snorlax

Zzzzzzzzzzzz.
As a continuation of the work OZ (and Tick) did in his positional dynasty polls, I am going to run a series of polls on overall player rankings in a dynasty league. This will allow us to see both how people's values of the players have changed in the last couple of months and how people value the players relative to each other across positions. I am going to attempt to get as many of these done before the NFL Draft as possible because player values will fluctuate wildly at that point, and I may just let OZ take over with a new series of position polls at that point. (I am also doing this before the Draft because some of us have fantasy drafts starting that day.) In order to make this most applicable to everyone, let's assume a standard lineup and scoring rules.

Standard fbg scoring rules:

1 pt per 10 yards rushing/receiving

6 pts per rushing/receiving TD

1 pt per 20 yards passing

4 pts per passing TD

-1 per INT

3 pts per FG

1 pt per XP

Lineup:

1 QB

2 RB

3 WR

1 TE

1 RB/WR/TE flex

1 K

1 D

I started this poll by including the top ten players in the staff rankings plus the consensus top rookie. I don't expect these polls to mirror the staff rankings, and there should be some interesting discussion as a result, but I will add the next players to the poll from the staff rankings if necessary. I would prefer to add players only after they have gotten a couple of other votes in the previous poll. Some of these players probably won't get any votes for now, but I'm not going to temporarily remove them as OZ did because I don't think the clutter among the poll choices will be an issue for now. Anyway, on to the rankings.

1. RB LaDainian Tomlinson, SD

2. RB Larry Johnson, KC

3. RB Shaun Alexander, SEA

4. RB Clinton Portis, WAS

5. RB Steven Jackson, STL

6. RB Ronnie Brown, MIA

7. (Runoff) RB Cadillac Williams, TB

8. RB Reggie Bush, NCAA

9. (Runoff) RB Lamont Jordan, OAK

10. RB Willis McGahee, BUF

11. QB Peyton Manning, IND

12. (Runoff) RB DeAngelo Williams, NCAA

13. WR Larry Fitzgerald, ARI

14. RB Edgerrin James, ARI

15. WR Chad Johnson, CIN

16. RB Rudi Johnson, CIN

17. WR Steve Smith, CAR

18. (Runoff) RB Tiki Barber, NYG

19. (Runoff) RB Kevin Jones, DET

20. TE Antonio Gates, SD

21. WR Torry Holt, STL

22. (Tie) RB Deuce McAllister, NO

(Runoff) WR Randy Moss, OAK

24. (Tie) WR Anquan Boldin, ARI

(Runoff) QB Carson Palmer, CIN

(Runoff) RB Brian Westbrook, PHI

Who is the #27 player to have in a dynasty league? If you vote other please list the player. If you think someone else should be added next round let me know.

Went Lewis. Full offseason of workouts & we're talking about a multiple-time 1,000 yard rusher (and one time 2000 yard rusher) that's only about to turn 27.

Add in McNair in all likelihood and IMO a passing attack that'll be very solid in 2006, defenses won't be allowed to stack the line. Doesn't hurt he's playing for his final contract in all likelihood (whether Balt. keeps him or gets his $$ elsewhere).

went with reggie wayne - i'm confident what i'm going to get out of him for the next 4 years

Love Wayne, but not ahead of Owens. He is consistent, but he will keep losing chances as long as Harrison's around.

This is a toss up between Lewis and Benson. Both of which I consider better dynasty RBs than several guys already picked.
I'll let someone else take the risk on these guys. Both were huge dissapointments to fantasy owners last year. They might be the next two RBs off the board, but I'd rather have a WR I know will be top 5-15.

Owennnnnnnnssssssss

I happen to agree, but when I offered TO for Wayne "and just a little something" I was scoffed at. A lot of people will see the 5 year difference and additional risk with TO as offsetting the talent and probable production this year. I went with Shockey though. I can see the arguments for Wayne, TO, Benson and Lewis, but I will say that I wouldn't trade Shockey for any of them. He's been productive every year except 2003, due to injury, he's arguably the best receiver on his team, which happens to have one of the best young QBs in the league.

BTW - I realize we shouldn't take this into consideration, but if you pick at 1.01, would you be happy with LT, Palmer and Boldin as your top 3 picks, or would you want 2 RBs?

Other than Peyton, its way too early to pick any other QB. There are a number of them just as good as Palmer IMO and you can get them much later.I'm a Boldin fan. Have him ranked #2 for dynasty. Still, he's only on even par with a couple of the available RBs. With the flex position, I'd go RB. I dont think anybody cares much about the flex position in these polls though. If you want real opinions on the actual players, starting 3 RBs shouldnt be a part of the equation.

Yep. I didn't vote for Palmer either, if this were a draft I doubt he'd go this high.
