has a better ypc and goal line presence than Rice why wouldn't he get the majority of the carries with Rice becoming the change of pace back if/when McGahee goes down? They have had big bruisers as their starters before and have done very well with them. With a rookie QB they will be near the top of the league in rushing attempts and so far McClain is getting as big a piece of the pie as anyone.

Getting Lorenzo Neal out of fake retirement was pretty huge for this running game. Neal is still very effective as a blocker and so is McClain as a big banging halfback . But keep in mind, as iffy as McGahee's health is from week to week.. McClain is just a 'Zo injury away from being relegated to fullback.

Rice had more carries than McClain in week 1, so that's really all I have to go on as far as a McGahee-less assignment might go. I don't know that a converted fullback like McClain would be given an overwhelming majority of the carries, but if Rice kept stinking it up he might.I don't take a whole lot from today's game. McGahee got "hurt" and then it was garbage time. McClain looked real good though. So did McGahee. I'd like to see them both do it against a team not from Ohio.

He should be picked up... nevermind the TDs and carries hes stealing this yr, Willis will most likely be cut / traded / release dnext season. Leaving Ray Ray / McLain as a nice RBBC. And Rice is having a fumbling problem.

I have him in 3 leagues, but can only retain him in one next yr :excited:

P.S. raise your  if you played him today... I played him 3 leagues today and got a very nice surprise

Didn't play him today but do have him rostered.

Between he and Hightower I have 2 very interesting prospects that weren't necessarily your "name brand" guys. I like that.

Why do you say this?
Just doing a little reading....
HEY JAMISON: Now that Le'Ron McClain has established himself as a tailback in the Ravens' version of the "Heavy Jumbo" package, what happens when Willis McGahee returns? Do we have a running back-by-committee situation brewing?Rodney JacksonRandallstown

HEY RODNEY: This question won't be answered until Sunday, when McGahee returns to the lineup. Judging by the comments of offensive coordinator Cam Cameron, the Ravens don't plan to start McGahee or use him as the featured back. The coaching staff is excited about McClain, a pure power back, and rookie Ray Rice, a nice change-of-pace runner. McGahee is expected to have a "role" in the offense, which could mean a handful of carries. All indications point to a running back-by-committee approach, which could keep the Ravens' running attack fresher in December.

Running back Willis McGahee (arthroscopic left knee surgery) participated fully in practice today, but coach John Harbaugh wouldn't rule out a tailback-by-committee approach, which could involve rookie Ray Rice and fullback Le'Ron McClain. "We're going to use all of our good players and put them in positions where they do what they do well," Harbaugh said. "So we're going to put our running backs out there and let them play

Watching today's game, it looks to me like McGahee is The Man as long as he is healthy.

Like I said, I own McClain in multiple leagues as well (Hightower too, BTW - we think alike), but my expectations are tempered.

Healthy McGahee will get the bulk of the work. Hands down.

Dead McGahee could make McClain a viable fantasy starter, but could as easily result in McClain-Rice RBBC in a bad offense

Dead Lorenzo means McClain is a fullback once again (and a pretty good one)

McClain being a career fullback, in college too, makes it a real stretch that he could become a stud fantasy NFL halfback. But... stranger things have happened I suppose. The man runs hard, and he has worked hard to make himself the the productive backup halfback he was today.

Internet Explorer just crashed on me while I was writing a massive post, and I don't have the energy to rewrite it. Suffice to say that the quotes you referenced were largely speculation, and the context was specific to this week's game. McGahee had run for 14/64/1 when he got hurt after running for 7 and 4 yards to the one yard line. McClain came in for his second TD once McGahee went out, but up until that point had only 22 yards and a TD. McClain did not look special in the second half, running for 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 4, 5, and 6 yards as they ran the ball out, although to be fair Cleveland was stacking the line to stop the Ravens from running out the clock.

My strong opinion is that McGahee is the man in Baltimore, and all this talk of RBBC is talking about the plan until he is fully back from having his knee scoped. Today, it looked like his knee was fine, they gave him red zone carries including two from the 5 where he ran for four and five yards, and the only things taking him out in the fourth quarter were a minor injury once the game was 28-10, and perhaps a feeling that they didn't need to overwork him in his first game of the season.

I still have McGahee as a strong buy, and McClain's performance this week may give you one more week to buy low. Baltimore's upcoming schedule may keep him from blowing up too much too soon, but I like McGahee to have a similar performance to last year over the final three quarters of the season. The Ravens' offensive line play looks improved over last year's version, and he's already had his bye week so you'll get an extra week of production from him that you won't get from your other starters.

There is my boy again.

Once might be a fluke.

Twice could be coincidence.

But three times in a pattern.

Pick this guy up.

Long gone in my leagues.

He may be slow, but I sure wouldn't want to have to try to tackle him!

The Samkon Gado of 2008!

(e.g., enjoy it while it lasts, which may not be long)

Still available in my league. Whats McGahee's status? I'm thinking about dropping Mendenhall and picking up McClain.
