Dynasty offseason rules (1 Viewer)

Our league does not allow waiver wire pickups in the offseason, but we're allowed to make trades. We have a 4 round rookie/free agent draft in the summer and then waiver wire pickups (on a 1st come /first serve basis) are allowed after the 4 round draft is completed. W.W. pickups are 1st come/1st serve during the reg season as well.

Is this normal? I don't understand the logic for the frozen w.w pickups in the offseason. Any thoughts as to why this ruling exists? The dyansty league has been in existence for 15+ years...I've only been in it for the last 7.

Maybe they want a break from immediately reacting to offseason news. Like all players on waivers untill Tues during the regular season.

I don't know what is normal. Maybe a poll covering as many options as possible would help.

Yep. Allowing WW pickups would lesten the usefulness of the draft - especially if you have a limitted roster size. In our dynasty league we carry 21 players during the year. A week prior to our draft (which is usually a week before the regular season starts) we cut down to 16 (2QB, 4RB, 6WR, 2TE & 2K - which is double our # of starters) - this makes for a very interesting draft, as you have all the rooks plus some interesting "free agents".

We do the same thing. We can trade non-stop in the offseason but the waiver wire is closed. This is done in our league since there is so little activity in the offseason in our league. I like it as if a player (free agent) skyrockets in the offseason he will be available at the draft, and not just gobbled up by whomever happens to be on the computer at that time.

:goodposting: same thing in my league

This is how my league is run for that exact reason.

I think many leagues are like this, although I prefer a league that allows waivers during the offseason. I think that makes the league more active year round. For those leagues that prefer a "break", I think this system works well.

Ditto here. While some of us would surely excel in a league where WW moves were allowed all offseason, some are not able or inclined to spend that much time on FF. A restriction on offseason WW moves enhances competitve balance.

What seems more fair to you:1)...a league with first come/first serve in the reg. season but does not allow offseason waiver wire pickups/roster cuts2) a league that gives weekly waiver pickups during the reg. season to the team with the worse record or least season points . Offseason: allows waiver pickups to occur on 1st come/1st serve but roster limits must be maintained (i.e. you must cut someone if you do a pickup)I think 2 seems much more fair for parity and competitive justice to me as not everyone has the ability to watch every game and make real-time waiver moves the instant a QB change takes place, a backup RB replaces an injured starting RB etc....waiver pickups are at least equal to if not greater value than rookie draft picks. Yet the rookie draft is the only method in my league that the rules are designed to help out the bad owners get a competitive advantage over the good ones.
