[Dynasty] New league with IDP (1 Viewer)

We are converting a well establiashed redraft league to a Dynasty with IDP, and are considereding what to do with the special teams aspect of the game. What do you think about awarding punt return yards, kick return yards, and special teams TD's to the actual player, whether it is a defensive player or misc. offensive player? The logic being, if he is on your team risking injury; shouldn't you get credit for his play?

I've never liked adding this component. If you really feel the need to have some sort of special teams scoring draft team units, not players.

I actually like this aspect. It makes some WRs and DBs more valuable because you get their return yards. Guys like Terrence Mcgee become studs in this format. WRs like Wes Welker, Dante Hall, and Eddie Drummond now become worth owning and starting on bye weeks.

I would treat return yds for kickoff/punt the same as interception return yds. Something like 1pt/20-25yds is good. Also, all the other defensive scoring aspects should count like tackles, fumbles, etc.

I am not a big fan of drafting a team special teams unit. It is more complicated since then you need to measure the yds of the punt, and the return both ways. I would rather just count each individual players part as if he was still on offense (returning) or defense (kicking).

I agree that drafting a special teams unit would be more complicated. Also, I didn't even think about including interception return yards for DB's; I need to look into those numbers. Imagine how much more valuable R. Bush will be if he returns a couple kick and punt returns every game. Thanks for your thoughts.

I think it really depends on what you make punt and kickoff return yds worth. Return guys usually get more kickoff yds than punt because you have more room to run. This in mind, Zealots scores it 1/20 punt return yds and 1/40 kickoff return yds. I personally think this is very restrictive.

Lets say a return specialist averages 50 punt return yds and 100 kickoff return yds. That is 2.5 pts for punt yds and 2.5 for kickoff. I like giving 1/10 for punt and 1/20 for kickoff. Makes your return guys actually have value. Plus when they bust one for a TD they really have a good week or when they post something like 150-200 kickoff return yds. It makes it so that you have to dig a little deeper on players to find ones that are return specialists worth having.
